On Friday, Verizon announced that their “unlimited” plan line-up would now include three separate “unlimited” plans. The newest, which is a $95 plan called Above Unlimited, is now available as a part of the trio.
Why three plans? Because Verizon’s unlimited, like all other carrier unlimited plans, isn’t actually unlimited. Instead, we have three tiered data plans with all sorts of limits that simply have looser limits the more you pay. But if you want more fast data and hotspot tethering, this new Above Unlimited option is the one for you, while Go and Beyond unlimited are there with less faster things.
Plan pricing with Verizon is setup so that you receive a discount as you add more lines. So even though Above Unlimited starts at $95 for a single line, it drops to $90 per line if you have two lines, $70 per line with three lines, and $60 per line with four lines. The same per line discounts are there for Beyond and Go Unlimited plans.
Interested? You can see each plan and its features below, as well as the single line pricing.
Keep in mind that a part of Verizon’s announcement last week focused on another change to multi-line accounts. Going forward, you get to mix and match the unlimited plans that Verizon offers. If you have a multi-line account, you could have someone on Above Unlimited, two on Beyond, and another on Go. And yes, you get the per line discount for each depending on the number of lines.

I am still paying $150.00 for 1 phone all these years of service. Had to open a new account the old exist. My children are on. And now 2 bills. And they can’t get it straight. The bill in paper state one thing and when you call the bill is more. And to pay by check all these years i have done it $7:00. Paid years insurance and could not use it because someone back in and made a bill 1,200. Which in was never notify. And I had to open a new account after having insurance ojine broke. Now I have to paid agreement and pay for phone again. Unacceptable. I not letting go I will go to public utility board and to the president of Verizon. What a shame. All the knew program and Mr. Marshall from corporate could not have help me with My budget. Done with Verizon my family are 7 brother and sister and spouse each 2 children and the 1 grandchild. All with Verizon. Finally we are all closing our accounts.
Omg on phone for hour the mentally abuse me as a loyal customer since wireless started took advantage of me and I still had to pay the Marshall said deal and ask for senior I have to live in Florida’s still I am heartbroken of the treatment . The Verizon store in Harrison mentally abuse us and we when through hell.
111$ increase on my 7 lines and that’s 2 lines being downgraded to go unlimited aka throttled 24/7.
So I finally bit the bullet and moved over from the UDP from 2006 to the Beyond and ended up saving 7-8 dollars a month after we just calculated it over the phone. I was probably being throttled before now I know I’ll be fine as long as I don’t go over 22gb which I average around 10 a month. Hope I don’t regret anything.
You can save even more with the February UDP from 2017.
Not that big of a deal, it’s all about the $ that Verizon is making. I was going to switch however when I was told that international plan would only cover me for 5 days and later I would need to pay $10/day I was not very happy. I would save $50 over 5 day period but pay $50 more monthly more on my bill overall.
Just made the switch from the OG Unlimted (Nationwide TLK&TXT Share 700) to 2 Above lines (me and wife @$70 each) & 1 Go line (12yo daughter @50 each). We’ve been using LTE a lot lately due to intermittent connection issues at home (Centurylink). For some reason we went WAY over minutes in April (1,101/700) causing our bill to be $425 instead of the usual $200. I had a blip to $258 this month as I switched from my corporate discount to my veteran’s discount since I knew the corp discount would not be in effect after the switch. New estimated monthly payment (next billing cycle will be $220 – $175 for the lines after discount, $45 in add-on and tax), but I never have to worry about going over minutes again, get 20GB of 4G Hotspot (which I have not had in years), and I don’t have to pay extra during the occasion trip to Canada. Not the perfect deal, but I think it will work for my family, especially when I add a 4th line for my son and only goes up about $10.
Not sure why my comment never posted …
I went to sign up for the $55.00 gounlimited plan. Majority of my work I’m in the woods. I need unlimited. This was a amazing deal for me. However, I went to have it set up,,i’m account owner, and was told I would have to have a sub-account
This was the only way to get any of the unlimited plans. I could not keep all my lines together without paying just about double. Pick a plan for each line, is what’s advertised. Guess that’s only available to certain people and not me. Now I have to see what’s all offered with other companies. I’ve been with Verizon for a long time now, back when Alltel was in it’s own. =/
Straight talk $55 a month no bs
I’m a pro wrestler and travel the country. Straight talk, Cricket, and Metro PCS have spotty areas. I live in Detroit, was in LA a month ago, and I’m going to NYC next week. And lemme tell you, when you’re in the middle of nowhere in Indiana with nothing around you but cows, you NEED Verizon’s coverage. Worth the money for my situation.
