Android O is officially Android Oreo, which is fun and all, but we really all just want to know when it’s coming to our Nexus and Pixel phones, right? We’ve got news on that front!
According to Google, it’s coming soon. I know, I know, that’s not what you were looking for. With that said, Google did say that Android Oreo (Android 8.0) will hit AOSP today. For Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel C, and Nexus Player, it’s coming “soon.” Again, that’s not specific enough, I get it!
How about this – Google says that Android Oreo builds for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P are all in the carrier testing phase, so it actually shouldn’t be long. That “soon” could very well turn into, “a few weeks” for all we know.
I wish we had more specific info, but Google isn’t quite ready to give up that.
Come on…..Verizon. You’ve bee doing a very good with updating the Pixel. Don’t let me down 🙂
I just got another 950 mb update on Pixel XL
Anyone who updates to O release can you check something for me?
Can you look and see if you can set “disable absolute volume” from within the developer options and make it stick? AKA leave the developer options and go back in and its still on?
There is a longstanding bluetooth bug that is only fixed by this but they have only had it so it could be set in the beta versions, the permissions are broken for it in the release versions.
Im running the beta and I am afraid to go to release because it would break my bluetooth audio if I cant set that setting.
I can confirm for you that at least on my 6p, it sticks after leaving and returning. Even did a reboot and it sticks.
Thanks. I finally pulled the trigger after yours and lakerh8rs comment. Works for me too.
Only a year and a half but thankfully I have drama free bluetooth streaming in my car again.
Also, to note, if your receiver supports aptx make sure and delete and re-pair it so your phone asks you to enable aptx.
So for those of you on the beta. is it official 8.0 you are reciving, or a beta still?
Anyone else OTA stuck on step 2?
I’m stuck on step 1. :/
What the hell is “soon”?? hours? Days? Weeks? The next Solar eclipse is “soon”……..in 6 years………………
Now I guess since I got the OTA.
MOST STUPID LAUNCH EVER
Why because Google didn’t personally call you?
I WISH they’d call me!
No, it was stupid because I just sat and watched a 30 second video of a crappy statue get awkwardly unveiled by people who didn’t know what they were doing…….. I’ve seen children open boxes with more excitement and skill than the fools “opened’ the statue today.
When Google started ballin he was young…..
No Xposed, no care. #xposedmasterrace
Exactly.
Nexus 6P installing Oreo now from Beta. 36.5MB
Same here 5x beta
Should I enroll in the beta so I can get Oreo official?
I just enrolled in the beta and I instantly received the 8.0 update notification. 951.2MB for Pixel XL
Is it the final release or DP4?
Final release I believe https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/43250a3b9342a1ccf92ee270fcacaca65851cc450e961a1f5f7fe51a986513de.png
Looks official to me, thanks!
why is one update 950mb and the other for the XL is only 65mb………….?
I think the 65mb update is for people that were on a beta version of O. I’m coming from August 7.1.2
They were enrolled in the Beta program and were already running some variant of Android O beta
Just got my 65 mb update on Pixel XL from the original beta.
I got it on Pixel C
Same here 5x beta
Update rolling out now for me
I just got the OTA on my Pixel XL. I am in the O beta though. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f2a9d0b58ec341149633bbfbdda50ebe1a623d436e9b86d2044368f4fff60c79.png
Ditto on my 6P – was also on the beta. 6P comes in at 36.5MB

Got my update on the 6p at 3:20 PM EST. Beta tester here as well. 46.4 MB in size.

I don’t understand why they release a new version like this without the new hardware. The new Pixel phones should be the first to have Oreo. Very lame way for Google to do this. We should be getting the new phones the day Oreo is release…
“The new Pixel phones should be the first to have Oreo”
Well the Dev Preview has been out since earlier this year so technically, the new Pixels wouldn’t be the first to run Oreo.
The final build. You know exactly what I meant…
So what? We’ll get both in a timely manner, that’s all I could ask for.
Quite possibly the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard… since when is new hardware supposed to be released with new software? Just because Google released phones alongside a new version of Android, it doesn’t mean it’s some requirement or even necessary… Google also released Nougat for several phones last year.
It’s what they always did in the past. They built their own Nexus line as a hardware example for other OEM’s and they were used to introduce the new software. They continue to do this with the Pixel line, but could now care less about showing off the latest software on their vision of Android hardware. It was much better the old way, with older Nexus/Pixel phones getting updates soon after. And as far as it being “the dumbest thing you heard”… Whatever troll
Why even start a hypebeast if they weren’t ready to deliver? Google’s been making some rather suspect decisions as of late.
Pretty sure this is the way Google’s always done it. Or at least the ways it’s been done the last several times.
Anti-climactic to say the least. All the hype for a name when in the end it wasn’t what we all wanted. More BS from Google.
What did we all want?
I wonder if it will have a “South of the Border” flavor to it.
“Taco flavor kisses”?
