Stumbling upon Droid Life randomly after purchasing a Motorola DROID in late 2009, then setting out to learn everything he could about Android, Tim quickly became an integral part of the site's comment section. After quite some time of strictly commenting on Droid Life, Tim was offered an opportunity to write feature stories for the site, such as custom ROM overviews, as well as interviews with Android community members. Following success of those, Tim became a full time writer and editor for Droid Life, now spending his time on news articles, device reviews, producing videos, and much more. Tim currently resides in Portland, OR with his longtime girlfriend and two wonderful dog children (Loki & Thor). In his spare time, Tim enjoys playing guitar, drinking coffee, practicing photography, and destroying kids on Call of Duty.

  • I have it installed on my G2, the install is really not very difficult and the 4.4.2 build is working really well. I’m frustrated waiting & waiting & waiting for Verizon with no further updates on potential availability.

  • The current leak is great, unable to find any bugs.

pros – device feels 10 times faster/smoother like glass.
    stable as fawk.
    battery life improved tremendously.

    • If you’re looking at getting one off contract check out swappa you can find some pretty reasonable priced G2s.

        • I just bought one for 310 and saw a different one sell for 275. I’m rocking the GNex also, I upgraded to 4.4 on my droid and can’t root it and I use foxfi for my home internet so I had to go back to it. How is you’re GNex holding up? I can honestly barely text on mine it’s so slow.

          • Texting is perfectly fine. The 4.4.2 FML OmniRom is fast and stable. I’ve got the Zerolemon battery, which keeps me going throughout the day. 310 isn’t bad at all. I love the KnockON feature lol

    • Gnex on unlim?

Get G2 when on sale free on contract.
      open a NEW line,
get G2, pop you gnex sim in it.
wait 14 days, call vzw tell them to ESAD – Cancel that line.
Profit. unlim + good deal on a top tier device.

    • FWIW, At this point, I’d wait – at least for an announcement so you’ll know how long you’d have to wait.

  • The G2 is great, no reason to complain about not having kit Kat yet, you get used to the waiting having vzw

  • I’m running this software. I can’t find anything broken on this, if you follow the proccess as laid out in the forums, it works great. No issues so far. You retain root as well. There are people myself included looking into custom recovery and kernel flashing using the loki exploit.

  • I’m thinking of trading my Moto X for this. Primarily, because I need more battery life. Any issues with the G2? (I know slow updates, but it will be rom’ed)

    • if you have hangouts open in a thread, lock the screen, get a message and turn the screen back on, before swiping away the lockscreen the notification goes away. Annoys the hell out of me but its minor. But if you want battery life, look no further.

    • After being with my dev edition Moto X for the past 5 months, I’m going back to the G2. Should be arriving in the next couple days. It was just an all around great device. The battery life was superb. Gorgeous screen. Way better camera. Definitely won’t see fast updates like Moto whips out but that really doesn’t matter since the G2 is a beast.

    • Only issue i have is the prox sensor can get funky in certain light. Kk fixes tbe issue….but its not released yet.

Phone will be on then go dark when you try and unlock it. Turning off knock on seems to help.

      • +1 I had to return my first G2 the day after I bought it because of this. I could not keep the screen on when I was in a dark room. it would turn on then turn right off. My replacement has been perfect.

    • It is an incredible phone. Great screen, fast, and absolutely fantastic battery life. Anxiously awaiting the formal announcement of the LG G3 – high expectations!

      • Great phone, but I agree external packaging is nothing special. Screen rez, small bezels, Snapdragon 800 w/ 2GB ram, 13MP cam make it a monster piece of phone hardware.

    • Too bad it’s still better than any htc phone. The g2 is overall better than the m8, but the g3 is going to blow it out of the water.

      • Best phone on VZW right now is the M8, and I do like the G2 but come on, let’s not let your HTC bashing blind you.

        • I got the G2 on the M8’s launch date. I like the M8’s build, but the camera killed it for me. G2 for $0 @ Best Buy did not hurt either.

  • Well that’s nice! Considering the official release seems to still be a ways away. This is small interaction I had earlier this morning:

    • Not even a rough time period like “Q2 2014” lol. That’s Verizon for ya… zilch.

    • Don’t you know, even if info is released. Verizon’s support knows nothing, ever.

      • They usually don’t even know when updates HAVE been released for a phone.

        • My sister went in to ask about the M8 a couple days before it dropped and the rep asked her what she was talking about. She explained and he responded with “I was wondering what the signs meant by the all new HTC One.”

  • Verizon already?! My old Gnex doesn’t even have it yet. No matter though I’m on T-mobile now.

        • Verizon is not the reason that the Galaxy Nexus doesn’t have 4.4, so I don’t get why you would even be asking Verizon for it.

  • That’s what’s up. At least the major flagship devices are getting kitkat and not having to wait too long for it.

      • Think historically OEM’s updates compared to now…that is what I mean by ‘not too long’

      • If you want ASAP look at the moto X and its battery drain issue with the rushed OTA update. I would rather wait the extra few months and get a solid build. again everyone on this site is the 1% of customers teh other 99% do not know or care.

        • On my Nexus 5 I cannot say for certain if I have encountered the KK camera drain bug. I have had 1-2 times per month where my battery seemed low, early in the day, but I would say it was rare.
