Kellen

It’s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but that’s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • Anyone notice that FroYo has mitigated the need for this app? Dimming the 2.2 DeskClock (with a single tap) turns off the LED's (not sure if it turns off the top LED; I hope it doesn't).

Additionally, I notice that SuperUser is constantly granting LEDs Hack access even if “Persistent” is turned off. That means LEDs Hack is frequently active and probably chewing your battery down. It may be time for this app to go.

  • Kellex, i know you've probably been asked this before. but since rooting my droid (done SPrecovery flash by your video, which is awesome fyi) my Top LED notification no longer works. If i get a message it no longer flashes for me as it did pre-root. does this app fix that problem or is there a setting i have overlooked?

thanks for the amazing videos by the way, they're a huge help!

  • I LOVE this app. I use my Droid as my bedside alarm clock and this shuts down the BRIGHT led lights so that I can sleep peacefully. I've had this for a few months now and I cannot live (or sleep) without it.

  • Also worth pointing out: since a recent update, LEDs Hack also offers a Locale plug-in that offers more granular control over the state of the LEDs. Awesome!

However, I have had troubles getting this to work properly – i.e., LEDs being off when they're not supposed to and not coming back on. I've tried messing with all the settings (including auto-start/stop settings).

I know I should simply contact the developer, but before I do – has anyone else seen these types of issues/fixed them??

  • i turned off leds using this app, and not i can't turn it back on..
i have no led notification at all now.. text, email, missed call.. nothing….
does anyone know how to solve this problem??
    need help!!!

  • I found this app a couple of days ago and was thrilled with the ability to disable the bottom row of LEDs while docked. It greatly reduces the luminance of the device at night. I have found that the LEDs Hack does not always re-enable the LEDs on dock removal (when using the auto settings). To get around this I generally have toexplicitly turn them off again (even though they are already off) and then turn them on.

  • Most of the newer ROMS use the newer clock while in the dock. Is there any way to prevent it from going to the green numbers nighttime/screensaver version after a couple of minutes? I want it to stay in the daytime version with weather and shortcut buttons during the day when I am using it at my desk, then be able to turn it to the green numerals at night by my bed..

  • This is something I've been hoping for since the first time I tried to use my droid as a nightstand alarm clock! I'm one of those people who can't have any type of light glowing anywhere in my field of vision during the night or else it will wake me up.

And for anybody else like me, they know those LED's at the bottom are SUPER bright… especially if it's only a couple feet away from your face on your nightstand!

  • Sometimes great things come in small packages. The LED was really annoying at night. Thanks for the heads-up.
Another topic…Got my Livespeaker and it works well. Not a BOSE, but it will do when I am working on my motorcycle in the garage and in the bathroom when I am showering the grease off.
BTW – Can the TB's win two? Last night was pretty sad. Hope Roy's knee is OK…

    • yeah there is your a few weeks late bro. just click on the root tab at the top of the site and follow the videos its simple. if you need help just ask somebody will help

  • Hey Kellex, think you could find an app (or have a contest for somebody to make one :-)? *hint hint*) that would reverse the volume control when its in the dock (or maybe when the phone is horizontal)? The current setup suuuuuucks. (volume up = left? volume up = right? fail.)

  • This is great news. I had a Beatles skin covering the touch buttons from the day I got my Droid until about a week ago. It got messed up and I had to take it off, exposing those horrible lights when I dock at night. Now, lights out!

  • I'd love it if I still had a use for this app…but my dog destroyed my OEM dock. Not cool!

  • I know this if off topic but maybe someone has an answer or has been experiencing this also. Been noticing some lag on the home-screens when loading after pressing the home button after browsing net or using apps. Wondering if there is a fix or what is going on. I am rooted running 5.0.6.2. overclocked lv. 5 slot bekit kernel 1gh running at 800, 550 (charging, sleep, and fail-safe at 40c). Any ideas, really annoying!

    • Its a Helix Launcher2 problem. Try switching back to the Helix1 unless you can't live without the 3d app tray.

    • If you set the launcher or helix for home you will get this lag..I use the regular home on 5.0.6.2 bedcuase the launcher was lagging on almost every home buttom press I tried removing widgets and that did not helpp so if u want smooth set home as ur deefault.

  • Kellex, you may want to clarify that these are the Notification LED, and Touch-Sensative LED backlit buttons on the Droid. I was very confused why anyone would need to 'disable' the 2 rear ultra-bright LEDs (camera flash) with this app. It wasn't until I read the app's description that I understood. Thanks for staying on the forefront of all these apps for us. Much appreciated.

    • that makes no sense why would someone wont to disable the camera flash and if they did want to all they have to do is do it under camera settings. It spells it out in the description and if you dont understand then its probably not an issue for you because you dont have a docking station.

  • You rooters get all the cool toys >:(

Maybe I should give in to my anger and join the dark side someday?!?!
