With the arrival of the Nexus 6, accessory makers like Spigen are doing their best to try and win over your money by offering up whale-sized forms of protection in a variety of shapes. We happen to have all of Spigen’s Nexus 6 case line-up in house, have gone through each behind the scenes, and finally narrowed the lot down to two in particular that we wanted to highlight for you as options that would we potentially consider on our own.
The two we have chosen to highlight in a video below are the Thin Fit and Ultra Hybrid. We settled on these because the Thin Fit offers up an incredibly snug and thin fit that will give you a level of protection without adding much weight or thickness to a device that is already too large in the eyes of many. We chose the Ultra Hybrid because it’s also very thin, but it takes protection up a notch with a “cushioned” finish that is clear, giving you a constant view of the Shamu underneath.
To find out what we like or dislike about each, be sure to watch the clip below. After that, if there are other cases from other manufacturers that you would like to see, be sure to drop those in the comments.

Why can’t a buy a F-ing Nexus 6!!!!
been trying to decide between the Spigen Thin Fit and the Ringke SLIM and between some of the comments here and the fact that it was $6.99 with $3.99 shipping from Rearth I went ahead and got the Ringke Crystal Clear. In the past I have had ones like the Spigen from Incipeo and while great and thin I think the little extra protection with no more bulk that the Ringke offers is the deciding factor.
I am giving up cases for a while https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC_AnQSX_8A
Where is the drop tests for these cases?
I’m definitely gonna order the Clear Ultra Hibrid case now. And then hopefully I can get the Nexus 6 some time around Christmas or my birthday (Jan 18)…
Wish they made these for the new Moto X.
Please Ringke Amazon link!
I don’t see anything special about this device. wish htc would have made it. this is too dam big. prefer build quality of htc.
Bought a spigen and the quality is crap. The Bear Motion case is actually really really nice
I got the one that is the same as what they have on the play store. TMob had a few of them in stock the day they started selling the N6. For what it’s worth it seems to look and fit exactly like the Spigen Ultra Hybrid. Biggest difference is it has a little stand.
That clear one would be perfect for the moto x; too bad they don’t seem to make anything for it.
Moto sells clear cases for the Moto X.
Unfortunately it’s both out of stock and way over priced, not to mention “translucent” – instead of transparent/clear from what I’ve read.
I was tempted to get the bumper, but $20 seems steep, and it’s out of stock too.
o wow
How much pocket lint/dust gets inside those cases? I would go nuts seeing that through my case.
Would appreciate a similar write up for available cases for the 2014 Moto X.
I have the spigen thin fit black case. The edges on the bottom and by the power/volume buttons are sharp and irritating. If you hold your phone with any fingers under the bottom of the screen like I do, you may not like it.
I used some fine sandpaper to cut down on the irritation, but it’s still there.
i don’t trust PIGPEN. i think they scratch devices. i like Diztronic TPU!!!
I grabbed the Ultra Hybrid in Gun Metal. Love the clear back and the Gun Metal goes well with the blue N6. I might order a black Ultra Hybrid as a backup.
So I’ve Bear Motion and a couple from Ringke on order. Will get them a look and share thoughts in a couple of days. Thanks for all the suggestions.
I picked up their SlimArmor case despite the lukewarm reviews…see amazon for my initial review (Spoiler: I gave it a 5/5):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/review/R3RWUJGPJZ1ZOK/ref=cm_cr_pr_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00OH4I59I
i spent the other day watching drop tests, etc. im getting out of my car it falls on blacktop.. survived. i lost 10 years, but it survived. got motocare yesterday!
Kellen, That’s great that you prefer the 2 cases shown above. But at least I’d like to see a little hands on with the other available spigen cases you have on hand.
Reason I didn’t give them any run is that they aren’t great. The fit and feel, button pressing, all isn’t great. Didn’t want to waste everyone’s time with cases that are sub-standard.
Thats a bold statement to conclude they are sub-standard. at least give us a review to show us how YOU THINK they are sub-standard. Don’t worry about wasting our time, the first solid minute of this video was nothing but chatter anways.
As you know, this community has a varied difference in opinions, interests and tastes. Judging from comments I’ve continually read you are constantly “wasting people’s time” with the constant Moto coverage (I don’t personally agree), but you continue to write about everything Moto. I personally, have the wallet case that you did not feature, and I LOVE it. I think it would be a good service to your readers to show them all and let us each make up our minds for what suits our individual needs.
I have the “official” case from the play store and it is good except dirt gets in there more than any other case I have owned. Can anyone tell me if the Ultra Hybrid does not have that problem?
What about Seidio cases?
Used them on my last 3 phones.
SPIGEN GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER. I want the ultra hybrid for my 2014 moto x!!! Take my money!
