hehe, it says that it checked for update 2 hours ago and found nothing, but when i clicked the button it identified the update. so yes i can confirm that it works, although it should have found it automatically 🙂

Same here. Nexus 6p. It took forever to get the non-beta 8.1, and I’m still on the January security patch. No love for the 6p from Google any more

Ugh, I refuse to run beta software. Guess I’ll have to wait. IDK why they didn’t just push 12 to stable already?
I’m with ya. Until they make Play Services 12 stable I’ll just keep manually flashing the OTAs.
Will be interesting to see when this comes out of beta. Is it possible that Google will keep it attached to beta to reduce the number of people who can hit their update servers at once and because there have occasionally been issues with updates? If we are going to download it right away instead of waiting for their staggered release schedule, then we should be up for a possible beta-like experience?

It did take a long while to install on my Pixel 2 XL for such a small file.
For this first time, mashing the “Check for update” button worked for me. When the March security patch article posted earlier I wasn’t able to grab the update but was able to get the update just now. Pixel 2 XL
Don’t mind me. I’ll just be sitting here on my December security / Nougat Galaxy S8+ 🙁

Worked for me and I’m not on the Play Services beta.
That means your Google Play Service is version 12+
Also, immediately after getting the update, I got a new update for the pixel visual core as well. Nice!
Oh yeah, well after I got the update, and then the visual core update… I got ANOTHER update that made my display bendable!

Works like a charm. If it didn’t work for you and you need to opt in to the play services beta, here you go https://developers.google.com/android/guides/beta-program. Once you opt in, click the link to download the play services beta, seek out and click the magic “check for update” button and bam it’ll download. Thank me later.
for me it works and doesnt work at the same time. I hit the button after a few seconds I got “Security update installing…” and then a few seconds later I get an error saying it cant download the update. Tried it a few times with no luck, keep getting the same error.

How’s the pixel been? Youtube still hasn’t fixed their ratio issues on the tall displays yet?
You can do pinch to zoom in YouTube to have the whole screen filled up if you have a Pixel.
But you lose some of the content of the video when you do that correct?
That’s on every phone. That’s not something Google can fix.
So then why not just stick with the normal aspect ratio that doesn’t have any issues with youtube? So tall screens like that are doomed forever?
There is an adjustment period. Remember, it wasn’t always 16:9.

So with no past info to go on who knows how long this is gonna take. And why can’t google fix it?
Google does not control which aspect ratio people decide to make their videos or movies in. Google can’t control what ratio Samsung, LG, Huawei, OnePlus, etc decide to make their screens. Google wantwa the first OEM to make a phone with this ratio. How can Google fix something they have no control over?
But they own Youtube, so their design team can work how to make that work. plus since the pixel 2 xl has that aspect ratio, they have an in house device to test with.
That’s too much work. They also don’t own movie studios. So, if a movie studio sells a movie that someone can download to their phone who would be responsible for that? Google can’t do anything about that. Bottom line is that there is nothing any of us can do but wait and see.
I didn’t think it would be that hard. I guess that is our only option then.

tl;dr; the update button never really worked as you’d expect for years. Then a few months ago, Google said: “it actually works now as soon as you press it.” Then it didn’t cause it broke right after they said it works. Now it works for realsies.

This is the first time for me. I must have had the last update before I got the Google Play Services beta. Yes it works, YES! You do need to know that an update exists, though.
