During today’s keynote of the Samsung Developer Conference, the Korean electronics giant had some major announcement to share surrounding Samsung Pay. The news involves being able to withdraw cash from ATMs using the mobile payment service and which additional countries will (finally) gain access later this year.
For Samsung Pay users in Korea who happen to use Woori Bank, you will now be able to withdraw cash at ATMs. That’s huge news, though Samsung wouldn’t share any other information about other future markets or supported banks. But still, if mobile payment systems are going to be the future, they need to be able to do everything your cards can and that includes getting you access to cash.
As for the rollout to new countries, Samsung said to expect Samsung Pay to hit Australia, Brazil, Canada, Singapore, Spain, and the UK later this year. That’s excellent news for those of us with unlocked Galaxy S7s who can’t access Samsung Pay, even in the US. Of course, that’s also great news for those of you who live in those countries.

Wish it made its way to the Netherlands..
Does anyone know if this means that if you were to buy an unlocked variant from the countries that support (or will support) Samsung Pay that it will work at all? For example, buying an unlocked SG7 in the UK – Samsung Pay will not work. Which is stunning since most of Europe revolves around unlocked models.

If this really does mean I’d be able to buy an s7 from the UK and still get Pay access here and not that Pay itself is somehow region locked, I might be getting a new phone soon.
I wish all vending machines would get NFC support. It’s so annoying when you’ve to deal with coins that fall through.
Amen

I wonder how this works in practice. I’ve yet to get Samsung Pay to work with an embedded “insert-remove” reader (as opposed to a side-mounted swipe reader), which pretty much all ATMs in this hemisphere have. Maybe Korean ATMs have swipe readers?
I was thinking the same. Would like to see a video demo
Check CNET they have a video on YouTube
I’ve used SP at the new readers at Costco, Panera, and Vons. They all worked fine. All the new readers I’ve seen also come with the swipe reader on the side.
