Google has updated the Android Distribution numbers this week, with the major news being… drum roll, please. Oreo has now surpassed 5% of the pie! Woot woot!

To be exact, Oreo (a combination of 8.0 and 8.1 builds) now sits at 5.7%, a massive jump from last month’s 4.6%.

For the other versions, we have Nougat at 31.1%, Marshmallow at 25.5%, Lollipop at 21.4%, KitKat at 10.3%, Jelly Bean at 4.3%, Ice Cream Sandwich at 0.4%, and Gingerbread still hanging on at 0.3%.

  • Has anyone had trouble with their Verizon Note 8 since the Oreo update? I get 6-10 system UI has stopped notices and the phone freezes. Happens on both Notes I have, people can’t hear me. I have to reboot the phone and then it works for a while without issue. Cleared cache, reset the phone, etc… nothing makes it go away permanently.

  • If T-mobile and LG will get their butts in gear it’ll go up. My poor V20… 🙁

  • Interestingly Nougat was at 7% this time last year when Android O (Oreo) was announced at I/O, and Marshmallow was 8% the year before.

I feel this downward trend will continue with phones getting more expensive unless more OEM’s adopt a Pixel model of guaranteeing 3 years of updates.

    • Won’t change these figures with all the cheap phones sold in southeast asia running dated software.

  • Let me know when you want to us just US numbers and not include China, Africa and India which are just bringing down the average

      • It was poorly worded. Essentially he is stating remove the countries where the vast majority of consumers buy sub $100 phones running very dated versions of android.

  • “Hey guys! Oreo hit 5.7%! ”

…aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it’s now gone because .8% of people downloaded the Android P beta

    • Not really. This take into account the super cheap phones sold in poorer countries which ship with really really dated software.
