So, this is a bit surprising as we head into the weekend, but Verizon is ready to push Android Oreo updates to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
UPDATE: Those who have picked up the update have told us that this is not Oreo and is instead just a security patch. Verizon’s changelogs sure do say Oreo, so I guess they got a little ahead of their own schedule.
UPDATE 4/20: Verizon has now realized that the update is not Oreo and went ahead and pulled that changelog we showed you above. Just a security patch!
9Verizon has dated the updates as being ready on April 18, though I’d imagine they’ll begin rolling out tomorrow April 19. Still, the full changelogs are posted and this sure looks like the real deal.
Verizon says to expect build G930VVRS4BRC3 on the Galaxy S7 and G935VVRS4BRC3 on the Galaxy S7 Edge. They didn’t provide size estimates, but going off of the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 Oreo updates, I’d imagine these will be north of 1GB. Be sure you have plenty of battery and a solid WiFi connection before updating.
What’s new? Oh, the standard Oreo stuff that was announced last August. You’ll get access to Android’s autofill feature for passwords, background limits on running apps, picture-in-picture support for apps like YouTube and Netflix, notification dots, a brand new dialer app, improved keyboard, and more. The list of Android Oreo changes can be found here.
To check for the update, head into Settings>About phone>Software updates>Check for updates.

Curious if anyone else is seeing this when checking for updates on their S7 or S7 Edge on Verizon. I’ve never had an interactive update section, it’s always “no need to update” kinda deal. I thought I did remember hearing awhile back that Google play services was going to provide some sort of new update interface, maybe this is it?

Blue balls, indeed.
Does anyone know if bixby is going to be included in the Oreo update?
The Verizon webpage for S7 updates was updated to remove the Oreo verbiage.
I can’t imagine what oreo is gonna do to the S7

Lol Verizon. Updated post.
What a cruel trick to wake up to. Thanks Verizon
Still nothing other than a security patch….
G930VVRS4BRC3 is a security update and not Oreo.
Just got an update pushed to my Verizon S7 Edge without checking for it, but it said the phone would only take approximately 12 minutes to update. Must be a security patch and not Oreo.
its not Oreo – the Android version is still 7.0 on my Edge S7
Its only a security patch
Downloading now!!!
Edit: looks like it was juat a security update I missed. Thought I was up to date if all of them though. Well I hope it comes tomorrow
