T-Mobile announced today that its Binge On video service now supports over 80 streaming platforms, thanks to the addition of a new wave.
New video-only services include NBC, Univision, and Qello Concerts, but T-Mobile has also added in music services that happen to show videos. Services like Google Play Music, Radio Disney, Spotify, and TIDAL all have videos within their apps and so it only makes sense that Binge On add them to help ease data concerns of T-Mobile customers.
This is the 5th amping of Binge On since its launch, which means there are few video services left that aren’t a part of the throttling fun. If you want to help reduce the network strain on T-Mobile reduce the amount of data your video watching takes up, Binge On should get you there.
The full list of today’s additions is:
- Google Play Music
- Great Big Story
- NBC
- Kiswe
- Ligonier Ministries
- NOGGIN
- Qello Concerts
- Radio Disney
- Univision
- Univision Noticias
- Spotify
- TIDAL
- Toon Goggles

T-mobile is really kickin butt with this. If they expand their coverage to be closer to VZW and AT&T, they will trounce them. I am on VZW for two main reasons, the coverage almost everywhere and my unlimited data plan. I don’t see a reason to stay with them if T-mobile begins to get signal where I need it.
So to further confuse – if I choose to stream MUSIC on Google Play Music at the highest quality setting over cellular, I actually get the highest quality even with Binge On set to “on,” right?
Music freedom is separate from binge on. Music is full quality/ uncompressed/un throttled regardless of bingeON settings.
Awesome. Thanks for explaining!
No problem! Anytime.
HI See this
just opened 3 unlimited lines on Tmo. Do I need Binge-On? Or should I disable it?
For music, that’s not switchable. For video, you can turn it off if you have unlimited (I do), but if you’re just going to watch on a phone anyway, then having it on could avoid potential network hiccups due to the smaller amount of data you’d be transferring. Try turning it off and see if you are able to satisfactorily stream videos. If not, then you might turn it back on.
Unless they changed how it works, they limit the connection speed to video streaming services so the client is forced to only render low quality video, basically it’s the same as trying to load video on a heavily congested tower.
Edit : Didn’t see you had unlimited (no clue how I read that without seeing). Turn it off.
Turn off binge-on, there is zero incentive to have it on with unlimited data.
Thanks for the heads-up. Still getting acquainted with T-mo, but so far no complaints.
I actually keep it on with my unlimited plan. I’ve found the compression to work very well. YouTube and Netflix tend to be 720p with it enabled so I don’t mind lowering the network load. In congested areas, video works much, much better with it enabled than disabled.
Most people report BingeOn to cause excessive buffering, which is solved by turning it off. I’ll say you are one of the rare exceptions
Where are these “most people”? As an avid contributor to T-Mobile’s Reddit, I completely disagree. Prior to YouTube joining, yes there were serious buffering issues for YouTube. Once they signed on, all the issues I’ve ever had went away.
I have an unlimited plan, but I leave Binge-On enabled. Why? Because I often use my phone as a hotspot (which IS limited). Enabling Binge-On allows me to stream from my AppleTV, Roku, FireTV without running out of data in my tethering plan.
Ahh gotcha. Good call. I was thinking of that today. But does the “DVD Quality” downgrade applied to the viewing device? (Tablet, apple TV, ETC)?
Somewhat T-Mobile related….
is there a way to allow OTA updates to be downloaded via data instead of WiFI on T-Mobile? Damn thing made me wait until on WiFi to download the Nexus May security update patch, all 10MB of it. Verizon didn’t restrict me before and it somewhat bugs me T-Mobile does. Nexus 6 by the way…
Big red is always good for something lol
Is Youtube Kids part of Youtube when it comes to BingeOn?
At this point, other than small pockets of no service, T-Mobile is the best carrier in the land. They have features, speed, value, and a good network. As a Verizon user who’s home FINALLY got signal, I am ready to switch come September when all my contracts are up with Verizon.
Just dropped (sold) 2 Verizon UDP lines for T-Mo last week. Been great so far! At least 90% of the coverage Verizon has in my state (KY) in the areas I have traveled to. Faster speeds across the board as well.
I thought they stopped allowing accounts to be sold?
I don’t think they ever allowed them to be “sold”, but they do still allow you to do an Assumption of Liability, hah.
Thanks. I knew they technically didn’t allow selling the account, I just thought I saw people saying that they closed the method people used. Good to know it still available. I’ve got 2 UDP lines I’d sell if T-Mobile is good in my area when I try it out.
Yup, if anything, I’ve read that it has gotten easier since the $20 price hike on off-contract UDP lines.
FYI you can get one of the prepaid SIMs for free (or a couple bux) and run speedtests without having service. No need to buy an account yet. 😉
My plan was to get the SIM kit and then get a month of prepaid. My last contract is up in June, so I want to make sure it works all over town before I drop my VZ unlimited plans.
When B12 went active in Cincinnati we switched from AT&T. I miss AT&T as much as I miss the last flu I had.

how much did you net off those lines?
I switched off verizon last month, dropped my 2 UDP lines and picked up 2 t-mobile UDP lines. Saving easily $60+ overall and thats before the $20 price hike. coverage has been great and even places like my office the coverage and speed is significantly better and faster.
How much did you sell your old plans for?
I don’t think you can sell them anymore. Can you? I read somewhere that they’ve closed up the AOL loophole, isn’t that right?
Edit: Just opened up 3 UDP lines on Tmo. Keeping my Verizon UDP with Mifi for travel, etc. Thanks for the idea many moons ago.
They can still be sold, it just depends on the rep if you need or don’t need an existing UDP already to take over a new UDP.
Gotcha. I also read that the AOL going through is dependent on the recipient having good credit or else it gets rejected. Would make for a headache scenario if selling via ebay for example. =/
So much for Ricky Gervais’ “only faster in one town in Kansas ad.” bah.
Small is a big negative. It’s still pretty big. It’s getting better.
Did this last month, very happy with the switch. No more worries about data. Stream all day.
Why wait? T-mo covers the early termination fees and payment plan balance (you need to trade in your phones, though)
We don’t have phones to trade in because they are high end newer and unlocked. Did the math, cheaper to wait by about $250
