For those of you screaming “I’ll believe it when I see it!” or “This ain’t actually happenin’!” please sit back down. As of late last night or early this morning, Verizon has also updated their upgrade installation page which now includes screen shots of the ESE53 notification screen. This is really happening people.
And as was pointed out during the 2.0.1 update, make sure you have a full battery at all times during the next few days to assure you receive the notification. Also makes sure you are not roaming and if possible, hang out in a wi-fi enabled spot. More details here.

Cant wait until diz update
No flash? WTH. Ugh. I didn't care about OTA 2.1 (rooted and DroidMod1.0), but wanted flash update. I can't believe how many sites I can't experience completely due to the Flash software.
over the air updates are not possible over wifi
http://www.dev.droid-life.com/wp-content/uploads/20… (Over the air updates not available when using wifi)
felt like the correction was necessary
Well that says “Verizon Wi-Fi” which I think is different than just enabling wi-fi on your phone…
I'll stay rooted until further notice..
This is more of a question for Keller or anyone who used the leaked update some weeks ago: Was it faster in anyway? I know some roms are pretty quick as far as navigating the multiple home screens and opening programs, etc.
It was as smooth as the stock 2.0.1 is. At first I thought it was faster, but whenever I revert back to stock 2.0.1 I realize how smooth it is as well.
Kellex,
You really need to come up with a chart or grid that outlines the differences between some of the popular roms and this new official 2.1 release. I'm having a hard time deciding what to do and I'm sure a lot of other people are as well. There seems to be a lot of speculation of what will be in the update vs what is real. Any way you can build a chart? I know many people would benefit from it.
Thanks,
I've got someone working on this actually.
Thanks Kellex for the quick reply. Looking forward to the update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm on the leaked ese53 right now, and I believe it's faster. Atleast the scrolling of web pages is, and also any scrolling on the phone is faster, no lag at all.
Once again, where's 2.1 for Droid Eris?!? It's a Droid too. Why can't we get the update on the same day? All we have is 1.5. (sigh). We'll probably never get 2.1. Verizon's gonna hold out on us. Again.
where did you see no update for Eris? Only thing I have read is that it WILL be out for Eris
I know. It's just taking so long to get the update and I've read about both sides of the argument. It's so confusing. I mean c'mon! We still have freaking 1.5! Sorry for my overreaction. 🙂
Didn't the Moto Droid and HTC Droid Eris come out on the same day? If you are that worried about having the latest Android OS, why didn't you just go with the Droid?
So it will update on it's own? Or can we go to system—> check for updates and do it manually?
You can do either. But doing it manually won't force it to download early. It's there if you deny the update at first but want to DL it later.
ok so my droid is rooted and i love it i have the 7 screens, live wallpaper, pinch to zoom, etc but my question is should i unroot for the ota i mean what is going the be the difference, idk sombody please help me so i can make the decision on what to do before 2morrow
I'm looking forward to the long awaited update but what has me really excited is the new custom ROMS that will be using the official ESE53 update. Its been less then 24hrs and I already miss my CyanogenMod. It was a little buggy but had a lot of advance features that I wish this update came with.
Is it confirmed that we must UNROOT to receive the OTA update? I'm running DroidMod 1.0…
With any OTA update you need to unroot and revert back to 2.0.1
That word “Mandatory” really scares me. It makes me think that they are making it necessary because they may have blocked some things like tethering capabilities using PDANet. I am a little skeptical about this update now. Anyone else? I'll wait till someone tests tethering with the update before I accept it on my phone. Kellex or someone please test tethering using PDANet once you get the update and contact me at computergeek8392@live.com thanks!!
That word bothered me as well, I went ahead and went back to stock, I figure more than likely I can go back. If not, oh well. I wouldn't want some sort of flag on my account. Paranoid? I know…..lol
Thanks for all the updates Kellex, tomorrow Droid owners will be checking their phone every minute til they receive that update notification. Cant wait.
can't wait! this is gonna be awesome!
Probably not the right place to ask….but flash? I'm assuming it's not with this update since it's not listed on the feature pages?
No flash is a bummer but I'm still pumped about this update.
[starts singing]
I want it all! I want it all! I want it all, and I want it now!!!
No flash
oh me oh my… I'm so freakin excited.. gimmie now! this is gonna be the longest day ever.
