how to sync facebook contacts on your motorola droid

this is one of those questions we get quite a bit actually. “hey droid life! how the heck do we sync facebook with our contact list?!? only some of them will show up!” and obviously this is a good question as the facebook sync is pretty much the most wishy-washy thing on the planet. (did facebook forget about android? i’d say so.)

fortunately for us this process is pretty simple.  and here we go…

1. open up facebook and go into your “friends.”
2. find the friend that you want sync’d.
3. tap on their picture and choose the “contacts” icon.
4. tap your options button and select “edit contact.”
5. tap options button again and select “join.”
6. if the correct contact is not suggested, tap “show all contacts.”
7. choose the contact you want and select “done.”
8. bam, that’s it!

  • My Droid 2 completely updated its OS a couple of days ago, completey changing the social applications, the contact menu’s, everything.
    Now I have over 600 people in my darn contact menu??  wtf?
    I have not found a way to eliminate all of the facebook friends, google connections, etc.
    If anyone else had their android system upgrade like that, and has figure out how to seperate your regular contacts from your social contacts please tell me! 
    Waaaay to many contacts in my contact section.

  • I have found that most people I know with the new Bionic say that they don’t want all FB contacts synced into their phone. We only want to sync the original contacts we saved through gmail not the auto 500 person sync. In the original droid I was able to choose the option of only syncing contacts already in our contact list. That option is gone now. Suggestion?

  • As soon as you enter a new contact, who is also a facebook friend, the phone is supposed to automatically sync to facebook and google.
    If it doesnt, then that facebook icon is not available for that contact.
    Also, if I open my facebook app, go to that friend I want synced, and tap on ANY photo in the facebook app, it only opens that photo, it does not bring up a “join” option that I can find anywhere?

  • I tried this but still having a problem. When I tap on the picture nothing happens as you state. This seems to be happening with only my wife and my daughter. Other pictures that I tap on will open several icon options. Please advise and thanks for your help.
