Tim

Stumbling upon Droid Life randomly after purchasing a Motorola DROID in late 2009, then setting out to learn everything he could about Android, Tim quickly became an integral part of the site's comment section. After quite some time of strictly commenting on Droid Life, Tim was offered an opportunity to write feature stories for the site, such as custom ROM overviews, as well as interviews with Android community members. Following success of those, Tim became a full time writer and editor for Droid Life, now spending his time on news articles, device reviews, producing videos, and much more. Tim currently resides in Portland, OR with his longtime girlfriend and two wonderful dog children (Loki & Thor). In his spare time, Tim enjoys playing guitar, drinking coffee, practicing photography, and destroying kids on Call of Duty.

  • I bought one pretty much brand new off ebay a little less than a year ago and I’ll use this until the battery turns to crap. It’s easily the best phone I’ve every owned, and by purchasing it years after it’s release,I saved over 60% of the original cost, while still having a perfectly functional phone for today’s tech standards.

The only thing missing from this phone is an IR blaster, which I haven’t used since the IR remote app that I was using updated and turned into complete ransomware,so that’s not a big deal. The only other thing I wish it had was an in screen fingerprint scanner, because I actually don’t like the scanner on the back of the phone.

Other than that,no front camera punch hole, headphone jack and headphones included, still a great display even by today’s standards, decent enough battery, improved S-Pen from the Note 8,what’s not to love about this phone?!

  • Still going strong with my Note 9. Battery capacity is definitely down but still usable. Seriously considering the s22+ as a replacement though.

  • The absolute best phone of its time. This phone had no and I mean NO compromises back then.

  • Can’t believe I’ve been using this phone for over 3 years now (by far my longest I have kept a phone).

He probably knows what’s coming though since I used it to ordered my 22 Ultra.

I’m really going to miss the real fingerprint scanner.

  • Note 9 was such a beast at the time. Loved the ocean blue & yellow too! Glad to see it still getting some kind of support.
