It’s been a year since the last time we asked which carrier you are using for your mobile phone needs, so it’s time to update our numbers.
Last year, the majority of voters were rocking Verizon, with Big Red capturing nearly 60% of the vote. Following Verizon was T-Mobile at 20%, then AT&T with 9%. Sprint, which got less votes than the total of “Prepaid or Other,” had 3% of the vote.
This time, to get a sense of which prepaid options people are using, we have included the names of the top US prepaid carriers, so let us know exactly who you are using.
Extra credit if you feel like telling us how you think your carrier is performing.
Where’s my project fi option?
Has anyone tried using project fi in other phones? It works in my verizon iphone 5s not sure if i’m the only one.
Project Fi
I would have thought Project Fi would warrant a choice – I guess Other will have to do.
15 years on att to Cricket in January and am saving about $75 a month with more data (I know slower data). Happy enough. Also use a Sprint hotspot for the house after dumping Comcast and am happy there just streaming everything and OTA saving another $35 or so. again lower speeds but its a hot spot so that has its perks as well.
Google Fi for almost a year now, and happy enough. I love that I get to see EXACTLY what I pay for. Bills have been $30-40 per month, and I can handle the minor annoyances of a few dropped calls or intermittent service. Verizon has a better network here in SoCal, but they pulled too many bait & switches & random additional fees on my parents’ family plan over the years that I’ll never go back.
Would prefer to be on Verizon but they have terrible coverage in my part of the state. The local town council wont let them put an antenna on top of the water tower because AT&T’s is already there. Thats why I’m on Straight talk with an AT&T SIM.
No Project-Fi for Google Apps users
For the areas I frequent both Verizon and T-Mobile are best.

AT&T has been great for me for years. No problems with the network and I can use unlocked phones. I really like those Cricket commercials, though.
Ting wireless for me
Project Fi since November like so many others. But when the Note 7 releases my wife and I will be going to Tmobile and will have 2-4 family members join us so each couple pays between $60-$75 for 6GB of data each. Project Fi wasn’t perfect (weird waiting for calls to connect; first call people couldn’t hear me and then i’d have to call back; at the start the handoffs between tmobile and sprint were bad, now they are much better) but it was great considering each of our bills were between $26-$40.
The only real downside to me is that you can only choose between 3 phones. And at the beginning we liked our Nexus 6P’s but as time went on, the camera sucked and the UI would freeze at times. We’ve missed SO MANY shots of our toddlers because the camera would randomly take 15 seconds to load up. Then it would go back to being instant when we didn’t need it. I actually REALLY look forward to Samsung’s Touchwiz and all the great software they bake into the Note 7. (i know that’s blasphemous here amongst all you Nexus nerds).
If Project Fi ever opened up to Samsung phones i would be back in a heartbeat. I went from Verizon UDP using up to 400gb a month (one month to redownload my entire Steam library) to Project Fi using under 1gb and it wasn’t hard at all. Once you get super fast home internet, using maps and checking facebook at random times when away from home does not take much data at all.
So if anyone comes up with a way to put Note 7 on Fi, PLEASE let me know 🙂 otherwise i’ll happy move to a network that i can choose a ton of phones and is a great performer.
I have to say that I’ve never heard of the camera app not launch on a 6P. I’ve certainly not had that happen. Double tap the powerbutton for the camera was a great addition to the nexus this year.
I have Project Fi as well, I have had it for over a year now and I will not be looking back.
Republic Wireless
ATT 5 lines $220 unlimited data each line!!
T-Mobile. On their 2 lines, unlimited everything, $100 plan. Moto X Pure (3rd gen).
I have droid Turbo 2. Verizon.. I like Motorola now
I’ve been on fi since February and I couldn’t be happier. My average bill is $50 which is saving me $40 from my T-Mo bill. I dropped Verizon years ago because I didn’t like the way they operated. Now if only I could get Google Fiber I would be set.
GiffGaff
Verizon. I have the 24GB plan @ $110 minus my 22% discount from work. Bill is like $180-$185 for 4 phones. No contracts and no device payments, 3 of us buy iPhones straight from Apple and the other has an old Moto X. About $42 a piece before tax, can’t really beat it in my opinion.
It’s worth noting that every other carrier where I live (Northern Michigan) is hot garbage, so I’m kinda forced to have Verizon but I feel like the price is right.
