The Moto Z Play DROID from Verizon is the latest phone to grab an update to Android Oreo. The update was given the green light last night and is rolling out to owners now.
The Z Play Oreo update arrives as software version ODN27.76-12-30-2 and weighs in at around 1.1GB. It’s a big one, which makes sense as a big Android version update.
The update, like all other Oreo updates, gives users picture-in-picture, native autofill for passwords, smarter text selection, adaptive icons, background restrictions on apps, notification channels and dots, notification snoozing, and much more. For the full list, hit up that link below.
To check for the update, head into Settings>System update.

Cheers Jon!
I want to get back to 7.1.1
This is crap, my motor play quit working completely due to this. Verizon refused to try to fix it Since I did not have insurance they made me buy a new phone even though the z was not paid off. Seams like they timed it perfect!
Got mine in new Jersey 2 weeks ago . Don’t know why others are getting it now
Moto Z2 Play????
I tweeted you guys this a while back the day it went live.
I wonder if it still has spyware ,(app flash)
Easy to disable.
I had it on my phone it still ran disabled . Had to pm uninstall the application. I’m not the only one playstore comments also confirmed still running after disabled. It’s principal spyware that is hard to fully disable shouldn’t be this hard.
I don’t miss this phone if I kept it I would have been pissed waiting till July to get it. Glad I sold it months ago.
Installed Oreo today on my OG Z Play on Verizon.
Oh and P.S. Verizon does not count this on your monthly bill when you download it on Mobile Data
Yes they do….that’s why you always should turn on wifi when download a big patch
Well they didn’t on mine and I can prove it
Meanwhile all pixel phones have been beta testing Android p for months
Meanwhile all Pixel phones cost double or triple the price…
Meanwhile the essential phone is cheaper than the pixel and launched about the same price as the Moto zplay and is getting same day updates as the pixel. Oreo 8.1 monthly updates and android p.
I sold my Moto play in May due to no Oreo update.
Meanwhile Essential has only one phone to update. Motorola has 9 phones to upgrade the Android version + security patches and a hell lot of other phones to update security patches only. Compare them to Samsung, LG, Huawei, Xiaomi and see that Motorola did way better than the competition.
Sure , actually Nokia is doing better than the compitition… Well the one phone on essential is literally getting updates and Nokia because of project treble. I can load a pixel 2 system.img on my essential phone and it would load. Literally if Moto is such a contender why not do project treble on the new ones it would make updating so much easier. Seems like Moto and samsung are using updates or slow updates to encourage buying new phones instead of just supporting old ones. The Moto g5 plus is yet to see Oreo it’s on Android 7.0 and hasn’t had a security patch for months but according to you that’s hitting it out of the park and doing a good job.
Nokia also has less phones to take care of. My Moto G5 Plus is on May security patch and that is pretty decent, also Moto G4 Plus getting Oreo. What 200€ phone from 2016 is getting official Oreo? None.
Remember when Moto had only 2 – 3 devices to take care of? They were getting updates faster than the Nexus devices.
Motorola has been good with system updates. Also, people don’t want to be lab rats all the time with fast and buggy updates. I had a Nexus 5 and most new updates would break stuff.
Releasing new phones to not support old phones isn’t anything to brag about. I had the moto g5 plus e4, e4 plus and moto z play last year. And I was a long time Moto fan boy. But when promises are not kept and delayed for long amounts of time it’s not good. Moto g5 plus was released last year. And yet to even see a current update. Having security patches months old isn’t good either. The g4 plus was a mistake and ended up supporting it to the next release. But they still haven’t updated it.
Project treble is the difference here. You don’t have to rebuild the whole Android os. So Moto not jumping on project treble is stupid and costing Moto a lot of resources. Just because Nokia doesn’t have as many devices isn’t the issue it’s that they are using resources properly. While Moto isn’t.
Project Treble is only available in devices that come with Android Oreo from the start. Who tf buys a 120€ Moto E4 or super budget devices and expects software updates? E4 runs good on Nougat, it would run slower on Oreo but itbkeeps getting software updates or terifericas
Also Moto Z Play got Nougat way before the premium flagship Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Isn’t that admirable? Half the price and faster updates. What do you need?
G5 Plus is getting Android 8.1 (skypping 8.0) so the small wait is worth it. I repeat, no other manufacturer does this. Also you will have the Moto functions wich Nokia and Pixel lack.
Wrong again. Project treble didn’t come with phones launched with Oreo. Essential phone launched with what Android system?
You’re just a fan boy that doesn’t have any logic.
If a company has more sales and more profit what does it matter how many phones they have they would have more money to support old phones. So size and amount of phones doesn’t make sense.
Also I was testing phones and buying them for different android versions. Also gave them to friends that needed a phone sometimes people are generous and helps people
I don’t think it’s fair that they won’t upgrade the Moto e4 to oreo!
Since Moto is a bigger company than essential and Nokia. Wouldn’t that mean they have more resources to create more updates. If they have more phones then they have more sales then they have more people to support these phones. Umd and essential is ma and pop size compared to Lenovo
Huawei has a phone on project treble. Xiaomi already has 8.1 on phones like crazy. Samsung even released updates to older phones before Moto. They all have skins over the UI. But Moto is slow because of why skins?
And meanwhile, all Pixel phones get every new update first because they are vanilla Android. You don’t buy non-Pixel phones or non-Android One phones for fast updates.
Udates are really overrated anyway don’t you think ?
In a way, yes. I use Nova Launcher on my Moto Z Force and can make it look like it’s running Android 8.1. I can also enable gestures. I know it’s not the same as Android P beta builds, but it’s something. I agree… Updates are a little overrated 🙂
Security patches are underrated. That’s why we need fast updates
Amazing.
Amazing.
