Dear Verizon customers, you can stop holding out for the Nexus One. ย Google has officially axed it’s plans to launch it on Big Red, instead, pointing you to the Droid Incredible. ย Both the Google Phone page and the Nexus One blog have made this as clear as Kevin Durant over Oden.
Pretty much makes sense right?
Source: Google

This wasn't a surprise.. They would've launched it right away.. and I think Verizon is going to get the next gen iphone, so there would be some conflict…
Never really cared about this in the first place.. It's not as great as my all mighty Droid
Its good to see some updates up here kellex I was kind of going threw withdrawl over the weekend with no posts being made.
withdrawal for me too, but Kellex deserves it. I know how playoffs change you life schedule. Go Pens!
Well least we have the incredible guess we can't have all the fun
How would verizon sell a phone to casual users which has an inferior camera, touch screen and a less attractive UI. Smart move.
no surprise here…the HTC incredible is the same thing as the nexus one…except for sense ui and 8mp camera. I'd rather have the incredible
From what I heard…. The Incredible has better hardware, but a less durable casing. I believe that the N1 had aluminum casing. And the Incredible, as per the status quo of HTC, used plastic in its construction. I'll keep my tank, the Droid.
Besides… KEYBOARD!
Also though the multitouch is better, I'm not sure anyone can best the Droid's screen. It really is a magnificent piece of work. [It looks pretty]
PS: I've used and hated SenseUI… I don't know why… it just doesn't appeal to me
With all that was put into to advertise the N1 and have it flop, in my opinion, really hurt google. Its not really google, but HTC really stuck it to them. But then again google should have taken the time to investigate the phone before really getting into the market. I was waiting for the N1 for verizon and after hearing the problems and seeing them first hand, I would not take one if given to me. HTC is a good manufacture of phones but what happened? As for the Incredible, its based on the same hardware of the N1, no way! I got the M Droid and sticking to it and will wait to see what the new Droid (cross the fingers there is one) will bring. Motorola made a damn good solid phone.
Just got my Shipping notification last night that my Incredible has shipped! Yaaa!
So why the sudden change? The N1 has been out for T-Mobile since January and Verizon has always been listed on the page to get it.
It was definately a good thing for verizon not to take this phone, besides the fact that Incredible is just about to launch, having google to all tech support and Troubleshooting for the N1 is just a bad customer experience. I am an ex-tmobile CSR and i was working at tmobile when the N1 launched. it was awful. tmobile transferring to google, google not knowing what to do then transferring back. it was a joke. and because google still isnt prepared enough to handle this, it is better that Big Red didnt take it because they/we wont have to deal with a poor experience.
Im not a fan of Sense UI so that basically takes HTC phones off my radar for future upgrades. But then again the only phone on my radar for an upgrade is the Droid 2 lol So not getting the N1 isn't really a big deal, that and the Incredible is better if you can deal with Sense.
Who cares…. Thanks to this site I am now rooted, running Cyan 5.0.5.7 w/ JRummy Remix and overclocked @1000Mhz…. Thank you Kellex!
Makes sense, Incredible is basically just a better version of the N1 anyway.
I own a N1 and it is a piece of junk. Droid is a better phone and i im getting the incredible too. N1 needs serious work!!
Interesting. I only bought the Droid to tide me over until the N1 hit Verizon. I've come to love the Droid though and this news just about seals it for me. But your comment is making me feel even better – why do you dislike the N1 as compared to the Droid?
…or not.
No biggie.Incredible > N1. Kellex, question, can u plz point me in the right direction for me to be rooted? Running stock right now. Really all I want is overclocking. Thx.

Step 2: http://www.dev.droid-life.com/2010/04/20/video-inst…
Good man! ๐ Hope I don't screw things up. Thx.
xFenixKnightx, let us know how it went for you. I also want to root only for the overclocking but I'm still on the fence about it. I realize that for liability purposes there needs to be that warning “do this at your own risk” but the part about “extremely risky” keeps me from jumping the fence just yet. I WANT to overlock but to be honest none of the apps I'm running right now NEED me to be overclocked (except perhaps Google Earth?). Keep us updated Knight.
ps: Also, if 2.2 is really coming in may as some of the rumors are stating than I'll wait for the update before I think about rooting.
Root. After you do you'll say to yourself, “that was it? what the heck was I worried about?” It's very easy to flash it back to stock too if you need to return it. I did it. You just have to know how to do a Google search & how to read.
It's just some ppl can't follow directions so the ppl who write the directions have to put a disclaimer because there are some dumb ppl who would assume it's that person's fault.
Thanks a million! A ROOTING I WILL GO!!!!! That was the nudge I needed.
quick question. When I try to install the drivers it says that it couldn't install because my system has newer drivers. Is this cool or do I need to use the older drivers that the instructions ask me to get?
Yeah I never understood why Verizon would even bother with N1 when they are releasing the Incredible. Sounds foolish to have one both, since one was essentially more superior.
Makes complete sense to me and I was wondering why Big Red would bother with the N1. Seems to me that the Incredible is a slightly superior phone. I am curios though on how this will affect their relationship with Google. Any thoughts???
i read somewhere that HTC might be developing their own OS…we'll see how it goes
I seriously hope not. The last thing we need is another mobile OS.
It said “For now though, HTC's CFO explains that they “continue to assess” whether or not to turn to their own operating system and have a “few conditions to justify” before making such a move.”
the article is like 2 weeks old, at the rate mobile news is going, it may just be OLD news ;p
http://gizmodo.com/5516571/htc-contemplates-wri…
I think when he said that it was the price tag on Palm and their already developed OS that was being assessed.
too bad they're out of the running to buy it anyway and to 2nd what kellex said, we sure as hell don't need another mobile OS.
I hope not. Do we really need another OS with another App store? The developers would have a heck of a time deciding which OS to develop for…
“made this as clear as Kevin Durant over Oden” LOL~! i agree Durant=BEAST~!!!!
So if you want Android on BigRed but don't want Sense UI, your only option is the Moto Droid?
If you want a 2.1 phone, yes.
Other option is moto Devour. same basic design as the droid but it is running the Motoblur software. Motoblur has its ups and down but if you are a huge social networking person it can be really nice, but you to sacrifice so much awesome hardware if you go with it. Droid is really a much better phone and with the root options makes it so much nicer.
Hope Kellex does for the “Incredible” what he has done for the “Droid”.
I'm glad we have Kellex to help us turn our Droid into a Nexus One! Nexus One boot animation, overclocking, etc…we're already there ๐
isn't the HTC Incredible essentially the NexusOne anyway?
so what's the big deal.
I guess Verizon can't have every good phone out there. Well good morning Kellex how do you do? ๐
