I probably don’t need to keep explaining this each time we cover an Apple event, but this is the internet and the people taking up its space, particularly those on Twitter who use hashtags like #salty and #bitter and #jealous, never cease to amaze me. So, it’s Apple Watch day! And yes, we are doing our typical Apple event live chat, because well, it’s fun. The internet shuts down during Apple events, so why not join in on the festivitiesΒ even if we are an Android-related news outlet? Seriously, that’s the thought here. That’s it. It’s fun.
OK, that was partially a lie. Outside of the fun (but still related to the fun), Apple is an easy target to lob right hooks at because they say really, really serious things with the straightest of faces that are hilarious to actualΒ humans. They also don’t think there is a world outside of their products or product categories, which brings great joy to our lives as snarky, tech pundits. Just ask Tim Cook about smartwatches. You can’t make this stuff up, and we appreciate that. Keep being you, Tim and friends.Β
Anyways, it’s Apple Watch day! I have no predictions to make, but do hope people are dumb enough to pay $5,000+ for a piece of 1st gen wrist tech that will be outdated in six months. I can’t wait. I also can’t wait for gold to be invented. Not the color, but the metal.
Join us at 10AM Pacific (1PM Eastern). There is a live chat set up below. If you want to watch the live stream from Apple’s event, you can do so here. Because this is Apple, and as I just mentioned, a world doesn’t exist outside of Apple, you need an Apple device or Apple’s Safari browser in order to watch it.

I’m not an irrational Apple hater like a lot of you Android fanboys around here, but the Apple Watch is pretty underwhelming. Huawei’s watch looks much, much better.
“It’s so innovative”Apple Sheep
Droid Life’s twitter is on point right now!
Work break: Everyone referring to it as the “iWatch”.. Kill me now
Did anyone watch it with vlc, I couldn’t get it to work. Ended up watching on youtube. It worked on usteam but I could only get video no sound.
It worked fine for me. Just had to google the direct link to the stream.
Noob question. How did you get the link by googling. What was your search statement?
Something to the tune of “watch apple event on windows”. Found the link on 9to5Mac.
People rushing in line to by a watch, but not just any watch, because since it has the apple logo the masses that adore apple will think it is the best “fitness” “smartwatch ever made…….
so who’s going to buy the Apple Watch Edition 18-karat gold to replace their family Rolex heirloom /s?
So, in conclusion. The only new thing we saw today was USB-c on a laptop, and a release day announced for an overpriced watch. Nice!
So it’s already been over 6 months since the Apple watch announcement and you can ONLY pre order one on April 10th so it’s going to be well over half a years time before anyone can even touch one? LOL So much for Apple not having people wait for a product after an announcement
EPIC FAIL ON APPLE
What you want one?
No thank you.
I agree but pre sales will be huge. The sheep are starting to gather…
Yep I could not agree with you anymore.
Hey I got to give props to Apple I had no issues being able to stream their event. They must have toke lessons on how to live stream their events from Samsung and HTC LOL
When will walmart be selling it?
damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Watched the whole thing on youtube
iWatch is going to be big flop.
A 10K watch? from Apple? YOU MUST BE JOKING TIM COOK!!!!!!!
was that Vice President Al Gore? 3rd row back?
WHOA! did somebody see the price of the watch?????
A bagillion dollars.
From Apple’s Post ”
The audience follows every word (and image, and video, and demo) of todayβs event.”
These Apple events are about as exciting as getting a tooth pulled by Ben Stein while he’s reading War and Peace.
Guys! Did you see the new Apple Glasses? Its a design they came up with all by themselves. I think it will revolutionize and crush any rebel manufactures that oppose them.
Hope Cook comes out like this…..
Is that one of those cheap azz Burger King hats?!?!?!?!?!?!?
How can iWatch?
I’ve downloaded safari and everything. Still nothing. Please help. I wanna see apple make a smart watch revolutionary
Its only on Mac.
so… i know this is my own opinion, and totally relative, but… the people that comprise the crowds at Apple presentations are WAY more lame looking than the ones and Google presentations.
Anybody having troubles watching this stream on Windows or Android can watch the following URL with VLC Media Player:
http://p.events-delivery.apple.com.edgesuite.net/1503ohibasdvoihbasfdv/m3u8/atv_mvp.m3u8
Only supported by MAC
Can’t wait for “Scarf Guy” to make his second appearance.
