Kellen

It’s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but that’s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • Kellex,

Since I have not seen any posted comments here yet, I just want to point out the recent problem that some apps in the Android Market are having with Froyo 2.2. They seem to disappear from the Market or do not get reinstalled from Google.
It happened to me with a few paid apps such as (HiFi Recording, Documents to go, etc.) and some free ones i.e. (LiveBible)
    See the following article:

  • seriously. This has been a really frustrating issue. we should also be able to sort better and exclude things like soundboards in the search

  • Will I need to re-activate my droid after I install Froyo via ROM manager?

I ask because right now I am stuck at the activate screen on my droid. I just installed the 2.1 with root access and did not realize I would need to activate my phone again until it was too late.

Activating is a problem since I live in Alaska. Verizon uses ACS networks and towers up here. At one point verizon mailed me a new droid after my screen went goofy. Since the phone was not activated, I had to mail it to a store in Seattle to activate.

Any chance I can pay you guys to take my phone to froyo?

If I mail my phone to a friend in the lower 48 they could activate it for me, but they wouldn't have the know how to take it from where it is now to Froyo. And I wouldn't want to have to mail it down again if I need to activate it again after installing Froyo via ROM manager.

Thanks for all the info and everything on the site,

    Steve

    • YES YOU WILL HAVE TO REACTIVATE IT SO I SUGGEST THAT YOU DONT DO IT IF YOUR GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS .

  • wireless tether works on Droid just search market for wireless tether and download “wireless tether” app. free and works well. watch you tube video

  • For those still having problems with market, update to the 1.3 version of Team Chaos' simple black theme, the market is fixed!

  • I'm having issues with gallery, anyone? 2.2 froyo 1.25GHz v32 kernel.

  • Is verizon release froyo going to be better? Will we be able to root it?

    • YOU WONT BE ABLE TO ROOT IT JUST YET UNTIL DEVS MAKE A ROOT FOR IT . YOU MIGHT AS WELL DOWNLOAD THE FROYO LEAK IF YOUR ALREADY ROOTED

  • Any idea when us regular no-rooted droidsters will be getting the 2.2 update?

    • IT WAS SUPPOST TO BE THIS MONTH JUNE , BUT I THINK ITS GOING TO BE PUSHED BACK BUT BY THE LOOKS OF IT , ITS GOING GREAT ND SHOULD BE OUT SOON

  • Is there any word on when us regular non-rooted folks will be able to get the 2.2 update?

  • ever since i updated to froyo i couldnt download any apps from the market..it just says starting download…but never starts…what did i do wrong, i am running the leaked version of 2.2 that u posted, the 1100mgz kernal and the team choas black them

    • FOR SOME REASON THE BLACK THEME FROM TEAM CHAOS IS NOT WORKING FOR THE MARKET , DOWNLOAD ANOTHER THEME

  • Since updating to Froyo last night several of my apps aren't around anymore (and when I look for them on the market they don't show up).

I mentioned this to one of the app devs and he grumbled about people installing 2.2 before it was actually supported which makes me think I'm not the only one (and folks have mentioned similar issues here).

Anyone figure out a way to fix this? Is there something in the apps that keeps them from showing up in the 2.2 market? I tried clearing the cache/data for the market app but to no avail 🙁

    • Noticed the same thing. I understand their frustration, but it's coming. So what happens when real Froyo drops this weekend? Then what do the devs do?

  • anyone having problems with the app market……did the new froyo build, and im not able to download apps im rolling with the 1.3 black theme…..any suggestions… will try to backup previous version

  • Is anyone else having a problem with market not downloading or updating things?

  • I cant download anything from the market since putting 2.2 on…..any suggestions?

  • Market isn't working for me on the froyo build from yesterday. It worked on and off yesterday but not today at all.

  • I'd like to suggest an app! lol. I'm in no way affiliated with the dev but I have yet to see it mentioned here on droid-life. Its called LEDs Hack. Sorry root users only, but what this little app does is give you a little more control over LEDs of your droid. Personally i have it set to turn the bottom LEDs off when i have my phone in the moto dock. always bugged me that those stayed on. works on the stock froyo, but had issues with it on BB and Cyanogen. worth looking into …

    • it's a must have if you don't want your notification lights flashing all night while docked at your bed side

      • I agree. First thing I noticed that night when I plugged it into the dock was it when dimmer than usual with an entirely different looking clock. Love it.

    • Exactly … Thats one of the few things i hated about using the droid as my alarm clock! since i was running BB and Cyanogen for the longest time i couldnt run this app properly. now on “stock” froyo i'm back in control. i wish Pete or Koush could some how put this feature into their roms … HINT HINT

    • First of all that app has appeared on droid-life in the past, I picked it up here, and second, with stock froyo, it is no longer necessary. If you just press the brightness button on the dock screen the bottom LEDs turn off. Gotta love froyo

      • You are correct just press the brightness button on the dock and it is turned off.

  • Anybody having problems with Froyo restarting the phone periodically. If so anybody figured out a fix

    • mine actually did that with stock 2.1 for some reason…hasn't happened at all with froyo

  • can anyone recommend a must have app? im rooted and running the new FRF57 with new baseband.i have astro, rom manager, set cpu.just wondering if im missing out on anything.

  • The Froyo ROM is great. I've had a few minor problems with no complaints, but what got me a little frustrated was that some of my apps weren't working anymore and I just re-installed BB 1.1. Other than that, its great and everybody should try it out its really fast.

  • No wifi tether for the latest froyo leak included. Isn't that something that should be in the official update? Other than that I love it.

    • Since the latest leak of Froyo is an actual test build it was probably takin out. We are pretty sure VZW will not include wifi tether in the Froyo update. If they do it would most likely come with an additional monthly fee.

  • A question on Market:
If I install an app and uninstall it, in Downloads are it still sits as “Free” and does not go away from Downloads page. Does any one know how to get rid of it? Thx

      • tried that multiple times did not work i am attempting to un-theme now since it worked fine until i did that

      • K, that solved it. Thanks. One more Q: Maps is installed on my Droid but when I goto Downloads it shows as Free and allows me to Install. When I do that, I get an error “Package file was not signed correctly”

I can use Maps without any issues (version 4.2.0 #4209). Not sure what is going on

        Thanks for the help

  • Does anyone else's market not show all of their installed apps in the download list anymore (on Froyo)?

    • The improvements to it are minor, but they make the overall experience so much greater than the flashy updates we saw in 2.1.

      • Froyo is by far the most significant update. I can't believe I waited as long as I did to load the leaked ROM. What a waste of life those few days I went without it.

      • Faster performance in apps and browser + flash is what I want. Maybe I'll be able to run lwp smoothly with the speed boost.

    • unfortunately, I had to flash back to BB V10. – my phone kept rebooting every 10 mins…. :[
