Verizon Droid Site Gets Overhaul

The Motorola Droid site from Verizon is giving its best shot at becoming relevant.  After dropping a couple of new commercials, the actual site appears to have undergone a complete overhaul which now includes what they are calling the “Appsphere.”  Aside from the “Verizon” tab in the Android Market, this actually looks to be a pretty good spot to check out some of the latest and more polished apps.

Check out the new site here.

Kellen

It’s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but that’s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • I just wanna know when we're gonna get a better Meebo app. The one we have is atrocious. Logs off and force-closes too much.

    {{-_-}}

  • So Verizon finally decides to upgrade their Droid website…..Ha ha
That's why we have Droid life baby ur late. The Droid is a notebook in the palm of ur hand, but it's lacking in the movie department we need our own version of iTunes called Droid tunes movie music. …blah u know…holla.

  • Yeah if the facebook app could get done like the iphone it would be great. Like if you have new notifications it just shows up on the app as a number rep. The # of notifications you have verses with us now having to actually open the app all the way up and refresh notifications to see if you have any that's just way to much.

  • for the most part, I enjoy the apps offered in the market

but when, for the love of god, can we get a better facebook app?? 🙂

    • Tell me about it. I hate using the mobile Facebook.

Off topic though….Kellex, any chance for you to make a nandroid backup video, or any backup video for that matter? I just installed Cyanogen with the same JRummy skin you have but I wanna explore other things in the ROManager and I don't quite know how to backup everything so I don't have to reinstall all my apps again. Thanks bro.

      • you can back up ur rom on ROM manager by going to Backup Current Rom and pressing OK. If you wanna back up your apps, use ASTRO file manager. press the Menu (softkey)ToolsApplication Manager/Backup. then check off the apps you want backed up and VOILA! d;D

    • I'm still baffled at the fact that Facebook wouldn't be developing an app to rival the one on the iPhone.

  • Had my Moto Droid the first day it came out. Its still going STRONG. Moto Droid is going down in Verizon Hall of Fame.

  • It is nice to see VZW sticking by the Droid with all the marketing they are doing. I see the new Droid commercials pretty much every night on tv and there are 2 new Droid Billboards close to where I live so they definitely wouldn't be doing this if they planned to leave the Droid in the dust, especially with new android phones being close to release in their network (Incredible and N1). The Droid has been too successful of a phone for them to ignore and hopefully they stay aggressive with their marketing for it.

  • I agree. I use my itouch at the gym when facebooking, and it blows away the droid version completely.

  • Glad to see BigRed finally loyal to a device.

PS-FB App is in desperate need of a overhaul

  • I am glad to see verizon is showing some interest in the droid….but really that's it that's what we get huh….oooook :-/

  • A patient lost their Droid here at work. It keeps going off. *Droiidt, Droiiidt, Droiidt* lol Id be miserable if I lost mine. Anyway, yeah the site looks sweet! Keep it up Verizon! Iwould have really loved if those new commercials were pimping the 2.1 features like the Nueral network live wallpaper. People would go apeshit over that alone.

  • Maybe they should further categorize their “sphere”, maybe make a moon or something. Make a nice big sphere for Verizon users who can use apps, and a smaller moon for us Alltel/Verizon customers and we can use those apps.

…in reference to the recent NFL App debacle…

Sorry…I am not bitter or anything…

*****clicks on NFL app one more time to see if it will magically work*****

You know I would throw this phone against the wall if I didn't love it so much. ***sigh***

    • That's a great point that most people don't notice and I'm glad you said it. Verizon is dedicated to this device and it's pretty refreshing.

      • I had a debate with a friend that told me the “Droid will be obsolete by May, when the Incredible hits” …I disagree, because the amount of back that VZW has put into Droid. No one does this much [superb] marketing for a handset that they expect to be dead in 2 months.

        Kudos to VZW.

      • To me it's a little confusing as well. Why aren't they hyping up the Incredible? From what I've heard it's supposed to be better then the Droid (I'll believe it when I see it tho). So why push the Droid if the Incredible is supposed to be so good and if it is going to release soon? Only thing I can figure is they don't want sales to drop because people are waiting for the Incredible.
