Tim

Stumbling upon Droid Life randomly after purchasing a Motorola DROID in late 2009, then setting out to learn everything he could about Android, Tim quickly became an integral part of the site's comment section. After quite some time of strictly commenting on Droid Life, Tim was offered an opportunity to write feature stories for the site, such as custom ROM overviews, as well as interviews with Android community members. Following success of those, Tim became a full time writer and editor for Droid Life, now spending his time on news articles, device reviews, producing videos, and much more. Tim currently resides in Portland, OR with his longtime girlfriend and two wonderful dog children (Loki & Thor). In his spare time, Tim enjoys playing guitar, drinking coffee, practicing photography, and destroying kids on Call of Duty.

  • I think you folks need to do a write up telling people to chill out and if they are getting a new phone to wait on the nexus. Most importantly make it more obvious that all the release dates we have seen have not been official. I am so sick and tired of seeing “OK VERIZON AND SAMSUNG IM TIRED OF BEING PUSHED AROUND AND LIED TO I HAVE WAITED TO LONG FOR THE NEXUS, NOW BUYING PHONE “X” NOW SINCE YOU COULDN’T KEEP YOUR WORD”

So fuc**ng sick of reading posts and comments like that. If i can keep my og alive long enough to get he gnex you can wait to, She’s fading fast like many others with the ogdroid.

  • The nexus is one of the thinnest phones. The RAZR is thinner but that shouldnt be a deal breaker. The Nexus has a bigger screen and NFC and a removable battery. Which i find more useful than a removable SD card. Which the nexus doesnt have. I REALLY want a removable SD. but i dont actually remove it that often. Nexus is better because it comes with 4.0 and Motorola software sucks. I have the droid x2 and i have 41 downloaded apps. The phone turns itself off EVERYDAY. it runs out of RAM and crashes. When it turns back on, its fine. This is my 2nd x2 and my mom also has the x2. They all have the same problem. The RAZR has 1GB of RAM but im not sure if that will help. Maybe the phone will turn off every three days instead of every day. BIG improvement. ALLOT of motorola devices restart. The droid 3 does too. allot of others too. i hate motorola

  • Anybody seen the face unlock tried with the wrong person’s face? Wonder if it can be easily fooled.

  • This phone has the Bionic delay crap written all over it…..stuff like this just pisses people off….

  • I have a very stupid question…what exactly is a “pure google experience”? I’ve had a OG Droid and currently have a Droid X, I’ve played with the Rezound, Razr and numerous other android phones, but I am waiting on the Nexus. Why? Because of the “no bloatware” selling point (which I like), and the pure google experience. The point is, do I even want to have a pure google experience? What makes it so much better than the other phones? ICS will be nice, but soon almost every other phone will have it, so that’s a wash.

    • It means it wont have HTC Sense, Moto Blur, or TouchWiz on it.  It will be pure unaltered Android

    • Your OG Droid was pure Google – no manufacturer modifications to the OS, it’s pure Android as Google made it.

    • Vanilla on GB and on the droid were boring. Lets see what ICS brings to the tablet. I am loving my razor more and more. The software is so nice and fast.

    • Pure google experience means NO bloatware. Google gives Companies almost full control of the android software. Notice how Samsung phones and Motorola and HTC and LG phones all look different. That is because all of the companies put “improvements” in the software. They try to make it look better and easier to use. But i think they all suck. ALL of the companies make the phone a little slower than its suppose to be because of all of the software that they “improve”. The Nexus phones are all from google. and Samsung DOES NOT put any “software improvements” on the phone. It will be VERY fast. Probably the fastest in the world because it Pure google. The nexus software comes straight from google.

  • The people who I worry about stealing my phone aren’t the same people who have a big, clear photo of my face.

    • I wonder if they could plug the phone into the computer and pull a photo from your camera roll (or if your phone has an sd card, pop it out and unlock the phone with one of the pictures on it).  I never tested if you have to unlock your phone to enable usb mode.

  • Is this final release hardware and software? The only reservation I have is battery life fingers crossed its not as bad as early reports suggest.

    • All 4G battery life is abysmal. The radios are just not there yet. Hopefully it won’t have the data drops the Razr is having.

  • VZW Just Tweeted a poll on what assistance poeple are looking for from them? 51% Said device ability was what they are looking for. I put in the release date of the Nexus. The site is twtpoll.com/8fxocg maybe if we all push they might let it slip just sayin

  • kellex I can see that you are enjoying these teases that you are throwing at us,,,I bet you know the release date to this baby but just want to mess with our minds with all these nonsense. I think its time you come up front with the release date..I am feeling the 21st of this month, but…… hmmm

  • people need to stop showing that the face unlock works with a picture…. so people that arnt techies don’t get word of this haha

  • I don’t know why I even care about all this Galaxy Nexus news. It’s just a tease. I don’t have an upgrade till March.

    • Mines is in February, but I bet Verizon will let me upgrade for the $300 bucks they are getting!!! lol

  • Soooo the face unlock feature isn’t that safe if the person knows your name or who you are… facebook profile pictures can just unlock your phone haha

    • I feel like it’ll be cool to show off, not too practical though. I feel as if the battery will take a big hit if you unlock your phone as much as I do.

    • The only hope of getting one soon would be if you were on AT&T or T-Mobile. Because you could buy one overseas and activate it on AT&T.  I am certain there will be those who do just that.

Which means that they actually got the phone before we had a chance to on Verizon.  Verizon subscribers could end up being the last in the world to get it.

      It’s a bit embarrassing actually.

  • I enjoyed the speed at which it worked after seeing it not work at the HKG announcement.

Also funny to see how easily a pic was used.  I do wonder if it must be such a portrait shot to work though.  Will something hanging out at the beach with clutter in the pic work?

  • Just an FYI

Kellex does NOT write every post on this blog!Take this article for instance, the awesome Tim-o-tato wrote it.

  • kellex I get a sense that you’re giddy about something and you’re inching us more and more closer to the date lof release. lol

C’mon man just tell us I know you’re sitting on the date, building up the excitement, are you?? 🙂

  • damn the EU for getting such sweet phones while America will tolerate a bunch of shit phones and then call it awesome… Get a clue people… We get junk and other countries send us junk because we will pay high dollar for it…

    • Most thieves want a quick score, don’t know who you are, and just want to get a few bucks for the phone or maybe use it… And likely have no idea who you are or what you look like. They’re probably not masterminds trying to get that last $20 out of your bank account before you blow it on a 40oz and a DVD out of the 7-11 “Specials” rack. Your buddies, on the other hand, will want to get into your phone to either send dirty texts to your girl or homescreen a picture of their arse on your phone. They do know what you look like and probably have pics of you….