The case selection for the 2014 MotoX is pretty bad. I’d like to see a similar write up on cases for that phone. All I want is something thin, preferably clear (or doesn’t hide the back), and something that doesn’t cover/flatten the dimple on the back.
yeah the best I could come up with besides a plastic clamshell was just a bumper case, and those were pretty expensive for what you get
Right and its ridiculous since they can just go Rick Moranis and shrink this case (plus move the buttons) there is nearly zero re-engineering required.
Did you guys do a show last week?
I’m loving my ringke fusion blends a hard back with soft tpu like rim in a solid single piece case. I also tried the ultra hybrid from spigen and it’s buttons felt a little mushy to me. Is the thin fit better? I also have an orzly flexi slim and that is bad. Edges seperate really easily.
How does that clear ultra hybrid do with fingerprints? It looks awfully shiny, which usually translates as “fingerprint magnet.” Yes, I know the Nexus 6 is already a fingerprint magnet, but if I’m going to add a case, my two must haves are a sticky grip and fingerprint resistance.
I’m guess you have the blue model, because I don’t see any fingerprints on my white version.
I ordered the Air Cushioned case, however I really want an Otter Case, I wish they made one. I know they are huge but my job I need all the protection.
Case ive had on mine since day 2, spigen. really good feeling case and adds pretty much no bulk
Is it really pronounces Spy gen? Had no idea.
How I’ve always pronounced, but guess it could be something else, though I’m not sure what that would be heh.
I have the Ultra Hybrid Crystal Clear and it’s amazing. Wireless charging still works, and I’ve seen my wife drop her Moto-X 1st Gen atleast 10 times and her phone doesn’t have a single ding anywhere. She has the Ultra Hybrid or whatever the comparable model was when the MotoX came out as well. These cases are GREAT!
The Thin Fit was the only accessory I bought when I ordered my Nexus 6. I had one on my 5 and loved it. It’s every bit as good on the 6, and I can confirm wireless charging works great with it.
Same here. Only one I could find that kept the profile and made the buttons a bit ore recessed vs. simply covering them. Close as I can get to “naked” with this device until it’s paid off.
Can you show if wireless charging still works on the cases?
I have the Ultra Hybrid as well as the Wallet, and yes wireless charging works on both of those Spigen cases.
Anyone here try the Bear Mouton case yet?
Love My Spigen Air Cushioned Bumper [Ultra Hybrid Series] [Gunmetal] Scratch Resistant Bumper Case with Clear Back Panel! (Amazon SGP11244)!
That’s the Ultra Hybrid featured in this video. (Just with a different color bumper). I like it too!
I’ve been using the Spigen Wallet Case since I got my Nexus 6 two weeks ago (actually had the case before I had the phone) and I LOVE that case. What I like about the wallet case is that it offers more protection than the 2 highlighted in this video, as it not only covers the back, but has a flap with magnetic closure that covers the front, AND it functions as a stand (something that comes in handy with a 6″ phone that has front facing stereo speakers, and it has wallet slots. Now, I have not really used the wallet slots yet, but I can totally see myself using it for times when I’m doing quick errands and don’t need to carry my entire wallet with me. The wallet case also looks and feels fantastic. Another reason I initially chose the wallet case, is because I have traditionally NOT been a case buy, and this Spigen Wallet Case offers very quick and easy removal and insertion. When I’m at home or in a safe place, I pop it out. The 2 negatives to the wallet case is: a. Thickness. It does make the phone much thicker than it really is. And b. the buttons. Motorola did such a great job with the button design, making them so easy to find and differentiate even in low light, and you completely lose that with the wallet case. If you can’t see the buttons clearly, it’s very difficult to find them on the wallet case. So often I’m pressing the volume when I’m trying to turn it on, or I turn it off when I’m trying to raise the volume.
Now I ALSO have the Crystal Clear Spigen Ultra Hybrid Case that is featured in this video, and I like that one too. (It does also come in other color combinations, not just clear). What I like about that case, and why I got it was it’s thin profile. Since the wallet brings a thickness to the Nexus 6, I wanted an alternative for when I wouldn’t be walking around with a bag or coat, and wanted to slide my phone comfortably in my pants pocket, yet still have a degree of protection…more so than just rocking the phone naked. I haven’t used that case out in public yet, but I’ve tested it around the house and like it for the reason I thought I would. As well for it’s clear see through body. It’s not the greatest feeling in the world…it’s basically like soft plastic furniture covering, so I really wouldn’t want it if it were my everyday, all day phone covering, but for my specific needs and wants from it, it does the job just fine.
And one final thing…the Nexus 6 is NOT HEAVY! 😉
I got the Diztronic. I’m a fanboi of theirs, but really wish it had a dimple.
I would have liked to see the other 2 cases in this video. I have the slim armor for my GS4 and love it. Love the neo hybrid too and those would be my go to cases.
I really like the Spigen Wallet Case. Just commented about it.
