Best Buy Slips Details of ASUS Chromebook Flip 2, Unveiling Likely Set for CES

Best Buy beat ASUS to the punch this week, posting up details of the upcoming Chromebook Flip 2, a sequel to the original Chromebook Flip. Likely scheduled to debut at CES next week, the Flip 2 looks like a very nice successor to one of ASUS’s more popular Chrome OS options.

Before being pulled on Best Buy, the listing detailed a 12.5″ Full HD touchscreen, Intel 4405Y processor, 4GB RAM, plus 32GB of eMMC flash memory. However, that RAM and storage option appears to only be for the entry model, with another possible model sporting 8GB RAM and 64GB of storage.

On top of that, the specs include an aluminum chassis, 2 USB Type-C ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports, HDMI output, microSD card support, a backlit keyboard, plus a headphone/microphone combo jack.

For pricing, it is reported that the 4GB RAM model will start at $499, while the 8GB model is possibly priced at $599. Until ASUS announces official details, though, we’ll just pencil that in.

As a new MacBook Pro owner, I have to say, I’m pissed that this Chromebook has more I/O than Apple’s latest laptop made for professional use. While I can expect better performance from the MacBook Pro, naturally, that SD support would have been nice.

  • I’d love to see an upgraded option of this with a 2 or 4k display, an i5, and 128gb of storage, but I’m just dreaming with that.

  • I recall the Newegg listing showed an Intel m3 processor – disappointed to see the Pentium in here. I hope the Samsung Chromebook Pro does get released and has a better processor (it also has a better screen and stylus). The Rockchip in the current flip is pretty dang slow, but they need to give me more performance for me to whip out 5 franklins.

    • i have the m3-6Y30 in my new Zenbook Flip – see below. the chip has plenty of power and it runs really very cool and quiet (fan-less). i love it.

    • Intel 4405Y processor = 1.5 Ghz processioning power. A bit under powered especially if you plan on running Android apps and games using the flip touchscreen I think.

I’d hope chromebooks would be having at least 2.0-2.3 Ghz in processing speeds in this day and age.

    • Yeah… but yours comes with the pernicious MS virus installed. I, for one, would rather stick a metal fork in an electrical outlet than use Windows 10 every day.

  • out of my surface book, macbook pro, imac and c720p, I usually grab my Chromebook first. love these for what they are. I hate the prices are slowly coming up….but I get it, they are getting popular so why not improve upon them? will be buying this badboy!

    • Prices should not be rising so fast, the technology is getting cheaper and cheaper. Not to mention they’re still pushing 1080 panels as “high end” for a Chromebook. The panel is probably the highest price component on any decent laptop, and they all pretty much suck on Chromebooks (with a couple exceptions).

The Nexus 10 had a 2K panel four years ago. Four years ago.

      • Google is paying 97$ per hour! Work for few hours and have longer with friends & family! !mj102d:
On tuesday I got a great new Land Rover Range Rover from having earned $8752 this last four weeks.. Its the most-financialy rewarding I’ve had.. It sounds unbelievable but you wont forgive yourself if you don’t check it

  • Apart from that high price, this sounds like the perfect successor to the Flip. One of the best parts about the original Flip was the low price. Even the 4GB RAM model was less than $300. It would have been nice to see them at least keep the entry level version around $350 or $400.

  • “Basic dual-core processor boosts multitasking capabilities for reliable Internet browsing, e-mail and everyday productivity.”

Because that’s all somebody wants to hear when spending $600 lol

  • I mean, sure it has more ports than a MacBook, but uh, what are they for? Just cause you slap on some holes doesn’t make them more useful.

  • Sounds like a bad ass machine actually. That price though… I say 100 bucks cheaper and it be the right price on both models

      • Sure, and I’ll pay for a full Windows device, or stick with my iPad Pro, which does a heck of a lot more than my chromebook.

        • You’ll pay $1000 for an iPad pro that literally does the same or less, sans keyboard, ports? Yeah, OK.

          • I didn’t pay that much, have you checked prices? I don’t think you have. I also didn’t say the 12″ version.

          • What do you need the screen size for on a chromebook? YouTube videos?
I’ll take something way more powerful, better battery life, higher resolution, better app support, runs Microsoft Office/Drive/Apples suite of office apps, continued support and updates, better build quality, and much more for the same price or cheaper <$499

          • Don’t know for sure, but I imagine this Asus Chromebook will ship with Android Apps active, so it will run Word, Excel, etc.

          • Yeah, no one likes larger screens. People hate their Samsung Notes. Apple has been praised for refusing to produce larger devices. Netflix looks awful on anything larger than an 9.7 inch iPad. Larger screens are the worst.

          • What crawled up your ass today buddy? Man, reading your responses. You’ve been triggered and it’s not pretty. Go sit somewhere that doesn’t involve in front of a screen.

          • Haha, yeah, because hurting you was what I was trying to do. Go crawl back into whatever hole you came out of lol

          • I thought the iPad Pro was only available in a 12″ model and it was just the regular iPad that was available in 9″.

        • What kind of retard thinks a restrictive phone OS can do as much as ChromeOS/Linux or Windows?

        • Tired of these cheap ass Android lovers. A high end smartphone can go for $750+ and this at $599 with 8Gb of ram is “too expensive”. That doesn’t add up.

          • Dude I bought 3 pixels at full price and own tons of gadgets. Not a cheap ass but I do look at over all value when I purchase something. Chromebooks IMO are not there yet.

          • Then why not say that instead of complaining about the price? The price is fair for the hardware.

          • Hardware means nothing with out the software to back it up. Chromebook is almost there but not yet

          • When you start getting into the $500 range and up, a small, sleek Windows ultrabook or 2-in-1 like what Gekko mentions above is the way to go.

          • A lot of people probably feel like me on the idea of Windows 2-in-1’s. No apps in the Windows Store makes me feel like the touchscreen is pointless. This might not be as great for productivity as a true Windows machine, but at least will have SOME app selection as a touchscreen device.

          • I mean, he could just be speaking to his own budget. Maybe it’s priced too high for him at the moment?

          • So RAM is the only thing worth paying for? Personally, I’d pay more for the portability of a smartphone than I would for two more GBs of RAM that probably wouldn’t be used anyway.

    • I agree. $100 overpriced across the board. On the other hand, I still think that Chromebooks are essentially pointless devices and spending more than $300 on one is insane.