Apple has NEVER been known for knowing how to life stream it’s events. LOL
I will give Apple mad props if they can at least figure out how to live stream one of their events. What a EPIC FAIL the iphone6 6 event was and is more proof that Apple is not the company that many people seem to think they are.
Have fun poking fun at apple people. Again, they are promoting their product like every other company does. Do you want them to have some ho-hum press conference or send out a silly press-conference-in-a-box like Moto?
Grow up. They company makes billions and this is how they do it. If you owned a company that made as much as they did doing and saying the things they do, you would do the same.
All this I hate Apple crap is ridiculous. It’s just another company making tech products. True tech geeks love tech, no matter who makes it.
Flame away!
Not a flame, because I agree – Geeks love tech. Period. But it’s not the tech that is being giggled at. Just their egotistical “we are the first” presentations.
I think you will agree that, for the most part owning an Apple device as not become about the tech (for the majority of users) like it is with most Android users. It’s about “I own an Apple device”. I find that funny, and that is where Android/Apple flip flop sides. Even if (and I said IF) the tech isn’t as good, or as innovative – most (not all, mind you) Apple users are only excited about the little fruit on the back.
Just wondering when they are going to use another word besides “revolutionized” lol
Apple’s products are good. What I don’t like is their ignorance and how they think only they matter by the many comments that they make. Sometimes, it’s best to keep quiet. Oh, and don’t get me started on the sheepish consumers… (not all are sheepish)
Nope just chickens.
The smart watch market begins today. I’m excited to see what they will bring.
pretty sure it started a while ago… it just hasn’t been properly marketed to the brain dead yet…
Apple makes the market react. Can’t deny that. I guarantee that after today, the smart watch will become commonplace.
Very true, but to say that the market begins today is very Apple of you. They didn’t invent this like they and the sheep will claim.
But but but Apple invented time, space and now they are revolutionizing the way you see time and space!
APPLE: Making UGLY trendy
I’m sure your parents started that with your birth.
go back to cult of mac F@g
Quick Summary:
“Blagh, blagh, blagh; Apple made it so you should just buy it, blagh, blagh, blagh”.
Press event sneak peak (never gets old)

I’m sorry, but I just can’t stomach watching Apple events live anymore. Their arrogant, pompous, verbosity almost makes me vomit in my own mouth. I’ll wait to hear what I need to know about it from Droid-Life once all the exaggerated comments from the Apple brass are finished, and the lights go completely dim onstage.
The one thing I hope most here don’t do is to look at the watch from a tech prospective. This gadget success will all be about fashion, and in fashion specs do not win the day, names and emotions do.
Tim Cook, “Watch, Apple. We invented that $h!t. We own the patent on time cause we came up with it”
I F’n hate apple – enough said
i cannot wait for my social media feeds to plow up
I cannot wait for spellcheck.
well, nothing is *spelled* wrong, but…come on.
“Your” Invited….
This picture would work if OnePlus made a smart watch (If you replaced Apple with OnePlus, of course)
I’d be invited to see them try
I wonder if they have bouncers checking the door at the live event for anyone wearing an android watch.
No, MKBHD posted on Instagram showing the time on his moto 360.
“Not the color, but the metal” I am guessing this version costs close to $1000. I heard $349 or 399 base and up from there.
side note. I also hate not being able to view because i dont use safari or an iOS device. Kinda dumb…
Doesn’t make a ton of sense from a marketing perspective. I’m not going to run out and buy an apple product just so I can hear announcements of product I in which I *might* interested.Versus opening to largest viewing public as possible in hopes that those who doesn’t already own an apple product will say “hey that is cool, I want that”.
i feel you can have 2 opinions on it….1 being brillant apple makes people use their products to watch view….or 2 apple are a bunch of jerks requiring a streamed event to only be used on their products. I agree with you though. Bottom line is make it streamable everywhere and market to more people who want to watch it. I remember when I used to watch all the iphone unveils, the new OSX and macbook refreshes, the iPad events. it was entertaining.
just use VLC player and put the stream link in under media. Works great.