My daughter prefers the Spigen Air Cushioned Bumper Case
What color option is that? Trying to figure out what’ll look best with my blue back.
That looks exactly like mine – awesome case! Spigen Air Cushioned Bumper [Ultra Hybrid Series] [Gunmetal] Scratch Resistant Bumper Case with Clear Back Panel! (Amazon SGP11244)!
That’s the one ..
Is the gun metal a closer match to the blue on the nexus than the metal slate or did you just like the color better?
Your daughter is adorable.
Thank you very much.. Thank God for Google implenting the screen pinning feature in lollipop, now I can confidently give her my phone without worry lol
lol
Agreed. I may scrap my kid’s LeapPad and buy a spare Nexus 7 just because of this feature.
is your phone holding your daughter? 😛 whos making the call haha
Thanks for sharing :)!
I actually ended up getting this one, thank you!
I have the thin fit and neo hybrid. Thin fit is slippery and too hard (insert joke here), neo hybrid is OK but too shiny for me. Currently using a cheapo eBay TPU case, good grip and more protection than either, and only $4.
So do any/all of these cases still allow you to use the wireless charging?
I have both the Spigen Wallet Case and the Spigen Crystal Clear Ultra Hybrid Case (featured in this video) and they both happily allow wireless charging, without having to remove them.
I’ve got a Cruzerlite case on mine, and wireless charging works fine. You can get it here: http://goo.gl/nN9ptn
my neighbor’s step-mother makes $86 /hr on the computer . She has been fired from work for 6 months but last month her paycheck was $20086 just working on the computer for a few hours. check it out.,.See more
We get it, K…you think the phone is huge…size queen 😉 haha. I ordered up a Cruzerite TPS case and I like it a lot. Waiting to see what Otterbox has in store (I know…even bigger). I assume Speck will have something before not too long as well.
And let me guess…you don’t? I don’t either! I’ve never been a big phone guy, but I seriously don’t think I could go back.
I sure don’t! I think it fits great in hand…I guess I have big hands 😉 I love the amount of screen real estate!
Me too! That screen is fantastic. And it fits my hand perfectly, and feels wonderful.
Exactly! The screen is sharp, bright and colorful… best phone I’ve ever owned!
Thanks for the video. I’d love to see one on the Bear Motion case. It’s similar in shape to the black one in this video, but it should be really grippy, like shark skin.
I have both the ultra and Neo hybrid. I prefer the ultra. The metal slate color looks awesome on the blue Nexus.
I bought three just to try them all out. The main one is rubbery and sticks good in the hand. The look is much nicer than it looks on Amazon as well. They were all cheap but I settled on this one as my daily driver:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OWXD6MA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This one is hefty and will be what I use when in the outdoors hiking, fishing etc.:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PEQRXEQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This one is junk:

Hey fixed! 😛
The Ringke Slim is better than the Spigen Thin Fit IMO…
More coverage and slim profile…
Indeed it is imo. Also, the black SF model is the only one with the grippy rubber soft touch. The white, gun metal, etc..is as slippery as the phone itself sans the better side grip with the small added bulk
I agree, the Ringke slim is superior to the spigen thin cases. More coverage, more secure fit, and no additional thickness. The SF texture gives good grip in an otherwise slippery and unwieldy device. Makes the N6 feel even more premium, which is a feat given its already great build quality.
Do you have the crystal clear one by any chance? I’m curious if that one still has the premium feel, as the Spigen version does not.
I think only the SF black has the slightly grippy texture, I bought a white too and it was just as slippery as the nexus without a case.
Any chance you have the crystal clear one?
No, I have the white…
I got both and sent the Spigen Slim back…the Ringke is much, much better and even has a top and bottom! Also, fingerprints don’t seem to accumulate as bad on the Ringke which is nice for my MB. Plus, the Ringke is a few millimeters thinner which is nice.
I have the slim armor by Spigen for my Nexus 6. The case is good other than the really cheap kickstand.
Video not loading.
I like the Ringke SLIM case from Rearth
Having tried both now, I can safely say that I prefer the Ringke cases. I’ve got a hybrid on my N6 and tried the Spigen waiting for it to ship. The build is more rubbery and just feels better in the hand.
Kellen request a review for the Ringke Slim case! 9.99 on Amazon!
Or the urban armor gear case. The best case IMHO for the n6!
Just got the rinke rearth slim fit clear case yesterday. Very well made and fit and cut outs are perfect. It also looks very nice on the phone and doesn’t hide its beauty.
However, a bit slippery and doesn’t inspire confidence as I almost dropped it a few times. Has slight separations on each corner. Not sure it will survive a light drop.
I still prefer a lightweight tpu case for grip and absorption.
Ringke’s killing it with their case design. I have that same “Slim” style design on my M8 and it’s the slimmest case with all around protection.
Have the Thin Fit, it’s perfect
The video….no bueno
