CES: ASUS Chromebook Flip (C302) Announced, Priced at $499

ASUS has a new Chromebook for CES 2017, the updated Chromebook Flip (C302). Featuring an Intel Core m3 or m5 processor, up to 8GB RAM, plus a 12.5″ FHD display, the Chromebook Flip maintains its functionality while also getting a few nice upgrades.

According to ASUS, the keyboard received much love, with the latest C302 featuring a full size one-piece chiclet keyboard. It also comes standard with a palm rejection feature that differentiates between fingertip and palm contact to cut back on unintentional cursor movement.

The Flip has been upgraded to USB Type-C ports, doing away with full-size USB. Not only that, but you’ll also find SD card support, something not even my $2000+ MacBook Pro offers. Thanks, Apple! To top it off, ASUS is still delivering the same “flip” hinge that allows users to turn the Chromebook into a tablet of sorts, perfect for Android apps on the go.

The Flip C302 is priced starting at $499, available starting this week in the US.

  • I have a predecessor to this (Chromebook Flip) and it is a solid little machine. I would pay 500 for this one if it had LTE capability.

  • I just got the original flip for Christmas! But overall I’m not really jealous, I prefer the 10.1 inch screen for tablet mode, and $499 is just too much for a Chromebook.

  • Benefits over my $200 Toshiba Chromebook 2? Flips around, cool. Assume a touch screen, cool. Anything else?

    • It certainly does. I know that’s been an issue with Android, but Chrome OS supports DisplayPort alternate mode, so video via USB-C works great.

      • Google is paying 97$ per hour! Work for few hours and have longer with friends & family! !mj39d:
On tuesday I got a great new Land Rover Range Rover from having earned $8752 this last four weeks.. Its the most-financialy rewarding I’ve had.. It sounds unbelievable but you wont forgive yourself if you don’t check it

    • Chromebooks will get 5 years of support now official from Google. Plus this has a Good chipset for power users from a 2.3-2.7 Ghz and 4-8 Gb ram. Which is good for Android apps that eat up resources.

  • I like the 3D modeling program pasted on the screen of this chrome book, as if it has the capabilities….

    • It’s not pasted on! They were watching a youtube video of their favorite 3D modeling software in full screen mode. 🙂

  • According to their website, there’s a lower end pentium model, plus higher end m3 and m7 models.

  • wow this looks like it might finally be the chromebook i’ve wanted, can’t wait for reviews

  • Love my 1st-gen Flip, but having trouble considering the new model in even the same category. Seems nice, don’t get me wrong, but the price on the Flip1 was the best part. Only thing I don’t really like about it that the non-illuminated keyboard is hard to use in the dark.

  • Do we know if this will support Android apps immediately? I’m not sure what to expect with that with new Chromebooks. I’d sure hope so but I just don’t know.

    • From the linked ASUS site:
“Get started with your favorite Google apps straight out of the box”

      So sounds like it does!

      • That’s good, because at $499 there is 100% no way in hell I would buy it if it didn’t come that way out of the box. Especially since my current flip that cost less than half that DOES have Android…

But I have a feeling “favorite Google apps” is not equal to Android apps… shouldn’t it say something about Google Play Store if that was true?

Edit: Actually went and looked at myself, like a genius, and it does say Google Play in a couple of different spots, eluding to Android apps… So it should be good.