Touche…never thought of that. Thanks
The only thing that I think they have it going for them is the Apple Pay feature on the watch. If done right, I think that will be a huge powerhouse. Everything else…..
Apple wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t have that god complex thing going for them.
Bitter posts. Who cares? No one ever had an iPod back in the day?
yeah, but the ipods kept changing. now they are all the same. boring.
I don’t care, I want it to hold a lot of music, last a long time, and just work which the iPod classic does. Still have the same one since 06.
i still have mine too lol.
I actually never had an ipod….I got by just fine with my other MP3 player
I don’t see Apple as the problem. What I do see as a problem are all the blogs (for, against) that are consumes with everything Apple related. I do not blame them, since Apple moves the needle for not only themselves, but everyone else. See the number of comments you get if Apple is in the headlines, since the blogs gets paid by clicks (mostly) it makes sense to keep going to that well.
agreed. but im anxious to see it dry up. (the well) you can only hang the same boring OS over consumers for so long. Android is ever changing and ever customizable with everything within it. i just dont understand how people dont see that lol. its frustrating.
This is where you are wrong. People as a whole do not like change. It may be frustrating for people like you and (me in the past). The truth is most people don’t want to deal with things like that. Same can be said with cars, how many people works or repair their cars (very few). That’s what the geeks don’t get 80%+ folks don’t want to change or deal with constant changes with their techs, gadgets, they just want it to work. That’s the crowd Apple appeals to and its also why they will continue to succeed.
so they are winning by not changing ? thats a very good explanation and i can see the appeal. very good rebuddle Toukale.
They are winning by catering to the needs of the biggest piece of the pie. That part of the market just wants things as simple as possible for several reasons.
as long as Apple updates the camera, the design, and a few UI things, the people that buy those products are gonna continue to buy them. at this point their view of a smartphone is what an iphone is. they dont need new features and do-dads like android people need. so, that boring OS is exactly what they want. no need to customize. because people are dumb. and people buy iphones, so they dont need to think.
hahaha i like your explanation lol touche` !!
To me, the biggest source of revenue is ironically enough, the Android fanboys who use every opportunity to troll Apple-related articles. Just visit sites like Cnet. There are always verbal turf wars going on between both sides, which is way more entertaining and engaging than any article written there could ever be. You have Apple articles averaging a few hundred comments, and some even clocking in with over 1000 comments, and everything else would be lucky to get more than 10.
The opposite of love is not hatred but indifference. Apple doesn’t care about what sort of attention it gets, as long as it is attention which keeps it in the news and on the minds of everyone. You are right in that there probably is a pro-Apple bias in blogs, but who can blame them when it’s what is bring in the revenue?
lol
Imagine thinking the iWatch has a nice design, especially after the Moto 360, LG G Watch R, and LG Watch Urbane.
Sadly, these will sell like hotcakes, and outsell every other smart watch on the market.
all because it has apple on it. so sad.
It will sale well because it will not be a presented as a tech gadget but a fashion accessories. This is where every android wear have failed so far. They keep trying to please the tech crowd (which is a niche).
i can see that, but what about eh LG Urbane or the G watch R ? those were all marketed as fashion as well. yet still many people of never even heard of the R or Urbane. like enigmaco said, its their god complex.
The problem there is those are not fashionable names or companies. Fashion is different from techs, it’s all about emotion and the name, Apple have that going for them in spades. Frankly they are the only tech company that can leverage their names in the fashion world. They have been doing that for years now.
I think it’s that plus the psych side. Apple got into the minds of consumers that their products are the best. For example, before I got into computers and such, I bought a macbook pro, thinking it’s the best out there and no other laptop can compare. I am dead wrong, and I’ve stopped that thinking a while ago. It’ll be the same for the Apple Watch. A lot of people associate price = quality, but they can’t see it’s an overcharge
Ehh, I hate Apple and I’m a die hard windows and android guy yet my primary PC? A macbook air.
Why? Exceptional build quality, incredibly thin and light (yet quite powerful) and the main selling point for me? 10 hour battery life.
At the time they released the Haswell MBA there was no other laptop that even came close (and to this day, I honestly don’t know of any that do, but admitedely being completely happy with this system I haven’t looked around recently either).