So get on the Straight talk Verizon network plan and off the Sprint one. Simple. It comes with four different sim cards- Sprint, Verizon, ATT and T-Mobile. Use the Verizon one…
It can’t be truly “unlimited”. Especially if its from Verizon.
No carrier is truly “unlimited”. They all do the same thing. Don’t even bring up that snake oil salesman John Legere and T-Mobile. They’re the worst when it comes to deception and lies.
I agree 100%. My sprint “unlimited” plan throttles at i think 20 gb. I only mentioned Verizon because that’s who this article is about.
I switched day one as I use 30 to 75gb a month without even trying. Plus we go to Mexico and Canada a lot so it’s a good fit for us.
Funny my plan is 100 a month currently. I used 167 gigs of the data last month. It’s Kinda easy for over the road truck driver. My total bill is about 240 a month for all my lines and iPhone X and my iPad 12.9 Apple Pro 512g SSD. That I bought through Verizon.
How does Above Unlimited compare to those of us still on the old grandfathered unlimited plan?
I feel it’s faster since I switched, except when past my 22 gb limit AND in a congested area. However, on the grandfathered they throttled me so it was slow. If they de-prioritize you it’s worse than throttling. Throttling means slow speed, de-prioritizing means almost no data until you go to a less congested area. I also save over 50% since switching. It was worth cutting back a little, and I may bump it up for $10 to the new plan.
YMMV. I’ve been on congested towers before with minimal impact, and I have Go Unlimited. Depends on how bad the congestion is.
For example, if a tower can handle 500 people at once and 600 people try to connect, it’ll be slower until that’s cleared. If 1000 people try the same tower, the slowdown will be worse.
So do you think it would be better for me to finally let go of my grandfathered plan? I generally use under 50gb of data…and as of late have been running out of my measly 450 minute allowance on calls. And my speeds are really not what they used to be. I am concerned with losing my corporate discount, though. I don’t know if that would be the case.
Yes yes everyone wants unlimited data from a MOBILE company with ZERO restrictions. The only one I can think of is called In Your Dreams Corp but you can only get it if you live in Fantasyland. Because only someone with the mind of child thinks mobile data works like magic and runs on rainbows and unicorn farts.Grown ups understand until 5G rolls out in a few years mobile data has REAL limitations and realizes the plans today are FAR better than the 2 GB for $100 we were paying just few short years ago.
I guess you didn’t own a phone during the time they were forcing people into getting unlimited data plans when they purchased smartphones…
Those f*ckers limited us to 3g back then!
When I picked up my original unlimited plan, 4G was just barely getting rolled out and my Droid X2 only had a 3G modem. I jumped on the Galaxy S3 pre-order so I could keep my old unlimited plan and get the discounted S3 with the 4G modem.
I hope I’m not the only one that remembers the very short window that you had to grab the S3 without them forcing you to drop your unlimited plan.
I was just joking. You know what else was a joke? The HTC Thunderbolt. That was the phone I rushed to get in an attempt to keep my unlimited plan.
I’m glad that coverage and bandwidth are the hot commodities of the mobile space. we’re finally getting to where data is now like voice and text, unlimited. I’m fortunate that I have fiber at home and great wireless at work (same with wife at her work and daughter at her school). so we only use like 12GB of data a month and download a bunch of youtube/netflix/movies on our phones before going out and about.
Shut the * up! I enjoy using my data on the road and I get to use GBs upon GBs.. you effing troll!
so do you @droid-life recommend switching from a single line Grandfather Unlimited Data plan (from 2009) to this new AboveUnlimited plan?
It depends on your needs. How can anyone know YOUR needs other than you?
It depends if you use more than 22 or 75 GB a month. I switched last year and try to lower my usage a bit (22 GB limit). I only have issues if I’m in crowded areas and have surpassed the 22 GB limit. I rarely have issues, and it seems faster than when I had the grandfathered plan. I’m also saving over 50% (family plan, not single line). I was really worried, but I’d do it again knowing what I do now.
I am also grandfathered in, whats the streaming quality on this? I dont do much streaming, but this was never a specification back then
I’m considering dropping mine in favor of the new plan, despite living somewhere that the only home ISP option is quite slow (1Mbps) and Verizon’s coverage here is considerably faster. I don’t think I’d do well if I had any sort of cap to worry about, but the 75GB limit seems like enough breathing room for me.
You lose your 15% discount (military, certain businesses) switching to these.
Military still gets a discount.
