Adobe Still Supporting DROID While System Requirements Say No

While the Flash 10.1 player requirements still say that the original Droid is well under what is expected for a device to be supported, Adobe continues to stand behind one of the first ever “Flash ready” smartphones.  Can’t say that we blame them either, especially after seeing the outrage which ensued following reports hinting towards discontinued future updates for the D1.

And seriously though, give Adobe a little more credit than that.  Why would they talk Flash for a device from its birth, only to abandon it weeks after it finally received it?  There are roughly 2.5 million D1’s running in the wild and you should expect them to be Flash-enabled for the foreseeable future.  At least we hope so anyway.

Requirements can always be taken as guidelines, and who knows, maybe Adobe is simply covering bases so that we can avoid rioting Devour users crying for embedded Youtube support.  Can you imagine that scene?

Kellen

It’s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but that’s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • I personally called Motorola and specifically asked them when the new Froyo OS was going to be available for the Droid X? They said at the end of summer. I said can you give me an approximate date?,they said no we weren't able to give an approximate date that all we can say is it will be at the end of summer. Then I asked with a laugh, “what day does summer end for Motorola”? Is it really this hard with the advanced technology we have today? I'm just asking.

  • Truly happy to hear that Adobe is not abandoning Flash for the D1. How about those of us who have spent our hard earned money on the DROID X? I've heard so many different claims of dates for when the 2.2 update (which would include Flash) will finally be available, that I don't know who or what to believe anymore. I know this discussion has gone on ad nauseum, but I'd like to think that I just invested in a good phone. Can someone offer any sort of reassurance? Or is Motorola about to pull a Microsoft on us? Please let me know if this is the case – if so I can just go ahead and learn how to 'root' mine as well. meanwhile, I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

  • I've been watching various videos on my Droid with flash, and the main problem is not all of them are optimized for a mobile phone. So flash isn't really the problem, it's just not as good as flash via the internet

  • Crazyness.. 2.2 froyo for droid-x cant come any faster..!! come on verizon and update us any day now please. So my advice to people out there… whosever not on the 2.2 froyo list for any update… dump your phone and move on if your really wanting this update 😉

  • After the last article that said d1 would fly I searched the top ten flash sites and all but HBO said I view it. Why does HBO not let me view the site on my phone? Is it because of *obs?

  • Why Do You Capitalize Every Word In Your Post Despite None Of The Words Being Proper Nouns Or The Start Of A New Sentence? It Is Very Obnoxious To Read.

  • I did the craziest thing today. I went out and got a Epic 4G. I had a Droid and loved it, but now I am on my own plan and with a cool phone. The one thing I am going to miss is all you cool people. Love you all.

  • Root users are safe from this, being able to overclock and have flash run smooth. I'm overclocked with slayhers low voltage 1.25ghz kernel.

  • If Adobe Were To Discontinue Making Updates For The D1 (I Own) Wouldn't One Of Our 3rd Party Developers Create An Update For It? Also The “Flash Ready” Device I Could See Happening In The Near Distant Future, While These Phones Up Top Here Except For The D2, Either Download From Android Market Or Included With Android 2.2 Update. I Wouldn't Make A Huge Fuss Over It Yet. It's Still In The Early Phases Of Releasing It For Our Droid Family Members, I'm Thankful It Finally Is Able To Be Downloaded And Installed Now.

  • When I got flash on my D1 I was really excited to finally be able to play flash games on my phone, so I did for about half an hour and it drained about 40% of my battery 😛 . So I think the Droid at least has a difficult time supporting it.

    • I Know With Constant Use Of Any App Or Program My Phone Becomes Warm And The Battery Will Drop At An Increased Rate, But Can You Really Blame It With Constant Use…? (Kosher Thought)

  • Kellex, why is the Incredible not on that list? I know with the official Froyo update on the Incredible it comes preinstalled with Flash, but it's not the latest version and Flash cannot be downloaded from the market on the INcreidlb.e