You are one of the few that gets it. I work in IT and it so funny how the tech people don’t understand the business behind. Tech jobs are in such high demand because there are so few of us. You don’t make money catering to the few.
Really though. People just don’t get it. For better or worse, wearables should be fashionable. Not to say that the Apple Watch is the pinnacle of design, but the Android Wear watches have been generally hideous. The 360 for example, is cumbersome, has an odd bezel, it’s huge and it’s just kinda ugly. Besides, people who say Apple this and that are missing the point. Apple has an ecosystem that is just air tight. I have a Macbook Air and the sheer amount of stuff I could do if I had and iPhone, Apple TV, iPad and now Apple Watch is absolutely staggering. Overpriced and locked? Yes. But staggering nonetheless. It would help if Google or someone could just take Android, as open as it is, and make a set of hardware that just works awesomely. Why isn’t there a Nexus watch? Why isn’t there a Nexus fitness band? Slacking.
no offense but the ecosystem argument is tired and not really an advantage when the foundation of android’s ecosystem are google’s apps which are far more powerful than apple’s as they are cross platform and far more advance. Apple just now added icloud drive and icloud just now got the ability to use pages, numbers and keynote which are still in beta and extremely poorly executed in fact their entire cloud computing setup is one big ugly mess compared to google’s
Meh, I’d have to disagree with it being “ugly” – I get compliments all the time on it – mostly from folks who at first glance think it’s a Movado due to the blacked out face. Then they become extremely intrigued when I….finger….it
To most people, a nice watch is a nice watch. And Toukale mixed up fashion, with blind brand loyalty. Fashion isn’t about a name, unless that name constantly puts out beautiful, fashionable items. There’s plenty of ugly crap that the “big names” put out that absolutely bombs because it’s not fashionable at all. This Apple watch is not fashionable..Period.
One of the things I would celebrate all the time about Apple was their ability to design beautiful technology, they’ve failed twice now, the iPhone 6 is abominable, and this thing is exceptionally hideous. I will say though, the 2014 iMacs are very easy on the eyes, picked one up and am in love.
Also, I don’t want to get into some gender binaries/patriarchy argument, but square watches scream femininity to me. My mother, sisters, girlfriends all wore square faced watches (typically thin faces), and every male I’ve known has worn a round watch. Not to say one CAN’T wear the other, but everything about this watch is a bit feminine. It doesn’t seem like a unisex product to me.
well the majority of ios users are women so makes sense.
I’d have to agree…Maybe I’m wrong, maybe Apple’s mobile line is geared towards women’s “fashion”. Now that you say that, I take back my previous stance on it not being fashionable. If that’s the demographic they’re after – then I think they’ve captured it.
Also, and I haven’t seen the Keynote, are they still rocking the round digital watch face inside the square physical face? If so…Wow.
A lot of people say Apple is popular because of “this or that” but I think its a mixture of different things, rather than just one specific thing.
For example, although I use Android there is one thing No one can argue with. And thats that Apple’s products feel extremely premium and extremely polished. not just in hardware but in software. Although Android offers far more options and far more flexibility, Apple has strength in, simplicity, consistency, quality and brand recognition. I also think bad things about Android in its early years has haunted the platform and is still stuck in a large part of consumers minds. Also apple hasn’t helped by claiming android is a maleware infested platform and the idea that Android is for low income people that can’t afford a shiny apple product.
That apple watch as a fashion item? What world are you living in? One where hello kitty is real?
I truly think that if Apple told all of their followers that they had a cure for cancer that all of them would believe them.
this reminds me of jude law’s character in the movie “Contagion”. Basically a metaphor of apple and its followers
This is your opinion but in NO WAY a fact.
Never said it was anything other than my opinion, but let’s face facts. Apple outsells every other Android OEM when they compete head to head. Do you honestly see this being any different?
Be very careful when you claim every other Android OEM because it has already been reported that The Samsung GS-6 has already had a record number of Pre orders over 15 million of them to be exact and during the product launch of the iphone6 during that weekend they Apple sold 10 million of them so if you do the math Samsung is already ahead of Apple if this rumor holds true because remember no one can get their hands on the S-6 until April 10th. Apple is the most overrated company in the world and yet they have people like you as their poster child. LOL
Right. I’m Apple’s poster child even though I use a Nexus 6 and own no Apple products. Makes sense.