Verizon is not trust worthy. 2011 I accepted unlimited data plan. No changes were allowed including updating my contract. Now month to month for years. Verizon says they can drop me any time they want with the FCC’S blessing.
Cricket now, since Verizon’s killing my unlimited plans.
so, Cricket has unlimited high speed data? cool sign me up for unlimited LTE!
Yep, 70 a month. Max speed of 8 mbps on LTE, 4 mbps on 3G, though, no tethering, and a lot of other little caveats.
That’s not too bad then
<<o. ★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★::::::!fn648m:….,…..
Cricket… mm coverage is alright, it’s better than Tmo in my experience (S. California). I couldn’t handel Tmo’s poor coverage. Cricket throttles but it’s not too bad.. pay $45 after taxes. only got Cricket cause their bands/frequencies are versatile and is better than Tmo… don’t love Cricket but they’re cheaper than At&t…
T-Mo !
Using ‘Lycamobile’
Other- republic wireless! Can’t beat the price, and not bad on the coverage.
<<o. ★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★✫★★::::::!fn240m:….,……
I’m serious why didn’t they include Project Fi? Been rocking it for the last 4 months and loving it.
Other: Project fi
I just switched to Project Fi at the beginning of July. So far, I’m very pleased.
No Google Fi, what the heck
Verizon user here. If you look at the Facebook comments for each company, Verizon’s comments are about price and feeling ripped off. With the new plans they are getting comparable to T Mobile. If you are clinging onto unlimited (like myself), you really end up paying an arm and leg. The main complaint with T Mobile is still drop calls, connectivity, and service. If you watch a lot of Pokemon Go videos, people complain about connection issues because of T Mobile.
Fi network has outstanding service and is very cheap.
Really? An Android-based site, and Google’s own Fi is relegated to “Other?”
Well, this site was originally a Verizon Droid oriented site and hence attracted mostly Verizon customers. It’s still true today. That’s why the poll results are skewed from the actual national numbers.
I was with Big Red when I first came here a several years ago, then T-mo, then Fi
Verizon rocking the unlimited data those of you saying we will lose it.. I highly doubt it.. just don’t be a douche-nozzle and use 100gb or more. Verizon is doing everything right.. I have used no more than 50gb in a bill cycle and am perfectly fine paying the extra $20 a month for it.. I will also say I have worked hard to keep it
Easy as Fi!
I had a feeling this website was filled with mainly vzw customers (including myself)
it was originally created for the Droid phones, which were only on Verizon. thats why most of us are on it.
T-Mobile for me, and I honestly never thought I’d get this service, ever. All I would ever hear was that it was crappy service and crappier customer care. When I moved to San Diego, I had to think about money, and decided to get T-Mobile, and it had been phenomenal there. I had to move back to LA and realized that the service here is also amazing. I left Verizon, no issues with service, but its god-awfully expensive. No ragrets.
I’m rocking FI ? coverage is decent especially after they partnered with US Cellular. Tho full use on WiFi is awesome
Wow, cricket is ahead of sprint. I am also on cricket, their price is the most affordable with the amount of data.
They have great plans and prices. And using att network gives better coverage and speeds than most sprint users.
I am running Cricket and absolutely love it. My family and I pay $120 a month and have 15 gig of data (2@2.5 gig and 2@5 gig each). The coverage and speeds are both great.
Ported from Sprint to Cricket about 2.5 weeks ago. Made the right decision. Paying $20 less and getting better coverage. I’m getting LTE in areas where I got barely usable 3G with Sprint.
I’m with Telus in Canada and am quite happy with their network and service
Straight talk on Verizon 45 unlimited no problems.
I have been with cricket for almost 4 years now, started with AIO. Very happy with coverage , price and speed. But the customer support is non existence. I would rather stab my eyeballs out than talk to those morons.
I was on big red(to pricey) then T-Mobile(coverage was crap outside the city) and now I’m on at&t and couldn’t be more happier. Unlimited data so I never have to worry about going over and I’ve used 56 gigs by myself with not throttling. My note 5 on it helps as well. I miss binge on but with unlimited I do the same thing but with LTE quality.
I just switched back to Verizon after being on T-Mobile since the release of the Nexus 4. The coverage is awesome.
