UPDATE 6/6: Verizon says that it’s ready for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge!
UPDATE 6/18: The update is here for the Moto Z and Moto Z Force too!
If you own a Verizon Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Moto Z DROID, or Moto Z Play phone, Verizon has a message for you:
“We’re planning an Android 8.0 Oreo update for your device…It may take a while, so check back in a few weeks!”
Owners of these devices noticed in recent weeks that Verizon replaced the “System updates” page with that message, giving hope to phone owners that probably weren’t sure if/when their phone may be upgraded to 2017’s big Android version release. And there may be other phones too, but these are the two we keep hearing about the most.
The thing is, we have emails as far back as early April with the “few weeks” timeline. We’re more like 7 weeks into these messages and still no Oreo updates for any of them. We have no idea when any of them will see Oreo. It could be another “few” weeks and then another.
If you are seeing these messages, I can’t say I blame you for getting excited. We’ll certainly let you know when the updates begin.
Cheers Kyle, Adam, Dan, Brent, Galen, Josh, Chris, Robert, Robert, Themik, and everyone else on Twitter!

Oreo is live right now for the Verizon Moto Z (Force DROID)! Downloading it right now!!!
Thousands of S7 owners are about to be the first to get Android 0. Lucky for them.
Seriously I’ve had OREO for months now for my Moto Z2
Get a pixel phone, I’ve had Oreo operating system for a year, now I’ve got P for the last month.
It should be pointed out that there was a snag with the build for this device which was causing issues in other countries. They pulled it for a couple of weeks or thereabouts. That probably has slowed down the rollout here.
I have an unlocked Moto Z and got Oreo OTA about an month ago.
I’ve had Verizon for years and am so fed up with a variety of their practices. Besides nickel and diming you to death with at least 20 bucks in unknown charges and taxes of every kind, I love how a person like me who has been with them so long now has to pay fees like upgrade fees etc for the privilege of them allowing me to buy a phone from them and then activate it…… Or I can just buy one online, unlocked and cheaper, swap my Sim card and give Verizon the virtual finger. Sorry, slightly off topic but all this Verizon talk got me reheated about them.
Meanwhile my OnePlus 3T is on 8.1???? not on Verizon of course!
Join the club! This shell game has happened at Verizon ever since the Droid X! Some things never change. Sit back, it’s gonna be a while!
Glad I sold my moto z play Droid 3 weeks ago. Only wat to get Oreo on Verizon is to replace the phones
Next time buy a Google phone.
FubyHD, besides the Amazon link I posted above, eBay also has the Pixel 2 XL, for around $550……. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_id=114&ipn=icep&toolid=20004&campid=5338199104&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2F64GB-Google-Pixel-2-XL-Just-Black-Verizon-Smartphone-VERY-GOOD-CONDITION%2F123164285272%3Fepid%3D238974361%26hash%3Ditem1cad29d958%3Ag%3AxoIAAOSw0cJbEAjk%3Asc%3AUSPSFirstClass!33145!US!-1
Don’t buy a verizon pixel phone. They try to stop unlocking of bootloader’s. And then you’re sorta stuck a lot more than other pixel owners
Anyone know why we know the current release date for Canada from Samsung but not US?
I will say this, Samsung in particular has a schedule and they stick to it. If you look at pretty much all flagship phones since the S5 they update the second year about 3-6 months before either the new Note or the next S phone is about to release. It’s May and we have heard that the new Note will be coming out early this year so I would expect 8.0 to be released on the S7 by the end of June. Europe already got it, and granted they use the Exynos chip instead of a Snapdragon, it will still most likely release soon after.
The complaint people have about Samsung is not that they don’t release new phones. It’s their “buy a new phone to get the latest Android” strategy. You’ll notice that their phone releases coincide almost identically to the release schedule for new versions of Android. And their stance on this is “Oh you want the latest Android? Buy a new phone.”
This is why I stopped buying Samsung Moto , LG this practice is enough to piss u off
Yeah I have a different message now than the one ahown above, it changed some time this week on my S7E

I have the MotoZ Play and I use cricket, I got the update last week.
Yep… Been getting them on my Moto Z since April… ????
Really? I’ll be one of the first to get it? OMG I’m so fortunate!! Really one of the first???? Oh thank you Verizon! THANK YOU!!!
I’ve had Oreo for a while I don’t think you’re first. Then now I’m on a preview of Android p . First to get it that’s funny
Woosh
i was invited to fill out a survey for something regarding early access about 5 weeks ago and haven’t heard mum since… but i’m not supposed to say anything about it…
I just checked my VZW S7E for the first time since Nougat and my message is slightly different “Android 8.0 Oreo is coming…. You’ll be one of the first to get it!” and in the notification tray, it reads “System updates: Software update planned. Tap for more information.”

