I have no idea if this is the real deal this time, but Verizon has once again posted Android Oreo update details for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. This is the third time they have done this, so approach with caution. However, with AT&T S7 models also said to be receiving the update, we’re optimistic.
UPDATE: It’s rolling out, according to all of the fine folks in the comments!
Verizon says to expect software version G930VVRU4CRE5 for the Galaxy S7 and G935VVRU4CRE5 for the Galaxy S7 Edge.
The update should be large, so make sure you have lots of battery and are on WiFi. Verizon has it dated June 11, which means it could be available right away.
To check, head into Settings>System update.
Just got it today. It drains my battery and takes forever to charge now. Yesterday I could Facebook and charge 30 minutes and gain 50% on my S7. Right now I’m over 2 hours on the charger while facebooking and have only gained 30%. Take it back. I don’t want it.
My S7 updated 2 days ago & I do NOT like this update. For one, It changed all my ringtones & message notification sounds & I cannot change them to anything else. I am stuck with everyone having the same sound (if I even get a sound), as sometimes I get no sound at all. There are no longer any “badges” for missed calls & messages, or anything thing else, for that matter. I am missing my connections because of this. Yes, there are other tones to choose from but, it doesn’t change when I select another tone. I’ve tried through the setting menu AND through the apps themselves w/no luck. I also get Facebook notifications on my home screen even though I have all that turned off. I am seriously thinking about switching to iPhone… I can’t take this. I need my phone back!
Works for me. I was able to upgrade to Oreo finally yesterday .
I’m on ATT and got it tonight. I would recommend you do a cache wipe from recovery screen an hour after getting it. My device was laggy right after the update.
Thank you. That fixed my initial lag.
Grand. My battery is running way hot since installing the update. Lovely.
It pisses me off that Verizon removed oreo wifi option when they updated the LG G6 but left them in the S7.
Last carrier phone for me.
I just got the update for my verizon gs7 edge can anyone tell me if they are having any problems with the 8.0 update. Thank you
All is well! I’ve been running this now since about 11am Monday and it’s Tuesday 12am now and my battery life is doing better than on Nougat! It seems like an extremely stable update and they even included the whole phone maintenance suite which Verizon usually disables but now you can clear memory, clean unused files and free up space, etc. Supposedly Oreo helps put to sleep apps you don’t use as much, perhaps that’s improving my battery life. I’d check it out (if you haven’t already) if I was you, solid update.
Thank you justin for that information I will get it downloaded today I can’t wait to finally have the 8.0 update
I’ve noticed my battery is draining more quickly.
I turn my fast charger off and going to charge it without that on you might want to give that a try and see if that works for you
Try running the device maintenance, it offers the full suite of cleaning options now, Verizon finally allowed it. Clear up memory, clear up unused files to free up space, put to sleep unused apps, update any apps necessary in the playstore and then clear the cache and restart your device, charge your battery full and reboot the device. It may help.
Easiest way to guarantee a Samsung softeuartr
.pdate buy
Just completed the update on two S7 phones. Both phones are now reporting the SD card is corrupt. Grrr.
Will my s7 t mobile get android but in Morocco
Nice update, everything is running smoothly. I’m surprised that Verizon allowed the full device maintenance within the device. Not that I use it much or believe how well it actually works, but they did finally include this. Oh new emoji for those who crave new emoji. The settings menu has been altered a little, most stuff is under the hood tweaks with new api’s and some background app killing.
Are your status indicators for WiFi and cellular signal the same as they were in Nougat or have they changed to the new style like on the S8/S9? Mine look identical to the Nougat ones even though in the Verizon screenshots it looks like the newer style.
Daniel, mine are still the same too, not like the new style unfortunately. How has your phone been running? Mines doing well! Pretty good update so far.
Good to know, thanks for responding! I can’t imagine why they would take them out, I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t some kind of glitch with my phone. Overall the update is great. My phone was getting laggy and unresponsive with Nougat and my battery life was poor, but this update seems to have woken it up. The battery seems to last longer, dragging down the status bar isn’t a stuttering mess anymore, and while they didn’t update the signal strength icons, the other visual enhancements are a welcome change from the old version that was getting a bit stale after 15 months. It gets a ????from me!
No problem bro! Yeah I agree with what you’re saying. It’s a solid update and my phone is running buttery smooth and battery life seems better. ????????????
I’ve been running the update for a few hours now. My first observation would have to be that the phone seems to be running smoother (phone had become increasingly janky over the last few months).
Just updated my s7 edge on at&t with no problems
Yes it worked on my
My s7 is updating as I type this
Sons s7 Edge is downloading
My S7(Verizon) is Downloading the Oreo update now. started about an hour ago.
Out of curiosity. What CARRIER phone was first to receive oreo? I’m not talking about the verizon pixel phones. It seems like this year was the slowest that I remember.
Good question! I’d guess something like the V30 may have been one of the first carrier phones to receive Oreo, but I could be way off, but that’s what I thought I remember hearing about. The updates for Oreo have been extra slow to roll out compared to Nougat.
Mine is updating now…
This is still the same build that they listed before they pulled it on Friday, right? WTF was the point of pulling it on Friday only to release it today using the same damn build? Great logic. ????
Finally !
I have just received the Oreo update for Samsung S7 Verizon, I am downloading the update as I type.
Got it! Downloading now. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/425918143ed9d8ec45998dd911fe1b95eb3800eaf0aa7f1d8d2224ecb71d6641.jpg
Verizon version 8.0 downloading now
It’s happening!
It happened, whole thing for me took just over a half hour. I’m still using Nova, so nothing looks all that different other then the always-on screen learned a few new tricks and picture-in-picture in YouTube.
Downloading now.
My phone is unlocked but it says Verizon on the back, the firmware does have an U instead of a V. Who is going to send out oreo to my phone?
Anyone have the status for the international verizon S7 variant (930u)?
I have the G935U, we have to wait for samsung though to release it
I hope they release it soon ????????
I will flash the Verizon firmware if it takes too long
My S7 is a Verizon brand but with a tracfone sim. I wasn’t getting the update with the tracfone sim but as soon as I popped in an old verizon sim, voila! There it was. You may want to try that.
Is your firmware now G930V
Giovanni i cannot wait for Samsung so im going to flash 930v on my 930v S7 (it has 930u right now) haha
Wish me luck
I think you should flash because verizon adds device maintenance, same as the international version
I will see what happens, good luck ????
Is your phone broken now? I hope it didn’t damage when you flashed it if you did
Everything went well, I’m actually enjoying the new launcher and lock screen 🙂
Battery drain is worse though 🙁
Hi, what files did you flash to the phone to get the update?
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930V/
I recommend you flash 7.0 then upgrade to 8.0 via Verizon because that’s what I did
I’m not sure about what would happen if you flash 8.0
Yes
Downloading the update now.
It’s downloading now for me
just got it!
The ATT models did get it…
The fact it still only has the April patch and not May is a little weird, as were in June. Also my s9+ got the May patch recently and Verizon works a month behind on security. Plus I think V was trying to be the first and since ATT beat them to it, so I hope they don’t rush things and put out a buggy update.
So far as of 11AM EST still the same splash screen saying I’ll be one of the first to get it.
Note: As of 11:30AM EST my Verizon S7 Edge has found and started downloading the update.
It’s there and it’s good, at least on my device
