Unlocked Moto X4 Picks Up Oreo Update

According to a Senior MotoAgent on Lenovo’s forums, the Moto X4 is now receiving its update to Android Oreo. We’re talking about the unlocked or retail model here, since the Android One version of the X4 already picked up the update a few weeks back.

The Motorola rep noted that the update has started, but that it won’t hit all devices at the same time. Also, carriers are apparently involved, so timing of Oreo update arrival could depend on the carrier you are using your Moto X4 with.

In the Oreo update, you should see new features such as Picture-in-Picture mode for apps like YouTube and Netflix, true system-embedded autofill, limits over background tasks, notification channels and better controls, and more. The full list of Android 8.0 changes is here.

  • For those of you with the Moto X4 with Android One, have you tried to install Moto Voice? I really want this combination in order to get timely updates from Google and for the excellent Motor Voice integration with Ford Sync. Thx.

  • My Android One X4 is doing fine on a Project Fi account; it works very smoothly and fast to my eyes, though I haven’t seen how it might compare to a Pixel. I got the update just after the New Year. After running it as is for a couple of weeks I decided to do a factory reset and noticed that the battery life is noticeably better; with my usage I can charge it to about 85% and get through the day with typically 3-4 hours of screen time, ending up with ~40-30%. Of course YMMV.
