The engineering team behind Android O announced they are doing an AMA on reddit this week, set to kick off on Wednesday (July 19) at 12PM PST (3PM EST). Even though the AMA hasn’t started yet, the team does confirm that a new developer preview of Android O is coming soon soon and that the public release is still happening “later this summer.”
While you’re allowed to ask anything you want during an AMA, the team seems to only want to focus on the development and engineering aspect of Android O. I mean, they are engineers after all, so that makes sense.
This your chance to ask us technical questions related to the latest features specifically in Android O — from the APIs and SDK. Please note that we want to keep the conversation focused strictly on the engineering of the platform.
Once the AMA takes place, we’ll collect the good stuff and share it with you all.
How about, why can’t you make Hangouts the default messaging, voice chat, and video chat app and do away with Duo and Allo because they’re not nearly as good, and also bring back the blob-emojis!!!
It’s the moment to tell them all our hate to the new Android O emojis.
Is anybody else having battery issues with the pixel XL dp3?
What’s with the continuing abandonment of Wireless Charging on Google’s part? They got us hooked on it with the Nexus 4, 5 and 6, and then what – they want us to buy Samsung phones now?
Someone needs to ask if they’re noting feedback on the Ambient Display changes. Not liking its current form.
Looking Forward to a Unified messaging app; Like Hangouts or iMessage.
Personally, I don’t use the Eff’Book Messenger app, Much. I Try to Not use it Often!!
Also, I’d Really Love an app that will Utilize the Rounded Edges of my GS7E. Do something similar for the Pixel 2!?
Just submitted this ahead of time:
What (if anything) will be done to address the deplorable state of Android messaging?
In order to keep in touch with all my friends and family and clients, I currently have the following SIX (6) apps installed:
* Default Messaging App (varies by phone): Since Google Took away Hangouts default status, and I need a way to get carrier texts.
* Hangouts (for Google Voice SMS/MMS messaging on 2 different numbers/accounts) – Why sell us all on committing to a once great product, and then slowly stripping it of functionality?
* Google Voice (to use with my stock dialer app with my personal GV number, because Hangouts dialer is generally terrible)
* Hangouts Dialer (to use for my work GV number and to differentiate which number is being called for incoming)
* Facebook Messenger – By far the most capable of the bunch, and the closest thing to iMessage on Android. If only it had GV support, I wouldn’t need anything else. I’m giving praise to a Facebook product here over everything else. #Sad
* What’sApp – For a handful of messaging snob friends who I unfortunately like and won’t use regular SMS/MMS.
* BONUS: Allo/Duo – Uninstalled immediately upon phone setup. WHY Are these half baked products even a THING? AND WHY are they not ONE app? AND WHY no SMS support. WHAT ARE YOU DOING, GOOGLE????

I just have one question: Where the f***k is DP4? It’s past mid july and no signs of it.
I want to know if Android O on my Nexus Player will get better. I’m surprised a July update hasn’t been released yet.
