US Unlocked ASUS ZenFone AR Also Now Available, Starts at $599

Because not everyone in the US is a customer of Verizon, ASUS went ahead and released an unlocked model of the ZenFone AR this morning. The unlocked unit can be found at Amazon for now and it starts at $599.

This version of the phone is a dual SIM model that features the same QHD display, 3-camera setup, 3300mAh battery, and Snapdragon 821 processor. Yes, it also works with Google’s Tango and Daydream. It is not a CDMA phone, though, so you’ll only get connectivity on GSM networks like AT&T and T-Mobile in the US.

At $599, you’ll get the ZenFone AR with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. If you need more RAM and storage, you can jump up to the $699 model that has 8GB and 128GB, respectively.

Kellen

It’s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but that’s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • At least if it had a Snap 835 it would be not terrible battery life w/ only 3.3Ah. But this with Snap 821 is completely unacceptable. Needs 835 and a 5Ah battery and I’d be interested. Heck give me any flagship with those specs and I’ll be interested.

  • Missing bands 17 and 30 which for me are the AT&T 4G LTE bands in Honolulu. I wish listings on Amazon would be more complete. Saying a phone is AT&T compatible doesn’t mean anything if it doesn’t support the AT&T bands where you live.

  • I am not seeing anything in the specs that tells me that this is not the international version. FWIW, the international version doesn’t support bands 12 & 13 (700MHz range), so this phone could be a sleeper if you have TMobile or Verizon.

  • 5.7″ 16:9 with capacitive buttons and a home button/FPS? And 6/64 or 8/128GB? Wow, might be the sleeper hit of the year for those who don’t care about updates & wireless charging. A shame about the 821 but Samsung, Lenovo & LG are still probably gobbling up most of the 835 supply.

    • i would like it to have Wireless charging, but yeah, everything else is awesome. It is about the size/shape of the glorious Note 4 with a front FPS (which I prefer) and solid specs

  • i hope you all review this.. while I dont care so much about AR, i do like a 5.7 inch screen that is 16:9 and has a FPS on the front. Looks like an old Note
