Pixel 4a is Super Official From Google at $349, Pixel 4a 5G is $499

At long last, the Google Pixel 4a is a phone that we no longer need to speculate about. Google announced its new “a” line phone today and it does indeed drop in at $349. In addition to that news, they confirmed the Pixel 4a 5G and its $499 price.

Pixel 4a 5G is coming soon

The other bit of news is a confirmation of a Pixel 4a 5G is real and coming soon at $499. Google would only tell us that bit about the price, that it’s coming this fall, and should join a Pixel 5. It is one of the two devices below.

Kellen

It’s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but that’s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • A definite improvement. I would still like to see a bigger battery. I know the chip is lower power, but if this had 4000mAh I would be sold.

  • With the 4a 5G coming in at $499, how much do you think the Pixel5 would be?
    My guess would be $699.

  • Seems good for the price tag. Certainly nothing special, but a good value phone, especially if you like a nice camera and fast updates.

    • The 4a 5G and the 5 will share the same CPU; a slightly better one than the 4a. There may well be other differences as well – they have not been as well leaked as the 4a.

      • Well if 20% is “slightly” I guess. The 4a 5G is larger than the 4a, If you notice the camera square and the 4a 5G and the 5 is larger than the 4a which means multiple cameras vs just 1 on the 4a. The 5 will have a more premium build. I can only assume the 5 could have more RAM and more storage

    • The 4a 5G is larger and has a SD 765 which is 20% more powerful than a SD 730 for starters and more cameras

  • I just pre-ordered. This thing has been sitting in a warehouse for months so I don’t understand why it can’t just ship immediately? The only reason I can come up with is: It’s Google, they fk up at least one major thing with every single one of their hardware releases.

  • Nice! Need to decide on this or the A71 Global. Good Job Google on the specs and pricing.

      • Faster storage…(This would be one of the biggest points in its favor for me, were I even slightly tempted to buy it.)

  • Funny how the cheapest pixel is the nicest looking pixel they’ve created. Finally got the small bezes.

    • I see 200 at the lowest, but that will probably be when the carriers are shoving the 4a 5G down everyone’s throat with promos. I’m assuming T-mobile didn’t pick this phone up to avoid confusion as to whether or not the phone they sell supports 5G

      • Through carriers it’s always wild. But Unlocked I’m guessing $279 at the lowest. Probably$299

  • Did they really leave you guys off of the review unit list? Or are you taking your time with the review like you normally do? (Which I like)

      • It’s not like you guys have been doing this for 10+ years and have a loyal following and regularly talk about Google’s phones and other products… That’s dumb of Google.

        • Yeah that’s what I don’t get, but it’s also not surprising from this awful industry and this regular type of bullsh*t that we can’t control.

Update: Apologies for my whining, I just still get sick of this stuff 10 years in. We may have a unit soon…maybe. Hopefully. I’d love to be able to share our thoughts on this phone.

        • I mean, it’s a $350 phone that comes out in 3 weeks, and we’d then need to test for another 1-2 weeks. So a review of a phone 5 weeks after everyone else has done it all in writing and video is probably not worth the effort. I’d love to use the 4a and tell you guys about it. But honestly, by the time I can do that, you may as well have learned it all from someone else.

UPDATE: Hey, we may get one some time soon. You’ll all know if that happens.

          • Sucks to hear that because if anyone deserves to have and review this phone in the mobile tech game, it’s most definitely you guys! Eye’ll let you guys know how it is when mine arrives in almost fall lol

          • 1,000 times this ▲. If it had been available to ship today I would actually have bought one. Not shipping until the 20th? Please. No thanks. It’ll be a month from the 4a5G and 5 coming out, ffs.

Google is getting really good at disappointing me lately.
