Here’s the Top Half of the LG G6

If there’s one company that can never seem to keep its excitement bottled up, it would be LG. Whenever there’s a a big announcement coming up, they always have to talk about aspects of the upcoming thing, such as the display it will feature or camera. Point being, LG cannot wait for MWC to arrive, with what appears to be an official image of the device now making the rounds.

In this image distributed to The Verge, LG has obviously been taking design notes. According to the source, the device will indeed sport a 5.7″ display with 18:9 aspect ratio (2:1 for math peeps), plus a 90% screen-to-bezel ratio. That’s almost Mi Mix level, folks.

Additionally, it is reported that the G6 will feature a headphone jack (no courage!), be made completely of metal and glass, feature LG’s dual-camera system on the backside, rear-facing fingerprint reader, and no removable battery. That last part will undoubtedly irritate a few LG fans.

Look over the image and then share your hot take below.

  • My G3 is almost 2years old. I bought a battery for nothing, never used it, guess i dont use my phone much as others do, but its starting to slow down at times. I really like a water proof design is way better, cant wait for the new G6

    • Youll be lucky to get 6 hours of screen on time especially on their new power draining screen…well see.

  • Now, let’s take this same design language and put it on the V30 BUT keep the removable battery. Add to that wireless charging and a 6.3″ OLED screen or whatever size that would be with an equal amount of screen to surface ratio and a camera to rival Samsung and LG would finally have a solid 1-2 punch in their smartphone lineup, something they haven’t had since the days of the G2 and Optimus G Pro.

  • well that sort of sucks. i know the 821 is a great chip. its blazing fast in my pixel xl. but if i were to buy a new phone, i’d want the latest chip out…i think a lot of people do. I mean, I can open things fractions of a second faster in my pixel xl compared to my 6P. but that matters to everyone, right? come on now

    • Not trash, just old. Same with Skylake CPU’s, you wouldn’t want to buy a brand new PC today if it has Skylake instead of Kaby Lake.

I mean, you can, but honestly if it’s not much cheaper you’re just being a bad consumer.

        • Someone who buy something just because it’s a specific brand that they like and don’t look at options, someone who buys something just because of marketing and not doing their own research, someone who doesn’t take into consideration of what their needs are and just buys the most expensive option etc. The list could be endless.

  • Somewhat promising looking. I’d prefer volume keys on the right side with the power.
Somehow I doubt it’ll have an identical speaker on the bottom bezel, but we can hope.
    Likely no wireless charging.
I like the less width of the new 2:1 aspect ratio, so even though it’ll mean “black bars” when watching 16×9 video, I’m open to it.
Overall I’m cautiously optimistic, with reservations, especially about LG’s skin.
If it has a Snap821 instead of the not yet released 835 I don’t see this as a very big deal. It can be priced lower for one thing. And it’s hardly as if the 821 is “old”. It’s still the top available, so who cares if there’s a bit better one in a couple more months.

Biggest selling point will be if they engineer a decent battery into the thing. We know it is totally possible to do while remaining thing: See Zenfone 3 Zoom. Needs 4Ah MINIMUM, 4.5Ah even better. Then they’ll have my attention.

  • If it wasn’t for the amazing software from my Pixel XL, I would gave sold this thing. I can’t understand why Google didn’t pick a better design. I would have liked the HTC U than my boring phone. I do like that in May of this year, hopefully I can download developer edition of new Android.

    • When I first saw the pic in the article, the first thing I thought was it looks like the Pixel (at least the portion they’re showing us). It’s got the rounded edges, the antenna lines, the only difference I can see is the side buttons are different and it has 1/16-1/8″ less bezel. Otherwise, again from what we can see here, it looks a lot like the Pixel.

  • LG G6 5.7 inches 2.55 inches wide
    LG G2 5.2 inches 2.55 inches wide
    LG G4 5.5 inches 2.7 inches wide
    LG v10/v20 5.7 inches 2.79 inches wide
LG G6 should be at least 6 inches to match G4 width at 18:9.