I just moved from Verizon to t-mobile after 10 years. So far so good. We’ll see.
No Project Fi?
Verizon, Unlimited and use 15-20GB per month so I’ve got a ways to go before they kick me off it. Wife also has unlimited but uses less than 2GB which is a damn shame.
I’m the same as you except wife is tiered now with 2gb. I’m the only one who still has unlimited and I used about the data 15-20gb too! But since wife is tiered I transfer my upgrade to her then a few months later her upgrade comes up and I upgrade her like normal but then take the new phone. I’ll do this as long as I can!
Been on Tmo for a couple years now, and brought my wife over a few months ago. Unlimited data is awesome and coverage is great where I live. Recently went to Canada and was able to roam on the networks up their for no additional fees. I’ve have to say I’m enjoying their service and network.
I’m switching to cricket once I pay off my device. Verizon is too damn expensive.
Explains the Verizon orientation of the site.
The outcome is sad anyway..
On Verizon with 2 udp plans. Haven’t had any major issues. My neighborhood seems to be a black hole for a signal. Usually only get 1 or 2 bars. Luckily my work routinely gets 4 or 5.
I got my first phone, Startec, through Airtouch, and continued to be loyal VZW customer until early this year. (that’s 20 years) Now I’m a happy T-Mo customer.
Only time I miss VZW is when I’m in a desert or mountain area, though.
Switched to Fi a few months ago. Works well for the amount of small amount of data i have been using lately. Integration with my pc when it comes to phone calls is nice and easy and I am on the PC most of the day.
On “Droid” life Verizon will always win these polls… For obvious reasons.
Poorly on Verizon. But coverage is spotty with everyone at my home unfortunately.
Been with Verizon since 2010. Honestly, they haven’t treated me badly at all. My plan is still my plan from 2010, and aside from the $20 increase on my unlimited data plan, which is actually $10 more since they STILL allowed it to be discounted because of the discount I get through work, not much has changed. I live in the Midwest, and originally had Sprint since I was 17 since they were pretty solid here, but once Verizon started acquiring regional carries like Cellular One and Alltel, it quickly trumped it and that’s kind of how it’s been all these years.
AT&T, T-Mobile (who still doesn’t offer full service where I live), they all just couldn’t give me the same consistent service I see with Verizon, and I’ve traveled everywhere. New York, Texas, California, and most of the states between, the only carrier that’s always allowed me to have 3G/LTE service has been Verizon. It’s for that reason I’m still with them. The unlimited plan and discount doesn’t hurt either…
Why no Fi? I’ve been using Project Fi for almost a year and absolutely love it.
Second that, would of figured they would include that as an option.
With Verizon UDP. Suprised not to see at&t in 2nd place.
The top 5 wireless telecommunications facilities-based service providers by subscriber count in the United States are:
Verizon Wireless: 141.4 million (Q1 2016)
AT&T Mobility: 131.8 million (Q2 2016)
T-Mobile US: 67.4 million (Q2 2016)
Sprint Corporation: 59.5 million (Q2 2016)
U.S. Cellular: 4.9 million (Q1 2016)
T-Mo, $120 family plan, 4 lines with 10GB each. It’s a bit more than I want to pay, and we never use anywhere near that much data due to all of the things that no longer need it (may as well be unlimited for what we use it for). We’re pretty happy overall.
I’ve been using Cricket Wireless for a couple of years now. 20GB @ $55 a month.
Other: Project Fi. It’s been awesome so far.
Cricket, unlimited for $65 flat…can’t beat it. BUT, I am about to give big magenta another try with a note 7 pre-order, as soon as it comes up.
Rocking Project Fi.
T-Mobile, loving it, unlimited LTE too.
Switched to Tmo a few months ago. One of the better decisions I made in my life. I have never used my phone for anything other than a phone and way to surf the internet before Tmo.
I’m in this camp. Prior to about 2-3 years ago, I don’t think T-mo’s coverage in my area was quite up to par with Verizon – now, I get faster speeds and save $100/month from what I was paying with Verizon. And the ability to obtain a wider variety of devices with GSM SIM is just the cherry on top.
100$ a month, that’s as much as my motorcycle payment
Did you buy the motorcycle after you were clinically diagnosed with micropenis
What sort of speeds to you get with T-mobile?
