Apart from the big Wear OS 3 news that Google and Samsung announced a couple of days ago, the two have teamed up to announce new Android features that will launch first with the new Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 devices. From Duo to Messages, Samsung’s new high-end devices are getting some cool new tricks that we hope don’t stay exclusive for long.
The first feature to play with once you get a Galaxy S22 will be previews of YouTube videos that you send through Google Messages. When you or someone else sends a YouTube link within a Messages conversation, you’ll get a preview of the video and can even tap to play it without leaving Messages. Love that.
Speaking of YouTube, Google Duo is getting new sharing powers that allow you to watch videos together, share ideas and images through Samsung Notes and Gallery, and search Google Maps at the same time as other participants. Again, love that.
Google is also adding powerful Voice Access controls, for those with disabilities who need to control their phones by voice. By saying “Hey Google, Voice Access,” a user will then be able to tap, scroll, and browse a device with voice commands. You can see this in action below in Google Maps.
And finally, Google is excited to see Samsung launch Material You styling with Android 12 on the Galaxy S22, so you get the custom color experience from a wallpaper, just like you would on a Pixel phone. Of course, this isn’t new to Samsung phones, but it’ll be a front-and-center selling point for the new S22.
Look for these new features on the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8, and hopefully, we seem them on others before long.

Oh wow Duo still exists?
Are there any alternatives to Duo? No
whats the point in getting pixel phones anymore if we dont get the features and updates first. it all comes to $$$ half of the pixel only features dont even work. i dont want to go to an s22 but its going to much better than the pixel 6 pro even if i dont like the one ui. i just feel like pixel owners get screwed every time
what features didn’t it get? You talking about duo and messages? Those are apps on the play store. Looks like google just allowed samsung first crack at an update that’ll be coming to every android device soon.
They should just merge already lol
What should merge?
Kind of makes me wonder why I continue buying Pixels. Samsung is getting updates faster. And now they’re getting new features first. What’s next?
I still really dislike the Samsung software, but you’re not wrong, seems that Google knows that Samsung is the most important part of Android, even ahead of Pixels.
I’m with you in not liking the software. However, My last interaction with it was the S9 and I am hearing a lot of people saying they love One UI now.
It’s certainly better than it has ever been, but I have been using AOSP or Google software basically since Day 1, the OG Droid ran basically bare Android, then I had the Galaxy Nexus which was bare android, then an LG G2 which I generally ran CyanogenMod on, the OnePlus one which was CyanogenMod and then Nexus 6P, Pixel 2XL, Pixel 4XL and Pixel 6 Pro, I am very used to Google’s software and love it. Also, the camera in the Pixel 6 Pro is just amazing.
I’ve had the s8, s9, s10, now s21… the ui improves every single update
I had this exact thought upon reading the headline. At least the Pixel is significantly cheaper, but as we see, that is for a reason.
Samsung doesn’t usually get updates faster. For monthly updates Google releases on the first Monday of the month. If that happens to be late (like the 7th) then current flagship Samsung phones (S21 as of right now) MIGHT get an update before the Pixels but that’s rare. After a little while Samsung moves to quarterly security updates. For lower end Samsung phones like the FE and A series phones the “monthly” security updates are very slow.
For major OS updates it’s like 3 months for current model flagships and like 5 months for even one model year old.
Just as an example my dad has an unlock S20 FE. It just got the December updte and still doesn’t have Android 12. My Pixel 5, also one model year old, has had Android 12 since October and just got the February update.