  • I have the LG G5 and was considering the G6, then you said non removable battery. It’s going to have to be a really big battery for me to move away from removable……

  • Just read a news from AP saying that LG won’t be using the new Snap 835 chipset in G6, because of Samsung’s S8.
Don’t LG has their own CPU called Nuclun? Why not use this?

    • Or why doesn’t Samsung run their own chips like they did during the S6/Note5 model run? They’ve already proven it will work in the US, so why do they need to hog all of the 835s?

      • Because some markets like America refuses to get rid of CDMA. That’s why you can’t have the Exynos version everywhere.

        • Then what was in the S6 and Note5? And for the record, America is getting rid of CDMA, but you don’t just drop a major network overnight, unless you want a ton of angry customers who’s phones no longer work.

          • I think they licensed the Qualcomm radio for those models. I don’t think they are doing that anymore because it costs too much.

  • Doesn’t matter. There’s always a laundry list of issues with LG. Screen bleed, unresponsive touch screens, phantom touches, squishy buttons, etc. I want to cheer for them. But their track record is rough.

Before everyone starts pissing all over my comment, great, you like LG. Yours never had these problems. Whatever. Google “problems with LG _______” and you’ll find more than enough evidence.

  • Actually happy about the non removable battery, since LG has been excusing their small battery sizes with the fact that they are removable. Needs to be at least 3,800, but hopefully 4,000 mAh plus.

    • I actually love the removable battery with my G4. With the extra battery and charging cradle, I’m never tethered to a charger when I want to use my phone. Just change out the batteries when it gets low. That will be one thing I would miss if I get the G6.

  • G6 looks nice if that picture is real but if the body of the phone is over 6.1″, I won’t buy one.

  • Looks nice, like the direction the bezels are going, but screen too small. need at least a 6″ at that aspect ratio and small bezels for me to consider, especially coming from a N6.

  • Looks good. Hopefully it gets a decent size battery. I’m sure that’ll make it a little more enticing for many.

  • Seems we’re about to enter the long-term golden age of smartphones: huge screens in small, sturdy packages. My S7 Edge was the first phone to give me a totally-satisfied feeling (even though it’s not perfect, poor battery life and TouchWiz). We’re about to see even better, and from multiple vendors. This G6 looks a beaut, and could even be my next daily (software- and screen-depending, as I’m still a little jaded from by G3 days). ‘Tis a great time to be a phonehead.

      • Me too. I keep it in power saving mode and the battery life is incredible without performance really taking a hit.

      • Yeah, a lot of people say that. I must be doing something wrong, although I’ve poked around and can’t figure out what it is. On the rare days when I barely use it I go from 8AM to about 5PM down 50-60%. That’s pretty darn poor. And if I use it at all heavily, it’s tapping out by afternoon.

        • Well, the top three battery drainers are (in this order): screen, cell signal, cpu background processing

If you’re using max brightness, turn it down a little
If you live/work somewhere with poor reception, that’s the most likely reason
If you have rogue apps running in background needlessly, that’s it.

In the third case, you’ll need a battery monitor app to find out what app is it. I recommend GSAM battery monitor.

  • I feel like I’m the only one that never had a single issue with their G3 & G4 phones. By far my favorites. Couldn’t get on board with the G5 though. ROcking a Nexus 6P, till I make up my mind. Probably will just hold off for a 2nd gen Pixel.

    • My G3 is just starting to get a bit flaky on me now, after having it for 2.5 years. I’m going to factory reset it soon, then hope I like what I see this year. Loved the camera, swappable batteries, screen to bezel ratio. I was all set to get a Note 7 and something came up that weekend, and before long well… you know.

  • Looks like there won’t be an 835 according to an article from Forbes today. Just the 821. Samsung will apparently have first dibs on the S8…. Which apparently launches on April 14

  • I’m liking the push to shrink bezels. Hopefully the phones are still usable without accidental screen touches all over the place. Hoping for positive feedback!

  • If only they got rid of their terrible UI, and stopped making me look at them like Samsung’s slightly less attractive, loud friend that doesn’t have a boyfriend, but has all kinds of advice to offer up on your situation.

