AT&T’s LG V30 Now Getting Oreo Update Too, Adds ThinQ Features

Following Verizon’s Oreo push to the LG V30, AT&T has stepped in to do the same today. This particular update may one-up Verizon, though, as users are reporting that it includes LG’s new ThinQ branding and software.

AT&T’s LG V30 Oreo update is a big one at around 1.8GB. It includes Android 8.0.0 as well as the March 2018 security patch, according to reddit users.

Once complete, the boot screen changes to show “V30 ThinQ,” plus at least one user said that they have access to LG’s new AI CAM. You may recall that the newly announced LG V30S was unveiled with a lot of ThinQ and AI talk. This is LG’s way of spicing up a 2017 phone with “artificial intelligence” and software enhancements. Since the internals didn’t change much for the V30S, we all assumed that original V30 units would get many of the new features and that is now happening.

To check for the update, head into Settings>Software update.

Kellen

It’s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but that’s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • Come on, TMobile. Usually Verizon is the slowest of the carriers to upgrade their phones and AT&T is the next slowest …. please make this happen soon. :/

  • I am just checking in to say that I was one of the Droid Life winners of the AT&T V30 they gave away last month! I have been really digging the phone… but I am using it on T-mo and am pretty sure I am going to have to do a bit of leg work to get this update – but I am cool with that.

    Thanks again Kellen!

  • I wonder when AT&T was planning to start pushing this to all devices. I didn’t see this post until Thursday morning and hadn’t been told by my phone that it has an update.

  • The point of trebble is that it increases the chances the carrier will update your phone more often and to the newest versions as it requires less work from the manufacturer vs traditional software updates which take longer.

    • What’s the point of Treble? Most people don’t understand you need an unlocked bootloader to do anything with Treble.

You need unlocked bootloader to flash ANY ROMs with Treble. So, no good on most U.S. carrier variants.

And the open market LG US998 with unlocked bootloader already has TWRP, root, custom ROMs.

      • The point of trebble is that it increases the chances the carrier will update your phone more often and to the newest versions as it requires less work from the manufacturer vs traditional software updates which take longer.

        • OK, so you understand then. It just makes updates from OEM/carriers theoretically faster. But too many people think Treble is going to magically let all Androids have custom ROMs. It’s not. Unless you have an unlocked bootloader, in which case you probably already have dev work with a premium phone.

          • It still matters even then because if the locked versions get treble then the unlocked versions will get treble too so that is the reason why people are asking within a general context and not a specific one to this at&t version.

          • Yeah, but on the XDA forums, it’s all the bootloader locked people asking (Canadian LG V30, Indian LG V30+, etc. ) When I point out they STILL need an unlocked bootloader to install a custom ROM with Treble , they go quiet. They bought into the hype you could get an AOSP ROM on “any phone” with Treble. You can’t. ONLY bootloader unlocked phones.

          • That “dev work” shoudl actually make some things a lot easier for devices with less dev support with the hardware API layer. Things like the camera or bluetooth not working won’t be an issue any more, as Treble requires compatibility with AOSP.

        • Carriers make money from selling new devices. They’re not going to support anything past when the manufacturer does anyway. Trebble or not don’t expect more than 2 years. After 2 years they can inform you that you’re eligible for upgrade and make more money….. unless you didn’t buy a newer device to begin with at which point you’re probably not to worried about having the newer software.

    • The V30S offers more RAM, storage and colors. Otherwise, they are virtually the same.

    • Google offering you 98 dollars per hour, additionally, with each week payouts … Anyone can catch this possibility!!!this Thursday I purchased a latest Mercedes-Benz S-class after I been making $19130 past five weeks .without any doubt it is the easiest-work however you may not forgive yourself if you do not take a look at it.!jg77p:➬➬➬ http://GoogleCompanyBestFreelanceInternetJobs/earn/cash/$97/hourly… ★i★s★y★★★y★★★b★c★★★u★j★★h★c★★y★★w★d★★★v★★p★★j★j★d★u★u★★p★★★i★★w★★w★l::::!fh341x:bhbzi