Speedtest average down is about 30-35MBps, with spikes of high 50s-low 60s, up is usually in the low 20s. With Verizon I couldn’t crack 20MBps down to save my life.
What carrier were you on where you weren’t able to use your phone besides for calls/texts?
I have Verizon Wireless. I still feel like they have the best coverage over everyone else, but the performance of their network is not as good as the power, stability, and capacity that T-Mobile is deploying. They badly need to upgrade their network to the newest technologies, repurpose all the old 2G/3G towers over to LTE towers. Verizon used to be on the cutting edge, but they sitting back and crossing their arms like we are better than everyone else. The reality is that when T-Mobile gets 75% of the coverage of Verizon I’m going to make the jump. Verizon is way too much about screwing people with overpriced plans and not embracing early upgrades through device leasing is just ignorant on their part. Listen to what the people want and stop trying to nickle and dime people, Big Red.
Agree. The speeds and reliability the past few years really has dropped. For all of the alleged money they pump into their network, it seems to have stalled. When they 1st went LTE was huge upgrades, now seems their network cant handle the load.
That’s why they are going to the testing phase for 5G. Personally can’t complain because they have really done good at giving perks to stay with them.
Testing phase or not, they will all be moving to 5g. If the transition from 3g-4g is any indication of how 4g-5g will be, holding off won’t be a bad thing. I remember the days of awful battery life with the early 4g lte devices, hopefully isn’t the same growing pains with 5g devices.
I’m there with you. Laughable to remember the thunderbolt, bionic and galaxy nexus.
Ah the thunderbolt. I remember I had the huge battery pack on it and still would be lucky to get 4 hours out of it. My how the times have changed lol.
I kinda wanna insert a half hearted, “how dare you.” I loved my Bionic. It was 1 of only 2 phones I really enjoyed owning. The other being my current MXPE.
Lol! Yeah had the bionic for 2-3 months. Then was glad to see it go for the g-nexus. Glad the newer phones have improved so much!
T-Mobile cant afford 5G. They spent all the money on Kim Kardashian and drake super bowl commercials, free frosties, free dominoes pizza. and they spend it on that big mouthed CEO and spent it on illegally prioritizing internet traffic in violation of net neutrality.
Lol. T-MO has $$ and apparently it will be more efficient and allow more to use the same bandwidth, so would be beneficial to transition to that network. I guess we will see if they “can’t afford it.”
they burned the money they made from AT&T not buying them (att agreed to pay them if the deal fell through) then they went hand in hand with sprint to the US government asking if sprint could buy them out. Government said no. I would say that’s NOT indicative of a company with money. The real reason they don’t put up more towers and grow their coverage is they don’t have money. Its going to be sad when they go bust. What is Legere going to cuss about then?
I agree with you. I made the switch to T-Mobile about 4 months ago and I don’t notice the difference between Verizon in my area much. I live in Jersey and T-Mobile is great here. I am surprised just how much T-Mobile has improved. I recently traveled to Toronto and Cancun and had 4G there as well and no worries about roaming which was great. I love the selection of all this unlocked phones that I can use now as well.
Well here in the Mid-West, T-Mo has not expanded their coverage in 15 years, all the same black holes still exist and if I leave a major highway not in a large populous their is no coverage. Nor is their any on state highways.
I’m not a Verizon fanboy. But they have converted most all the cell towers to LTE. That’s why they have the largest 4g network. Their issue is with capacity. A lot of people are on their network and it becomes slow. Especially when you are in an area where there is a crowd (I.e concerts) it’s horrible. I still have UDP in contract for $30 till Nov 17. Then I’m switching.
I switched to Verizon from AT&T last year. I have yet to have issues in major crowd environments (e.g. football games, baseball games) but always had an issue with AT&T. I am in Texas in a very pro-AT&T area, so maybe that’s to my advantage 😉
Agree. Phone becomes all but unusable when in a concert/sporting event venue. Coverage doesn’t mean anything when they cant handle the capacity.
Verizon, but currently looking to drop them like a bad habit due to their forcing people out of the “grandfathered” unlimited plans
Check out Cricket, solid coverage and for most much cheaper than verizon.
I have one phone on Verizon and one on T-Mobile. Coverage for both is pretty great in So Cal.
Have att for phones and a t-mobile tablet line. Att’s coverage/speed is top notch for me and t-mo is decent as well. No sprint or Verizon coverage where I live.