I’ve had that for the past two weeks, it’s hard being patient ;(
Don’t cave in don’t buy another phone from verizon the next phones will have these same problems next year. They are holding Oreo ransom to make you sign a device contract. If you can’t wait buy a phone from other than verizon.
Verizon doesn’t do contracts anymore. Quite be bit has changed. They didn’t always lock phones- in fact, they were the only carrier to NOT lock phones until this spring when had to start locking due to all the fraud and such. You get what you pay for. Other carriers aren’t worth it in the long run. None. Often times it’s the USER not CARRIER that disfunction a phone. Always easier to blame someone else than accept responsibility. All good- plenty of love to go around. Refreshing if some could admit they are imperfect and wrong at times.
I’ve got news for you. The Pixel is an Android phone.
Yes. And your point is……
Obviously he missed the crucial “other” keyword. Haha
He said other.
We were just standing there minding our own business when all of a sudden this guy came in rambling on about nothing…
He did say like iPhone users do. He didn’t say the pixel was qn iPhone.
Exactly… I have a Pixel 2 now and get updates like Apple iPhone users do. It’s awesome.
I have the Update to Android P on my Pixel… Your not missing much
I have android p on my essential 🙂 love it
Too bad that’s a dying OEM with a perv for a leader.
Yeah still enjoying updates at least it’s bootloader can be unlocked unlike Verizon phones. Being stuck with outdated stuff. The essential phone is getting 2 years of updates and 3 years up patches. Then the community can continue if they wanted. Project treble is good. Also I’ve had 2 Android p updates this month already
The camera still stinks, the panel has had issues, the weird notch is fugly, and it’s a slippery device. I hate the new glass and ceramic backed phones, and miss the old days where BlackBerry devices had rubberized backs despite feeling very good in the hand. I’m not convinced the fragile new way of doing things is better. Yeah, you got your unlocked bootloader, and the ability to load unsigned operating systems onto it, but I’m not convinced that’s very great when it comes to security and preventing the device from being hacked easily. While that’s probably not something you deem important, it’s why I miss the days of the mighty BlackBerry… Both BlackBerry’s hardware quality and security software was better than modern systems and hardware. I’m not convinced it’s better in that way.
I came from a Moto z play the camera is not bad in the essential it’s the same camera in other phones. If you actually owned the phone you would understand that the camera isn’t the problem it was software related. As far as security look up app flash and you will see an unlocked bootloader is better than Verizon spyware crap that crashes kills and destroyed the phones they preloaded with that crap. As far as your opinion it’s cool but it’s well documented that the camera isn’t a problem anymore. This phone is one of the like 8 part of project trible. And I got this phone for $300 bucks I’m not required to unlock my bootloader to have android p by the way. I ota flashed it. The unlocked bootloader is only good to have as an option down the road for development. Even pixel phones and one plus phones have the option too except the pixel phones on Verizon.
You sound like you don’t know anything anyway. You sound like a TMobile user .
You use Verizon, so it’s understandable you would want the ability to unlock your bootloader. I’m not interested in doing so, and it can compromise security anyways, so again, I’m not interested. There’s more to security than mere app lock, as hardware and software must work together to ensure user security. You got it for much cheaper than its original MSRP so I won’t knock that, but it’s still not a worthwhile phone to me. I wouldn’t even buy it at that price point. It’s just not worth it to me.
You’re the one who picked a terrible device, on a terrible network, so I the feeling about knowledge is mutual.
https://youtu.be/ktl2mLsSq4o ya bunch of Liars spoofing drop tests
A drop test means nothing, as it doesn’t take into account variables in manufacture of the device, the angle that it’s hitting the ground, the imperfections on the ground, the atmospheric pressure, the stresses that the phone experienced before, device imperfections, not using a fresh device for each test case, and not enough data.
Literally the only thing that survived a ton of these drop tests was the back glass but your god of the internet and your have to be right everyone else wrong videos don’t prove nothing since your god
You showed me nothing but anecdotal tests with zero control for the tests. It’s easy for a dumb butt with a microphone and video cam to do a bad test. It’s much harder to actually do a test in a laboratory setting that would actually mean something.
No but the only thing she proved is, that you keep coming back to change her mind. That is all she needs.
Also what are talking about ceramic being weak. Have you not seen the drop tests the cermaic is much more stronger than the apple glass on the Iphones 8 and x phones but okay you’re a dude online you know everything about a phone with out even properly researching anything. But your opinion is better than actual tests and what is really happening.
You obviously don’t understand simple science. The harder a substance is, the more prone to shattering it is. Ceramic is very hard, so it shatters easily. Glass and ceramic are the worst substances that could possibly be used to back a device that gets dropped like mobile phones do. It’s the idiocy of the vendors who push glass and ceramic sandwiches.
https://youtu.be/3AR6u5s-h8s I’ve seen it with my eyes but ya CNET is lies and so is Jerry rig everything
You don’t understand simple science anyways. You watch a bad test that has no scientific backing to it.
A little dated, but it still points out the simple concept you cannot grasp:
https://www.itworld.com/article/2833434/mobile/hardness-is-not-toughness–why-your-phone-s-screen-may-not-scratch–but-will-shatter.html
Yeah, your first essential and last essential phone. That OEM is going out of business. LOL!
My Oneplus 5 is up to date on Android O.
no one asked
Same here on my Galaxy S7
i was invited to fill out a survey for something regarding early access about 5 weeks ago and haven’t heard mum since… but i’m not supposed to say anything about it…
So, is Verizon tired of people with these phones hitting the check for update button?
It’s marketing psychology: If you tell someone they’re going to get something soon and you keep dangling the carrot eventually they’ll get tired of waiting and take action. In this case if you keep telling people a software update for their phone is coming, they’ll get anxious of waiting and call you up to order a new subsidized phone, renewing their contract for another two years.
I agree 100%
This is why I sold my phone and bought an essential phone. There you go Verizon I also upgraded enough to get app flash removed. Even though I pm uninstalled it on my moto z play
