Kellen

It’s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but that’s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • I am new to this site and starting from the very first post and reading onward, so this is obviously an old issue for most. I just got my Moto Droid a few weeks ago, and I actually am returning it within the 30 days and preordered the Droid X. So regardless this is my first Droid phone and I will be part of the Droid family even when I get the new new phone, ha! Anyways, here is my first comment and boy did I have the issue with a battery drain. I still do actually. I got one of the Invisible Shields and they say to leave the phone off for 12-24 hours after applying it. My battery was at 100% when I turned it off, and about 20 hours later I turned it back on and it wouldn't turn on until I plugged it into the charger, when then I saw it wouldn't turn on cause the battery was dead. A dead battery when turned off?!? This is no good. I don't use many apps as of yet and don't think I do a lot of talking or things that REALLY use battery all that often. I have the battery time app and I sure don't get the numbers that the app lists I should as far as with talk-time, idle-time, etc. I will try this ATK app and see if that improves the situation. Verizon straight up just sent me a new battery saying they weren't sure what the problem was and it seemed strange that it would drain ENTIRELY by just being turned off. They thought it was the battery more than the phone, so we will see. But I'll read more about it in that forum post and see what the situation is. Although I guess it doesn't mean much since I'll be getting the Droid X soon. Thanks for your time. I would like to be able to favorite this article so I can come back to it. I wrote in on the contact page to make that suggestion. Hopefully it will be a possibility soon.

  • I have found since rooting my Droid that setting the clock speed really low (min/max 250mhz) during standby mode has really improved my battery life. I lose almost no power when in standby mode now. I use SetCPU which allows you to set different clock speed profiles for power on, standby, charging, etc. plus a failsafe profile for when the battery drops too low. I have my Droid clocked at min 250mhz – max1000mhz while in use (changes clock speed on demand between 250-1000), and the interface is really snappy.