I still see very Verizon Oriented. Then Again this site was a verizon website when it started, Been on here since the beginning. T-Mobile life for me now though.
Former Verizon $100 single line unlimited data/text/450 mins. Now $150 4 lines Tmobile unlimited data/text/talk. Geeeezuz.
Dont get me wrong verizon service and 4g was top notch, I was die hard verizon unlimited fan. but the savings here outweigh everything else. and tmobile isnt all that bad in Los Angeles county. AND AND…. unlimited effin phones to choose from! yea, i dont mind at all. lol.
I left Verizon and their ULD in favor of Cricket when the first round of ULD price hikes started. Cricket has been wonderful. Great coverage at less than half the price I was paying at Verizon. They even have an unlimited plan now. I don’t notice the speed cap…ever. The only thing I dislike about it is that the indoor coverage was better on Verizon.
I’ve had multiple lines on Verizon, and now have 5 lines on Cricket for $100 per month. 2.5GB on each line, and nobody goes over. Why would I ever switch back?
How come you only paying 100 dollars?
Because of multi-line discounts. They’re each on the $40 plan, line 1 is $40, line 2 is $30 ($10 discount), line 3 is $20 ($20 discount), line 4 is $10 ($30 discount), line 5 is free ($40 discount).
1 line = $40
2 lines = $70
3 lines = $90
4 lines = $100
5 lines = $100
Left verizon for cricket when I got sick of verizon phones :-/
The extremely limited phone selection was a factor for me too. I considered doing the Best Buy trick to extend my contract instead of leaving, but I was fed up with the phone selection. All the decent phones on Verizon are huge (except the Galaxy S7, but I can’t do Samsung with their backwards buttons and bloated skin). Now I’m rocking a Z3 compact on Cricket, and hopefully I can continue to use it for a while, because nothing small enough for me seems to exist anymore.
One thing about Cricket that always bugs me, mms never seems to work (on any phone) while I’m connected to wifi. Going to give tmobile another chance with the note 7 for that reason alone.
Works fine on my parents phones. (they are cricket branded so maybe that is why)
May have something to do with it, only cricket phone I’ve ever had was the s6, briefly, but can’t remember if it was a problem with that too or not.
Anyway, strange, doesn’t matter what wifi or phone im on, wifi enabled, MMS errors, disable wifi, they come in.
As for apps, tried messenger, default sms apps, my sms and Textra…same with all.
Try this. https://m.reddit.com/r/NoContract/comments/3paxri/another_day_with_cricket_wireless_mms/
MMS on cricket is problematic, yeah. Luckily I don’t really use MMS at all.
I left Verizon for cricket and have better interior coverage. Now I’m one of those people who say I can’t believe I waited so many years to do this.
Lucky you to have better indoor coverage when mine is worse! For example only Verizon got reception in the garage of my apartment building. Small price to pay IMO.
I didn’t think it was possible till I experienced it. I always assumed Verizon would be better. I guess it just goes to show that each carrier has their strong geographic regions.
Great service with T-Mobile though some of the Verizon tactics are irritating.
Sprint. In the Midwest, where they are based, their speeds are good in the city. Data outside city limits still sucks. However I have unlimited data and I’m happy enough with it.
Verizon. Where I live Verizon easily has the best coverage. It’s not the cheapest.
Verizon ULD, out of contract for almost a year now. Took the $20 increase in stride. No cut off letter…..yet. With VZW for many. many. years.
I had US Cellular but got a job in Tacoma…took my s6 edge plus to Cricket. I couldn’t be happier!! My data works everywhere now.
I feel like everytime theres a slow news day, we get these useless polls.
And worthless people writing useless comments.
No Viva Móvil option???
Isn’t that the J-Ho network?
yup.
Cricket Wireless, switched from T-Mobile when they killed my corporate discount and became ~20 per month more expensive than Cricket for less data and coverage.
I went from AT&T to Cricket and saved myself about $25 a month for the same service.
Cricket Wireless and very happy with it, switched from T-Mobile when they killed my corporate discount and became ~20 per month more expensive than Cricket for less data and coverage.
Came here to vote Project Fi. reluctantly had to vote Other… But I can see Other is not in last place.
