Sony’s new Xperia X line, the series of phones that was introduced back in February at MWC as a replacement for the Xperia Z line, is officially inching closer to a launch here in the US. Sony, probably as an announcement timed to fit nicely into the blast of Computex announcements, told US press today that the Xperia X series will get here just as the summer is kicking off.
The Xperia X is up for pre-order today for $550 at Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H Photo, and will arrive on June 26. If you want the Xperia X Performance ($699) or the Xperia XA ($279), you can pre-order either on June 19 before they hit stores on July 17. If the Xperia XA Ultra ($369) is the phone for of your dreams, July 24 is your day.
Need a recap on the Xperia X line? Here are the specs of the phones that really matter, the X and X Performance.

As you can see, these phones both have solid specs, though the pricing seems a bit high for what you are getting. At $550 for the Xperia X, you can get a 64GB Nexus 6P, which tops the Xperia X in almost every single category. At $699 for the Xperia X Performance, we’re now up there in Galaxy S7 Edge territory where this phone just can’t compete with Samsung’s flagship for 2016. Oh, and even though the official specs say that they have a fingerprint reader, they more than likely don’t in the US.

HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHHAAHHAHA. SD650 FOR USD550.???LOL. XIAOMI CAN GET YOU SD 650 FOR USD 178!!! lol SONY,go home.
I was so excited to try out the Z5 Compact, but it’s software was bigtime jank. Now, I literally only used it a handful of minutes once it got the 6.0 update, so maybe that helped a ton (still had an issue with wifi cutting out though), but it’s not worth it to me to spend the money to potentially find another awesome phone ruined by software jank. I agree with all the people here that say Sony’s design is nice though. I would still love to see a Nexus phone created by Sony.
Insane prices. GG hf ttyl Sony.
It’s really too bad.. sony has some of the best designed phones imo.. but they’ve been such a mixed bag lately.. especially with the fingerprint sensor being left out in the US and price and battery.. love the size drop though.. wish more companies would make 5″ or smaller phones.. (I’d kill for a ~4.7″ HTC 10.. (love the 10, just would like it to be a little smaller))
Anybody else find it amusing that Sony is ditching Z for X and Moto is ditching X for Z?
It’s like they’re not even trying anymore
What is so hard for companies to make easy names on phones… Seriously, look at Apple and Samsung, Google had it right for a bit to.
IPhone 5, 5s, 6, 6s, 7, 7s
S5, S6, S7, S8
See how simple that makes it..
So, to sum things up, Sony is going from Z to X with their next phones and Moto is going from X to Z. Unnecessarily confusing? Possibly.
Seems like there should be an equation there somewhere although I always hated Postulates and Theorems:
Sony(X > Z) = Moto(Z > X)
The phones that really matter? With puny 5″ screens, are you kidding me? lol
They look pretty nice really. I like that it’s dropped in size from 5.2″ to 5″. But it should have 820 /4GB at that price. Or be $100 cheaper.
And what’s with Sony making the battery increasingly smaller with literally every release since the Z2? (3200, 3100, 2900, now 2700/2620….)
Sony peaked with the Z2.
the performance is waterproof
Dear Sony, if this is how your marketing goes, may I suggest: http://www.theverge.com/2016/5/31/11818358/sirin-labs-solarin-privacy-smartphone-hands-on-photos
Is it me, or are the only differences listed above are a (VERY) modest size /weight increase and a different processor? I realize the SD820 is better than the 650, but $150 better? I seriously doubt it. What the hell are those cats smoking over there? Also, isn’t the Z3 (I think that’s what it’s called) cbasically the same phones but at a lower price?
Related, went to their site: http://www.sonymobile.com/us/products/phones/xperia-x-performance/ — Is it me or does it basically say “Blah Blah Blah Camera Blah blah blah camera blah blah blah camera…?”
Oh, but it’s now SHINY METAL (PREMIUM, per the site). Dolts.
updated camera
I got a line-new 64GB 6P on Swappa for $420. Couldn’t imagine paying that price for these.
lol One Plus already got you beat, Sony. Good luck with that nonsense.
Instant fail at these prices, they should have priced at $399 and $499 to be competitive in this market.
No FP scanner, might as well be $99 and $199. Pitiful.
They have fingerprint scanners under the side power button.
so did the z5… But not in the USA.
These are DOA! Way too late (and even more than a month later than the UK, etc.), overpriced and they’re removing the fingerprint scanners… ONLY FOR THE US. What the hell is that!? What a joke…
I can’t believe Sony thinks they can sell these based of their brand name. No wonder the mobile division struggles.
Sony isn’t serious about the US market, that much should be evident. They’ve never really been serious about the US market, though. I remember being a Sony Ericsson fan a decade ago and disappointed about their US availability.
It just saddens me to think this is the same company that made my blu-ray player and PlayStation.
holy cow yeah, what were they thinking. the Sony name ain’t worth that much. Oh well :v
The fingerprint removal is because of the fcc and patents. Sad to see Sony go. They laid off their mobile reps earlier in the year
I was wondering what the reasoning was behind that…
Supposedly, there’s no fingerprint sensors on the US versions~
Nothing supposedly about it… that’s confirmed
$700 huh? Sony still living in the 90s. Probably still waiting on Y2K. No thanks.
Remember when Nokia n95 costed 600$+?:D or the super expensive Sony Walkmans lol
Remember when the PlayStation 3 cost $700?
And had blu ray the whole generation while Xbox was stuck with assbackwords tech and 6 disc games.
Not worth 700 especially with 2 hour install times. And The 360 Killed them last gen.
Lol 360
PS3 4 milliion less and now PS4 is selling 2x as much.
It was worth it considering many first blu ray players alone costed nearly $1000.
And yet the 360 spanked the PS3 anyway.
If I recall (could be wrong), didn’t the PS3 end up passing the 360 in sales near the end of their cycle? Also, PS4 is still crushing Xbox 1… just saying.
Lol the PS4 came out a year later at a much higher price and sold more than the 360 year aftervyear
I owned both so I don’t really care and I own both now while Microsoft is continually wiped from the face of the earth with its sh!t sales. I just know the faults in Microsoft never including blu-ray and opting for…wait for it….HD DVD player lmao
They did so because to have used a blu-ray drive in the 360 would have meant paying licensing fees for every console to Sony. MS made a smart business move and it paid off.
Unfortunately for MS, with the current gen systems, their decision making has not been as good, and they’ve been playing catch-up to Sony ever since the consoles were announced.
I own a 360/XB1, PS4, and a Wii/Wii U, so my loyalties lie strictly with the games. I do wish Nintendo could pull themselves together and release a thoroughly modern console that can go toe to toe with not just what’s or now, but what will be out in the next 3 – 5 years.

Go home Sony, you’re drunk.
