Verizon pushed a batch of updates to some of its older Samsung devices as we ride off into the weekend. The Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note Edge are all receiving new builds that welcome in security patches.
For new software versions, you’ll see G900VVRU2DQF2 on the Galaxy S5, N910VVRS2CQE1 on the Galaxy Note 4, and N915VVRU2CQF2 on the Galaxy Note Edge.
And the changelog for each says the following:
- Android® security patches and bug fixes.
- Resolved a ring-back tone issue on calls to non-Verizon phones.
- Fixed an issue where some users reported difficulty making calls to non-Verizon customers.
I just received this update and now I am having graphics problems. When I go to websites such as TMZ, RadarOnline, and Drudge Report, the photos are correct, but the text size is miniature and is barely readable even if I enlarge it as big as it will allow. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas how to fix it? Your help is appreciated.
It may be something regarding critical flaw from WIFI SoC vulnerability.
It is actually good to see S5 get such update, but I hate the idea carriers have so much control over Android updates. I have T-Mobile, vulnerable phone and no hope for a fix.
Due to carrier restrictions, I think carriers should be liable for leaving exposed flaws if they are patched by OEM.
….and broken.
I’m sure these are the last updates these devices get.
I’m pessimistic. There’s gotta be some Verizon-centric reason they patched the S5. Granted, it’s one of my favorite Samsungs. I just don’t see Verizon doing much for it nowadays that isn’t in their benefit.
Seems the “Resolved a ring-back tone issue on calls to non-Verizon phones.”
“Fixed an issue where some users reported difficulty making calls to non-Verizon customers.”
Issues are pretty serious and would be something they wanted to fix.
Fair enough.
I know tons of people still using the S5 as their primaty device. They still sold ’em well into the S6 era. Samsung has honestly done a good job with security updates for the S5, Note 4 and newer devices in unlocked form.
Maybe a lot of people are still using the s5 on Verizon? It’s still a very decent phone.