I’m on Verizon but I will be getting Project Fi to try when the new Nexus comes out. I’m not leaving Verizon though because I’m gonna be using Verizon’s data for my Fi phone.
Just a word of caution… If you mean to say you’ll be switching sims back and forth, it really messed up my VZ line. For example, i lost hd calling and there was “no way to get it back.” (not making that up).
Oh no not that, but I know what you mean on the HD calling sim situation.
I’m going to use my XPE on Verizon and the Nexus on Fi. Then I’ll use the hotspot on my XPE for data for the Nexus.
There is a way if it is a Nexus—-factory image restore.
Wife and I are on T-mobile $100 unlimited plan. I love it because I also have 14gigs of tethering which I use when I’m studying at the beach and need to access my online homework. I left Verizon a couple years back when I got my Nexus 6.
Fi and loving it!
Still on Sprint. Considering switching, since my speeds over the last few months have been atrociously bad in my home city. Like, I measured it a few days ago at .25mbps down. I suspect some of their towers went down or have been pulled down during all of the recent construction/storms, pushing the traffic to fewer already-overloaded towers. Right now I’m considering a switch to VZW prepaid – I’d miss the unlimited data, but at least I could actually use my data, instead of being stuck with pre-3G speeds for no discernible reason.
Verizon prepaid has unlimited data now (it is throttled, but you wouldn’t have to worry about overages)
With greedy Verizon, will be with them until they let me keep my unlimited data..
Brother and I on Verizon (only until contract runs out) switched parents to cricket and got their first smartphones. Going to all be on Cricket once our contract runs out. Similar coverage to Verizon for much less. Not to mention being able to use whatever phone I want and not the ones verizon allows.
Verizon. Good reliability. Terribly expensive.
Other – Project Fi since March, couldn’t be happier.
Same. Fi, March. Never looked back.
Been on Fi since last November, it has been awesome! Can’t believe the money we’ve already saved and the service has been great. I was worried after leaving the big V after 12 years…
Couldn’t? Nowhere to improve?
yep, it’s great!
Just switched to AT&T after ditching VZW. I’m loving the coverage here in Seattle, much much better than what Verizon was offering.
As long as coverage is similar in your area (talking to the general “you”, not you specifically), I feel AT&T has become a better option than Verizon now that their overall reliability is on par with Verizon, mainly due to the technology behind their network. The occasional fallback to HSPA+ on AT&T doesn’t cripple you like falling back to 3G on Verizon can. You also won’t drop your VoLTE call or lose voice+data like Verizon. AT&T’s HSPA+ coverage is as widespread as Verizon’s 3G coverage and as fast as LTE in some places.
Switched to TMo about 6 months ago. Call quality is great. I live in the Balt/Wash megaopolis and I’m surprised at areas where I lose connectivity. It’s not as good as Verizon, but it’s good enough and I’ve got four lines for the same money I was spending on two with verizon. Customer service is pleasant and quick. Free pizza was cool the other week. Unlimited Pokemon Go data is cool. The binge on features are good when you have little ones streaming YouTube like there’s no tomorrow. I’m satisfied.
My son and I are on AT&T. My wife and other son just left Verizon, and joined Project Fi. (I hope that was the right choice for them. Find out soon enough)
People like to bash VZW (me included), but I stick with them and their excellent coverage. I just came back from Mexico and was able to use my plan as if I were in the US. I know AT&T and T-Mo have been doing this for a while, but it’s nice to finally be able to take advantage of it on VZW. The LTE speeds down there were pretty decent.
I’m on the XL plan too and I went to Mexico last month. It was great. And the data speeds there were actually nice. Faster than my 3G speeds that’s for sure. And now with Rollover Data!? That’s just awesome.
Like millions of others in the last 2 years I moved to Tmo from Verizon (with them since they began). I’ve also enlightened family members and friends who are all, now, also with Tmo. They’re the best (in my area)!
Verizon and, yes, they’re terrific. And if i finally lose my unlimited one day, so be it. I’ve been getting data at a tremendous discount for years. Never expected it to last forever.
“One day” is coming before the end of the year most likely, if not before the end of the quarter. 🙁
I contacted the FCC and Verizon said they are leaving my lines be. I just let them know you play games there will be a lawsuit.
Lol it’s just phone lines…relax. much bigger issues in this world.
