Tim

Stumbling upon Droid Life randomly after purchasing a Motorola DROID in late 2009, then setting out to learn everything he could about Android, Tim quickly became an integral part of the site's comment section. After quite some time of strictly commenting on Droid Life, Tim was offered an opportunity to write feature stories for the site, such as custom ROM overviews, as well as interviews with Android community members. Following success of those, Tim became a full time writer and editor for Droid Life, now spending his time on news articles, device reviews, producing videos, and much more. Tim currently resides in Portland, OR with his longtime girlfriend and two wonderful dog children (Loki & Thor). In his spare time, Tim enjoys playing guitar, drinking coffee, practicing photography, and destroying kids on Call of Duty.

  • Nope…Wear OS is still a joke…only the Samsung watches are worth buying at all IMO. If I was an ???? fan (which I’m not, hate ????) the ???? watch is actually pretty damn good (aside from crappy battery life); I know a number of people with them and wife had one for a while, they’re a solid option if you can deal with iOS.

  • I’m so discouraged by Google’s WearOS progress that I’m inclined to go the way of the N7 Guy. Problem is, I’m still very much a Google Pixel (4XL) guy. Can’t seem to move to the dark side. But…seriously considering on jumping ship with the not-so-stellar news thus far about the Pixel 5. Sorry to go on a tangent there.

  • Still way too pricey. I moved on to Apple Watches and haven’t looked back.

  • The OG 360 was the only wear OS watch that ever sparked my interest. sorry but this is too much to invest for a device that may not have any reliable support.

  • How did I not know that there was a 360 v3? WTH? How much of an improvement was it on the v2?

    • I have found the new Moto 360 to be a timely replacement to the 2nd gen Moto 360. The new moto 360 is very responsive, comfortable to wear, and gets me over two days of battery life with moderate use and no wifi.

    • Check the name of the OEM before buying though, just gives one oodles of confidence.

      • To be fair, I loved my v2 way more than my current Galaxy Watch. The ‘ecosystem’ change sucks.

  • Eh, honestly, no Wear watch is worth more than $200 (and this is coming from someone who currently owns 4 Wear devices of various generations.)

Moto 360 2 (with battery I just replaced)
Misfit Vapor (recently RMA’d and replaced for faulty battery)
    Fossil Sport
    Fossil Gen 5 Carlyle

The last of those remains the best Wear device on the market to this day and I only spent $199.44 on it directly from Fossil, 7 months ago. There’s not much reason to even consider this at $269.

    • Thanks for this. I’ve been considering the Fossil Gen 5, although I haven’t convinced myself to pull the trigger. Too much of an automatic watch guy, I suppose.

      • It cannot be overstated how much 1gb of memory helps Wear devices. Having the Fossil Sport and the Gen 5 side by side is no contest even though they run the same SoC and are otherwise the same. The Gen 5 is so much more responsive.

      • I also have a gen 5 fossil, but the Garrett variety. Just keep looking for good deals. I got mine in April for $159 from Amazon. Yes, the 1gb of RAM helps a lot.
