Tim

Stumbling upon Droid Life randomly after purchasing a Motorola DROID in late 2009, then setting out to learn everything he could about Android, Tim quickly became an integral part of the site's comment section. After quite some time of strictly commenting on Droid Life, Tim was offered an opportunity to write feature stories for the site, such as custom ROM overviews, as well as interviews with Android community members. Following success of those, Tim became a full time writer and editor for Droid Life, now spending his time on news articles, device reviews, producing videos, and much more. Tim currently resides in Portland, OR with his longtime girlfriend and two wonderful dog children (Loki & Thor). In his spare time, Tim enjoys playing guitar, drinking coffee, practicing photography, and destroying kids on Call of Duty.

  • The same thing went on with the V20 and it drove me nuts!
Didn’t end up getting mine until the 18 of December and i still embraced it with open arms while being mad! Here’s the thing, some people will get turned away and some will stick around and wait for the V30, but at the end of the day it will still sale millions of them. Why? Because everything else is pretty much the same! The iPhone X will move tremendous amounts due to the new design. The Note 8 will do well because of its S Pen crowd. And the Pixel Xl due to its new design running stock Android. The V30 followers that love the manual controls for Photography, Videography and Quad Dac lovers as well as its new design.
We all have said it time and time again, but as you see they aren’t that concerned about it. Because they know people are still going to buy it including me.

  • If they stick to the $699 price point that the T&C’s of their contest had, then I think this will be it for me. But I’m getting more and more curious about what Google is going to offer with the Pixel. If they would’ve done what Apple did and let pre-orders start a week later or whatever and in-store availability a week after that, I’d already have one.

  • I was really hoping for more, like with the G6. They gave away 43″ smart tv’s. I don’t need a tv, but I can sell it. Hard to sell a VR headset.

    • My wife got a Google Home with her Verizon G6. Not thrilled with it so I’ve since bought two Echos which I love.

      • You really like the echo more?? I find it agrivating… you have to say things exactly the way it wants you to. The home has less features out of the box but ifttt takes care of everything I need. And I can set custom triggers and responses (also works on Alexa). Not to mention chromecast, Netflix and google music integration…

  • Pre-orders? Jesus. How about just ORDER. This thing was announced a while ago – LG always does this crap. Haven’t they learned it doesn’t create a rabid interest?

  • Too bad the US unlocked LG V30 will only be GSM. Unlike unlocked Motorola and Samsung phones. One device to work on every network. Disappointing, just like the release of this fantastic phone.

      • I don’t have one but the US Cellular is the same as the unlocked us models and their gsm. Look up g6, v20, g5 etc and you’ll see the unlocked models for the US starts with us9xx and they’re gsm only

        • Fake news, recent unlocked LG devices work on all major US carriers. Includes at least the G5, G6, and V20.

          • My bad I was going off the specs from gsmarena and it said for the US997 that it was GSM only and no CDMA. I just went to LG’s site and it says GSM/LTE/CDMA with these LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/12/13/17/20/25
So my mistake. I’m glad you pointed that out to me. So now I know. That’s freaking awesome. An unlocked LG V30 US998 will be mine. It will also have band 71 for T-Mobile. Saw that in a tweet from @LGmobileUSA

  • Got a great VR free with my S7. It’s been sitting in a drawer. I might have used it 6 times mostly just to let people try it. I think it has some uses but it’s not a deciding factor for me.

The V30 needs to be priced right and advertised. Great device that might be DOA because LG takes a month to release the stupid phone after they announce it.

    • Apple announced the iPhone X earlier this month and it comes out almost two months later. Only difference is people roll buy a lot of them unlike the V30 sadly. I want the V30.

    • Yeah it’s the same for me. I got a Gear VR with my S8 preorder. It’s fun and a novelty, but it’s been sitting in my drawer and I’ve used it perhaps 10 times total.

I’m going with a V30 for sure with the GL Launcher if the Pixel XL is a disappointment (no headphone jack, no wireless charging). I can’t believe that the two phones (V30 and Pixel XL), made by the same company, will be drastically different especially if the Pixel XL is going to be more expensive than the V30. Less features = more money?

      • Not to me. The only thing stock Android does for me is run faster and that’s arguable at this point. I’ve had better performance and battery life out of LG phones over any other.and I get all the features, it’s not missing anything.

  • Daydream VR won’t make me buy this phone. Too bad. I was excited for this phone when it was announced but that’s starting to fade. Since it’s taken them so long, I guess I’ll wait now to see Google’s announcement for the Pixel 2 XL next week.

  • LG f*cked up AGAIN this year. I don’t get what’s going on in those boardroom meetings. No price/date announcements. Nothing.

    • It’s 2017, going into 2018. I can’t believe we have to keep saying this, but:

Do not announce your device if I won’t be able to get it within a reasonable timeframe. I’m not saying everyone can be Apple and get phones on the ground two weeks after they announce them… but that’s what you should be striving for.

    • This never bothers me. The phone will be available when it’s available–barring any unforeseen delays–whether or not they announce just before availability or month or two before. Generally specs and images are going to leak leading up to anouncement anyway, so I would rather they just announce the phone so I don’t have to speculate and i can decide if it’s worth waiting for or not.

      • Google is paying 97$ per hour, with weekly payouts. You can also avail this.
On tuesday I got a great new Land Rover Range Rover from having earned $11752 this last four weeks..with-out any doubt it’s the most-comfortable job I have ever done .. It sounds unbelievable but you wont forgive yourself if you don’t check it

  • Until the announce (or leak) the price, I’m not making a decision one way or the other. It needs to cost significantly less than a Pixel 2 XL to make me go that route.