A lawsuit YOU WILL LOOSE. I cant say that enough. you have no rights, your lines are not in the middle of a contract and if they were they can just waive the ETF. you wouldn’t get a settlement as they give a written warning. I can guarantee their suits asked their lawyers how to do this, the lawyers looked it up and down and told them how. If they don’t want you having unlimited data there is absolutely nothing you can do.
But why fight it? At&t brought back unlimted, and nationwide their speeds average faster than Verizon.
Interesting. Not exactly sure what your lawsuit would be founded on, since you are no longer in any sort of contractual agreement with Verizon. But, hey, if it works, more power to you.
shut up, you probably won’t lose it the unl data but you just want people to feel sorry for you and make yourself look like a bad ass unlimited data
Cricket Wireless on that sweet unlimited data plan. Yum!
Yuck.. Left over data.. Not for me.
Leftover data?
He’s probably used to a limited rollover plan. I’m pretty sure it didn’t know that there’s truly unlimited on Cricket.
2nd or 3rd priority after art post paid and may be prepaid also.. That’s why you have more latency on cricket.
Don’t care about more latency as I’ve never run into any issues with my service or using apps that could be affected by latency issues. Honestly, there’s no better deal available in the US .
Actually latency is because they use a proxy server. It is still the same data.
On month three of Project Fi. I don’t use much data, so financially this makes the most sense for me. I was worried about coverage but have been pleasantly surprised. I haven’t noticed any significant coverage gaps vs AT&T and Verizon which I’ve used previously. Sometimes if I’m in a low signal area though, the phone (6P) does take a little while searching for which network to use – it actually has a different signal indicator in the notification bar when it’s looking for signal.
Overall, I’m happy with Fi and sticking with it for the time being. If I need to switch for some reason, the $40 AT&T prepaid plan is the next best thing for me (and not much more expensive).
Just switched to T-Mobile this week. Saving $130 a month and no coverage issues in Central NY 🙂
No Project FI option?
I guess that will classify as Other this time around.
I was expecting the option too. I’m assuming most of “other” is probably project Fi.
Save the 3% that represent “Tin Can with String”
I’m surprised by this as well. An Android site that doesn’t have Project Fi listed in a carrier poll?

Are you using project fi? I ordered the sim awhile back. But forgot it was limited to the motos an Nexus, so couldn’t use it
I do use project fi. My bill averages $40 a month, and I have yet to find a place where I do not have service.
Apparently they’re not in the know about this
I just signed on with Project Fi about a week ago after Verizon announced they would drop UDPs. I am extremely pleased with my decision.
If you use enough data for the unlimited plan to matter then Fi is really expensive. Sprint you can get 25 gigs for 75 dollars, that would cost you 270 on Project Fi.
I was going to say the exact same thing about the cost of data on fi if you’re a heavy user.
I was using it as my only means of connection, using the hotspot to stream Netflix and such. I switched to Project Fi and got Comcast for inhome Internet and I’m still saving money. Plus I got a sweet Nexus 6p.
I signed up for Project fi and kept it for a while … but it didn’t seem to offer any real benefit besides being able to make and receive phones calls from your computer if you too lazy to pick up your phone. Consequently you also have to change a setting on and off to make sure calls come only through the carrier when you leave your computer.
There are apps that allow you to to receive and respond to texts. Windows 10 will natively have this function in august.
Eventually I got tired of constantly watching how much data I was using.
Switched over to Tmobile Prepaid. Get 3GB of data. Free music streaming which is mostly what I do. And free Pokemon Go data. I also get wifi calling similar to Project fi if I have a tmobile branded phone. This was the better deal to me.
I use Fi (beneficial since I avg .5GB) and considered trying out T-Mobile. The problem is their WI coverage is pitiful. More of the state is not covered than is. They definitely have tempting plans but unfortunately more generous service doesn’t mean much when your phone can’t access it. Fi just added US Cellular (huge in WI) which sealed it in for me as a great option.
I tried but couldn’t vote for all of T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular. Fi FTW!
Project Fi here as well.
They need something measurable.
I’m surprised by this as well. I have both Verizon and Project Fi, so I would have liked to vote for both
same here
Seriously. Come on, guys….
