Kellen

It’s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but that’s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • Damn, this is so fantastic, being able to search and play pod casts right from the Google Search! Works great! But don’t tell the European Union, or they’ll sue Google for unfair competition with Pocket Casts and other podcast apps.

    • I think they cleared this on the blog post it says available globally so I don’t think they are trying to be quiet about it.

  • Glad to know its not just me that can’t find the podcasts on the app. As for Podcast recommendations, what are your interests, what do you like? If you like Agents of Shield, there’s probably a podcast about it. If your into Video games, check the IGN or Kinda Funny family of Podcasts. Comedy, check Bill Burr or 85 South. Sports, ESPN has family of podcasts. My personal rotation of Podcasts are as follows:

The Read w/ Kid Fury and Crissels
    In the Conversation
Brilliant Idiots w/ Charlamagne and Andrew Shultz
Juan Epstein w/ Ciph and Rosenberg
I’ll Name this Podcast Later (The Joe Budden Podcast)
The 85 South Show w/ Karlous Miller and DC Young Fly
    Podcast Beyond
    Afterbuzz TV’s The Vampire Diaries
    Afterbuzz TV’s The Originals
(Afterbuzz TV does a podcast about almost every current show on TV, so if you like TV and want to try podcasts, find your favorite show and the corresponding podcast and give it a listen.)
His and Hers (as seen on ESPN TV)
The Evening Jones w/ Bomani Jones.

There are millions of Podcasts, If you have the time to listen, i’m sure one or ten will be worth your time.

  • I’ll just use the app and add them to my list so I can just do that. cool though, google, thumbs up

  • Does anyone have the Podcasts in the Google Play Music Android App yet? The latest off apkmirror didn’t have them for me, but have the new icon. (yes, I’m in the US)

    • Same. The app updated yesterday, with newest icon showing. However no podcast ability. For awhile I thought it was just me. Really wish I knew how to get on list that Google uses to determine who gets updates first…

    • Not me either, and I am an early adopter of the All Access, which I was hoping would benefit me.

    • Received an update this morning with the new icon and podcasts. Really like it so far.

    • Serial #1 is amazing, Serial #2 is good but it’s different. TED talks are good. Lore. The Black Tapes. Hardcore History is good too.

    • I’m a fan of Nerdist, This Week in Tech, Stuff You Should Know, Cinema Sins and of course Droid Life.

  • I manually updated my play music app with the newest APK, but I still don’t have podcasts. Is that happening for anyone else? Maybe once I get this update it’ll work?

    • I don’t have GPM Podcasts on my phone either, even with the latest app. I have it on my computer, so if it’s an account thing, it’s definitely turned on.

        • Although… I must say… If it works like the web version (which, I assume it would), I’ll probably stick with PocketCasts for now. Not being able to set up a playlist is kind of a dealbreaker. I don’t want to listen to 4 episodes of a single podcast in a row. I want to play a set of various podcasts, in the order that I choose. Seems basic to me, but… strangely, Google didn’t feel that was important.

      • I’m also in the same boat. No update for the android app in the play store either.

  • Going to give it a shot, but I’ve already noticed that they don’t have half of the podcasts i listen to using DoggCatcher.
