The Netflix mobile app is getting previews! Well, the iOS version is getting previews right away and the Android version will “soon.” Still, for anyone who has used Netflix over the years and wanted to see clips from a show that looked interesting, we’re almost there.
If you use Netflix on your TV, you’ll know about previews. Netflix introduced them last year as video clips that play as you jump from show to show or movie to movie. Netflix says that these aren’t just trailers and are instead “specially designed video synopses” that give you an overview of each. I don’t really care, I just know that I love them.
On mobile, you’ll get see these Netflix previews vertically, so you can keep browsing as they play without having to turn your phone sideways. You can swipe or tap on your screen to get to the next preview too. If you look at the image at the top of this post, you’ll see what that new Previews section will look like.
We’ll let you know when Previews rollout on Android.

About time, my ps3 has been doing it for awhile its nice because you can check it out without having to start the show. But when you hover over a show you were watching it automatically wants to start the next episode.
Netflix’s genius idea is to brng something the vast majority HATE on their TV to their phones? You know instead of listening to PAYING CUSTOMERS and gettign rid of it on the TV.
I am glad that I recently cancelled my Netflix. 🙂
The auto preview thing on Netflix for home use (roku, android TV, Apple TV, etc) is literally THE WORST feature of any of the streaming services. Yes, all of them, and any feature. It’s anxiety inducing for me. And before all the Bros come in here saying, “turn your volume down/off!”, it’s not that simple. People with children, people with anxiety issues are especially aware of this. Annoying flashing images while trying to navigate or when you simply just want to read about a title, and not have to silence, skip or otherwise deal with a preview. Not to mention the fact that I will rarely choose a title based on a auto preview. I could go on..
Netflix needs to make this optional on all platforms. This is a horrible idea for many reasons.
A little off topic but because iOS is getting another app version sooner than us…does anyone know what happened to dark theme on YouTube for Android???? It came out forever ago on iOS and nothing for us ON GOOGLE’S OWN PLATFORM. I find this ludicrously stupid…like Google is giving a major FU to us that support that software.
No, just no. Hopefully with it being mobile data they will at least offer and off switch?
THIS. That’s going to BURN through some data plans if you aren’t careful. I guess they presume most people are on wifi?
I for one love the video previews, but it looks like I’m the only one.
Complete garbage, if T-Mobile wasn’t paying for it I’d cancel it because of this. I CAN NOT STAND PREVIEWS
I kind of just threw up in my mouth, vertical video, just no.
That crap where if you stop moving through the list it starts PLAYING whatever you’re on? NO NO NO NO!!!!
I’ve seriously considered ditching Netflix because of that I HATE IT HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE IT!!!
NOOOOOO!!!
They need an option to disable that stupid ass annoying STUPID “feature”.
Ugh. No Netflix, just NO!
Kellen, being that you love these, you’re sick, you need to get help…that’s not normal.
Now tell us how you REALLY feel..
I HATE THOSE!!!!
Sorry, still confused as to your feelings on this subject? You like it, I gather?
Just block them
How?
Click/tap the username you want to block. This opens their profile. Click the … menu and choose “X Block User”
Block a user from using Netflix? Umm, though he was referring to blocking the previews.
No no no no no no.
They are a bane on all my other devices and now I’ll have to put up with them on mobile?
Dear Netflix, these video previews actually discourage me from browsing content.
I can’t agree with you more! My Fire TV doesn’t do this, but my Xbox does…and I’ll purposely use the Fire TV to not have these stupid previews play. I thought I was the only one who refuses to browse anything on Netflix because of the stupid previews. There needs to be an option to either turn them off altogether or a button on the content to activate this. I want to read the synopsis and not have that awful preview play. Rant over…
I never browse Netflix on my Apple TV. I’ll either airplay it or use Siri to find something but I have to know it’s on Netflix for that to work
DEAR. GOD. NO.