I’ve been reading through the comments and I’m surprised at all the praise Fi has gotten. I hated it when I was on it. I gave up my $70 unlimited plan with T-Mobile to move over to it since I thought it would be better financially and quality wise, especially since I’m a huge fan of Google. When I’m on the freeway, it would constantly have trouble switching networks and take at least 5 minutes to find one. The speeds are limited to less than half the bandwidth of standard subscribers for the tower they are one, and it’s very difficult to stay under $70 without living at home or work with WiFi.
I tried switching back to T-Mobile, but was surprised at their increase to $95 for the unlimited plan. Luckily I had a friend who had an open line for an unlimited AT&T plan (yuck!) for $60 so I jumped on. I was surprised with a text notification just over 2 weeks in about hitting 16.5GB and that at 22GB I would lose 4G. Their speeds finally rival T-Mobile, I’ll give them that (I hit 90 Mbps a couple of times).
I wish I never got curious with Fi and kept T-Mobile, they’ve always been great for me (As long as I’m not on some highway out in the boonies). Fi has a long way to go for coverage with the bugs I saw, it was really annoying to not be able to use the phone for anything when it was trying to lock onto a network, I did love the ability to talk on WiFi and seamlessly go back onto a network without noticing.
I would have contacted T-Mobile customer support, depending on how long you had been with Fi. They’ve been really accommodating when I had circumstances arise with various things like that. I wouldn’t be surprised if they could have restored your old rate, again depending on how long you were with them the first time and how long you were gone.
Fi is definitely not for people that use considerable amounts of data and they’re not shy about it. They intentionally go after the low-data-usage crowd and there’s a big one at that. Just browse the FB of a service such as Republic. An incredible amount of people out there don’t need much data at all and are tired of having to pay flat-rate prices for data they don’t need and never use. I was one of them which is why I praise Fi. I’d never try to get everyone to switch because some people need the coverage of Verizon or the high data allotments on T-Mobile. Different circumstances for different people… media consumption levels, WiFi availability, network coverage, etc. It’s no wonder there’s a market out there for people who use little data and like a smaller bill because of it. I could get mine even lower with Republic but Fi has US Cellular coverage which is worth the difference in WI. It’s the same reason I don’t go prepaid T-Mobile with a similar bill. Their network is still severely lacking in WI.
As a 1 to 2 gig a month user, so project Fi looks interesting to me. AT&T’s cost, their lack of updates to Galaxy phones and their bloatware have sent me running for a better option.
I really want a Nexus when the next gen is release. Fi seems like a smart option for me but I have never seen a statement that the Fi users/phones are limited to half the bandwidth of standard subscribers. Is that confirmed? That Fi users over Tmobile/sprint will only get half bandwidth? Where can I learn more about that?
Thanks
that’s my usage plus the international is great. very happy with FI. left T-mo but if Fi went away, I’d go back
Totally right.
Other, Project Fi
I feel really bad for a large percentage of you.
Something something Verizon sucks something something best network coverage.
Actually it would be:
Verizon sucks Verizon sucks something something Verizon sucks Verizon sucks same network coverage.
Blood-sucking, money-grubbers should be in there somewhere, too.
Good point. Fixes it.
Verizon – For those of you who like to use your phones indoors or in remote areas.
T-mobile – For those who are in major metro areas and use wifi calling indoors.
I feel really bad for anybody that feels really bad for others because of the carrier they’ve chosen. 😉
I just find it sad when people waste money like that.
A blanket generalization that anybody *not* using T-Mobile is wasting money is a pretty big logical jump!
I never said that and you shouldn’t make assumptions. It makes an ass of you and umption.
You feel really bad for a large percentage of us. You backed that up with the qualifier that “us” is defined as people wasting money. From my perspective, you’re the one making the assumption. So if we’re both making assumptions, the question is, which one of us is Umption? (sorry, couldn’t resist :P)
Anyone spending more than they should for the same service they can get someplace else is wasting money. I never specified who or on what. I include internet, wireless, tv or any other utility in that. I never made an assumption of anything, umption.
T-mobile is pathetic indoors, my coleuge won’t even get 1 bar signal, he goes outside to talk..
Yes yes and Verizon gives you 15 bars as well as 12G in the same location along with service in space and at the bottom of the ocean.
Does he/she have a new phone with band 12. If not, that is probably why. Tmo has a lot of band 12 working these days. It took a while to get rid of the tv channels on the same band.