    • So what is so bad about the UI? I had a G2 and a G4 as a backup and other than the notifications I have no issues with the UI. What is it that everyone doesn’t like?

          • I hear you, and I did so but that wasn’t enough. I honestly can’t recall the specifics much at this point, other than that it was the worst thing about the phone.

    • and same with you. what you talking about!!! LG has the best UI. Can make it look 95% stock but still have the features of a skin. You know features that real world people need. Stick Android is for jobless and kids.

you Skin detractors need to stop. You really don’t know what your talking about. I listened to you guys and now i have stock android and can’t wait to get the next phone that comes out. I don’t know why you guys think it’s cool or something to say “stock android” but it’s not. It really isn’t. In fact if you use a phone for more than texting you would realize how stupid your statements are. Stop following the bandwagon.

    • I’m on the LG V10 and their UI is good, even great. I never felt the need to install Nova Launcher, except I sometimes miss being able to resize widgets to exactly the size I want.

    • I enjoyed my G3 for quite a long time – the display didn’t really bother me at the time like it does now. G4/G5 is when I lost interest in LG.

    • Seriously 3 years and 3 models alter? Did the G3 screw your wife? Um no. Get over yourself.

      • This along with the unusual heating issue. I couldn’t use it to navigate because it would overheat and shut down. Bad phone, SAD!

    • what you talkin about. G3 was great. So wasn’t the 4. And the 5 was great too. People that say the 5 sucked didn’t have one.

  • I like what I’m seeing. Only thing that can make the front better is no LG logo, but I get a feeling that isn’t happening.

  • Finally LG listens. I remember years ago when I worked for LG after the G2 I told them this design concept would build on the G2….But no they had to fumble around for 3 more models before listening to the whole US full of reps that said customers wanted this.

  • Ayy, finally made a phone with good materials. Got one thing good going for it at least

  • Finally phone styles I have been craving. If the battery can stand up to a full day with 3-4 hour SoT I’m sold no matter the brand.

    • 3-4?….you can get that with any 2016 device. That’s barely scraping by. What do you get now?

  • It actually looks good. The question is, will the display & camera be up to par with Sammy’s; and by up to par I mean REALLY up to par not just settle for.

    • That’s my concern as well. They got the bezels down, but that doesn’t mean much if the thing inside the bezels doesn’t cut it.

    • LG camera are on the top…in some situationes samsung outperforms LG and in some LG outperforms samsung in camera..but i do like those wide angle shots from LG.

      • Wide angle shots yea but everything else, nah. I take pics from my phone & look at them on my PC & with the exception of the 1020, Samsung images look the best.

    • [almost] everything looks good on companies’ marketing photos. Real-life photos is what matters.;)

    • why is the sd821 such a bad thing? your average customer walking into a brick/mortar cares more about the cover of the book than what’s inside. my z3c has sd801 and it still gets the job done today. Also, it appears Sammy is snapping up the SD835’s and LG needs to beat the S8 to market for a chance at grabbing some market share.

        • I agree, no need to wait for G6 as the market has alternatives, but that doesn’t mean the G6 is DOA b/c of the SD821 (it would be DOA for other reasons…. too late the game & looks like a S8 knockoff for example).

          • I think this is my biggest beef with it. Looks like an s7/s8. the 821 isnt a deal breaker, its a hell of a chip. But If LG prices it like it has an 835, they are gonna have some trouble, at least from techies. The average consumer wont care, BUT…. the sales people will use it as a “you dont want this one cause its slower”…. thing and this could end up biting LG in the a$$.

        • Because people don’t buy phones because of the chip!! it’s probably the last feature people buy a phone for. come on!! Every chip the past few years has been the “next best thing”. meaning they are all good enough that it’s not that big of a deal

you LG haters kill me. One of the best phone makers out there and for some reason you guys do nothing but bash them. I’m not even a LG lover but i have to defend them from you guys all the time.

      • If I didn’t just pick up the G5, I would probably pick one of these up. As it stands ill probably pick up the V30 next Christmas.