Also, those 15 million GS6 preorders were made by carriers and retailers, not end users of the device. Big difference.
If you think that these carriers are buying these devices with them thinking that they are not going to sell them then you’re a fool. Where’s this proof of yours that these wireless carriers are not going to be able to sell them? LOL I know you’re crying over what will be a loss of money at the end of the day for Apple.
I don’t care what device you’re using I still find it very funny that people need to post how good Apple is doing on an all things Android website.
They also ordered 20 million S5’s, and only sold 12 million.
I’m not denying that the S-5 was an Epic fail on Samsung’s part in terms of sales. However you have to keep in mind that this was a record order on the S-6 vs ANY OTHER Samsung phone before it and the demand for the S-6 is huge even bigger vs the S-3 so if the S6 does not sell the way that I expect it will then I will be shocked.
Obviously they intend to sell those phones, and I have no doubt they’ll sell all of them. That’s kind of the point with these entities ordering them, right?
My original point, which clearly went over your head, however, was that despite Apple Watch being an inferior device, it will still sell better than anything Android Wear or Samsung Gear related. Like it or not, that’s the way it is for now. For whatever reason you’re mistaking this as some kind of Apple enthusiasm, which it isn’t.
Quote [Also, those 15 million GS6 preorders were made by carriers and retailers, not end users of the device. Big difference.] End quote
These where your very own words not mine so please don’t make me laugh. And you NEVER answered my question you just agreed with me as you contradicted yourself with this statement and I quote [Obviously they intend to sell those phones, and I have no doubt they’ll sell all of them] so you basically disagreed with yourself without even knowing it. LOL
Do you have some sort of proof backing up ANYTHING that you claim? Are you Tim Cook or do you work for Apple? I find it funny how the Apple watch has not even came out yet and yet you’re still trying to make some sort of victory speech for Apple when pre orders for the Apple watch don’t even start until April 10th. Where are you getting your info from that it will out sell everything else before anyone can even pre order it? and how do you seem to know this before anyone else including Apple? LOL
And you still never gave me any real reason why you’re posting all of this nonsense on a all things Android blog.
Samsung has a pretty bad track record when it comes to accurately reporting units sold, so I am taking this report with a pinch of salt. It’s not impossible that the S6 may do well, but IMO, the problem with Samsung is Android, and as long as they continue to go with it, I honestly don’t see their fortunes reversing.
Sorry but I don’t think ANY company is going to report that it had a record number of pre-orders without doing it’s homework ahead of time so I have to disagree with you on this one. Also the demand must be huge for the S-6 for the carriers to order this many units because the demand for the S-6 seems to be even bigger then the S-3 and remember how much of a huge hit that was for Samsung? I just love reading things like this and then watch all the haters crying in the comments and making up one excuse after the other this is great entertainment for me.
Apple is the pop music of the Tech World. Android is Every Other Genre.
The Apple watch. The first ever smart watch. Just $699 for the 2GB model. $999 for the 64GB.
apple watch. just a mini ipod for your wrist. wait, didnt we already come out with that ?
Yeah! The Shuffle with a rubber band: Problem solved. π
introducing: the apple watch. 2 – 3 hours of sheer perfect battery life (30 minutes if you send your friend your heart beat)
Moto 360 reviews by Apple press: 2-3 hours, worst battery life in history.
Apple Watch reviews by Apple press: 2-3 hours, all-day battery life!
You have to throw in the word Revolutionary in there somewhere :p
I’ve been trying to find data on how the moto 360 did. Samsung said they had the best Android Wear sales, but I’m kind of doubtful.
as far as battery life my Moto 360 last the entire day with ease, sometimes two days
I can get 2 days out of my 360 sometimes, but usually I get a day. Sometimes I barely get to lunch. The only certainty that I have with my 360 is that I will not know what kind of battery life I will get on any given day.
Yeah but the Apple people will say you dont use it as much as someone with an Apple Watch since it is using all these sensors
I have a feeling that Apple folks won’t really be too eager to discuss smart watches in the near future.

A great day for Android Wear if it works on Apple devices because the prices are more affordable for people, and in turn would sell more.