$15 rather than 15%
Yes. But if you’re doing above unlimited and you have a military discount it’s the same thing as 15% . above unlimited is $100 if you’re not doing auto pay.
Military Discount on all unlimited plan is a flat $15 dollars off.
It’s 15% on the February unlimited from 2017.
I’m just saying that because I work for the company and you only get a flat -$15 off.
No.
Yes.
Incorrect.
I just signed up. I’ve been waiting for a plan like this for years. I routinely use 50 gb of data a month. Not interested in being throttled.
Only limited by congestion now
I signed up as soon as it was available. It’s the perfect plan for me, because I’m a power user.
Me too, everyone hates Verizon. I don’t, very happy with their service. I average 60gb’s a month, so this plan works well for me for 10.00 more a month!
in Europe what you get for $95 is fiber optic broadband + cable tv + landline + 1 or even 2 mobile plans with +20gb per month
In Europe the population density is much higher. Also, it would only be 71 brp.
man… stop defending how insanely expensive it’s in the US
It’s not defending if Europe is so great and cheap MOVE. You do get the in other countries the government greatly regulates these industries. that’s not happening here. Also you know in the UK if you want to watch porn you have to ask your ISP to unblock it. And I’m sure you get put on some government list when you do.
Bet the “asking ISP to unblock services or websites” happens here now that NN is gone and our POTUS has a vendetta against all things fun.
Okay, I’ll play. Quit defending Europe’s high prices and slow speeds. Better can be had in Tokyo.
How much for a gallon of gas? ????
cars are way more frugal in Europe, so at the end of the day it’s the same cost
doubt it. Gas is about $2.50 a gallon where i live and my car gets about 35 MPG
the average European car gets about 50-55 MPG…
hmm

Great logic
“Part of that is that Imperial gallons are different than US gallons. 1 US gallon = .83 Imperial gallons. 45 US MPG = 54 Imp MPG. Or, 65 Imp MPG = 54 US MPG.”
Good for you. How’s them VAT taxes?
cheap when you get public health care at no cost
American logic stands for the moment. I don’t live there, so I don’t care. Good for you, bub.
Guess that is why their coverage is not even half of USA! Plus-send me a link with proof or STFU
Verizon Unlimited — Creating unlimited number of unlimited plans .
Edit: creating unlimited number of *limited* unlimited plans.
lol pretty much
You’re free to not use Verizon. Maybe Verizon and all the other carriers should go a back to 2 GB for $100. Maybe a little less entitlement attitude. I’e never seen so many grown people’s panties get tied up in knots over semantics. It’s a fricken data plan, you know the terms of the plan. Get it or don’t, use Verizon or don’t. Move on and live life. Or continue to whine on the internet which will accomplish nothing.
Exactly! I get that Verizon is a bad company, but they look like idiots when they bash everything Verizon does just because they are Verizon. This is actually a good thing. The 22gb plan covers a majority of people, and for only $10 more this plan will now cover 99.99% of people. This plan is surprising, I would’ve expected this new data cap to nearly double the cost.
I was very skeptical, and held onto my grandfathered plan for a long time. I gave it up, and made some small adjustments to save over 50% a month. Now for just over 50% a month 5 can go back to not caring about how much data I use. I was worried about the video throttling, but haven’t noticed it yet, and no one can answer me on exactly what, and how it’s throttled.
Video is throttled at the route appliance owned by Verizon as it will discriminate video type data packets. It will limit their transfer to certain low bandwidth steps, IT DOES NOT ACTUALLY REFORMAT OR DEGRADES THE VIDEO ITSELF< Only limit the transfer rate of the video. For example, if a 4K video needs 18MB connection to display the encoded content as intended, then Verizon only gives you 8MB, obviously the video sampling will have to be lowered and if you were watching the video on a 72" 4k TV, you would definitely see the difference, but on a phone, you may even not notice it. I was kinda hoping for Verizon to up the video to 1440 for the new plan, but oh well.
Thanks, but I’m still wondering which videos they throttle. I mainly only use YouTube and a little Netflix and have no issue.
Wow…get over yourself, it was a joke. Get your panties untied, stop whining on the internet accomplishing nothing and enjoy life.
Dude, do you own stock in VZ? You do realize that they make 10+ billions of dollars profit each quarter. They could easily lower prices slightly and still continue their dominance.
But why would they when people continue to buy their services.
It is OK… I will keep both my grandfathered unlimited and my sense of entitlement.
Are you kidding me?!? Naibas is dead on! These are not true ‘unlimited’ at all. You don’t get it, obviously, but he makes excellent points. Unlimited should BE ‘unlimited’!
