Kellen

Itโ€™s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but thatโ€™s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • I honestly believe they are purposely not releasing enough devices to meet demand just to build hype. Sort of like Nintendo did with the Wii…… Generally, we tend to want things more if they are hard to come by. This is just my theory, though

  • Droid X has finally got its Froyo update a few days ago, but it didnโ€™t come without problems. For some users, everything is fine, while others experience all sorts of issues. One of the issue is related to an audio bug.

  • I suppose I’ve bricked my phone for the first time trying to save it. I am stuck in the bootloader after trying to apply the sbf file using RSD Lite. It failed, multiple times.

  • I rooted exactly how i did last time with sdk and at the very end it says unable to root.I cant boot into recovery or anything! at least my phone still works but i need superuser access to restore.

  • I cant boot into recovery or anything! at least my phone still works but i need superuser access to restore. any help would be appreciated.

  • I rooted exactly how i did last time with sdk and at the very end it says unable to root. i cant boot into recovery or anything!

  • Well Good luck getting rid of it, Moto! There aren't enough C&Ds in the world to stop us now! Ha Ha(I think I get too caught up in this) thanks this is great information

  • I hate to be that guy…but gotta remind everyone to scan downloaded files. A “trojan” was piggybacked in my download. I blame motorola for trying to sabotage us. It's inevitable moto…we'll ALWAYS find a way!

  • Kellex! i installed the SBF file last night and it said a 100% but was all the way done and my usb came out!!! after rebooting it stripped superuser from my phone i didn't have blackglass no theme nothing! i still have everything as far as apps & files on my x except superuser and it says i need to root… i rooted exactly how i did last time with sdk and at the very end it says unable to root. i cant boot into recovery or anything! at least my phone still works but i need superuser access to restore. any help would be appreciated. after work today im going to try and root agin or maybe try different methods… would it be possible to wipe everything off the phone and try from scratch.

  • I downloaded from multiple sites and they have different file size. 434MB, 245MB(ZIP) and I read somewhere that its supposed to be 455MB. How can I tell its the real file.

  • As we speak, this one file is being scattered across hundreds of different file hosting sites as well as torrents by thousands of people (including me ^_^).

Good luck getting rid of it, Moto! There aren't enough C&Ds in the world to stop us now! Ha Ha

(I think I get too caught up in this)

  • Funny, downloaded the SBF quicker on my Droid X than my laptop at work. I was averaging 1.3kb per sec at my desk. Finished the download using Big Red's network in 20 minutes.

  • So, if I'm on the leaked version – (2.3.9.MB810), I can load this SBF file and get up to date with that last OTA update that I can't get because I jumped on the leak early? Just checking. Sounds a lot easier than going back to the 2.1 then upgrading from there.

  • Now this SBF takes you to 2.2 OTA Release?? Cause if it does, there's no easy way to root the phone right? I still use the 2.1 sbf, cause I NEVER downloaded that 2.2 OTA. I'm using 989 rom froyo 2.2 deodexed … so if I have or ever have problems I still can actully use the 2.1 SBF and re-root… but using this SBF, how would you get root back? Besides Using the SDK/Tools? Windows 7 64bit doesn't seem to like SDK/Tools for rooting, doesn't ever list my device no matter what I have done.

    • I should say, there's not real easy way (one button root) right now for this SBF/froyo 2.3.15 right?

        • thanks i had tried it before and it never worked then decided to wait but finally tried again and it was easy

        • Thanks Kellex… I'll have to play with this a bit then. Where I'd come into problems was when I'd type “adb devices” it wouldn't show that my device was there, even though I had it connected. I'm guessing this solves the issue? I read in XDA forums many people having the same problem. I could be behind, I've been rooted since early August now. Still love being able to play with my phone and test stuff with the security of a SBF and knowing I can Root :).

          • No reason Win 7 64bit shouldn't work with SDK. I've been rooting devices using 64bit Win 7 following the same instructions posted by Kellex with no troubles at all.

One thing to check tho is to make sure you see the debug mode icon in your notification bar before trying to do adb devices. If it does not display change the USB mode to charge only and then it should pop up and adb devices should see it.

          • I rooted using a 1-click from the XDA forums on Win7 x64. The thing you need to do is- and do this in order, plug in your phone in PC mode with debugging OFF. Safely remove and then plug back in with debugging on. For some reason, ADB drivers aren't initialized properly if you go for it all at once.

I also, prior to rooting, installed the latest moto driver package. At the end of the day, it's as much black magic as a “proper” sequence, but you should be fine if you follow the forums and do a little searching.

        • Forgive me for not reading the rules on the dozens of different websites that I read on a daily basis. It's almost like I don't have the time to do that or something?

          • Not rules on the website, dude, it SAYS IT IN THE POST.

It's not even a TL;DR situation as it is a really short post.

          • As these are not links, they should be fine (if not, I guess you better create some more rules!):MyDroidWorldRootzwiki

            There, how’s that?

          • This is the one time I wish I was a moderator. Chill Hank!

Even a dumbass like me found it without your help. Just for fun/irony I even used Bing… ๐Ÿ˜›

          • Congrats! However, multiple people have asked where to find it or said they were unable to find it. I’m not responsible for other people’s inability to search the internet, but I am glad to help them out with something so simple.

  • Come on Kellex! You're letting a little thing like a Moto C&D order stop you from putting up the links? What kind of hacker are you! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • a smart one too..

I wonder if Moto will try and track down the guy that leaked the file.. On XDA the leaker pretty much gave everyone a minute to minute update as to when he was going to upload, etc. Kinda careless if u as me.
