You may be wondering where the August update is for your Google Pixel phone, since yesterday was the first Monday of the month and related security bulletins were posted. For reasons not yet clear, Google didn’t take the additional step of also releasing factory image or OTA files for all of the still-supported Pixel phones, nor did they push an over-the-air-update. That’s unusual.
We’ve reached to Google to see if we can get some answers, but for now, this is what we know about the August Google Pixel update.
Yesterday, Google posted the August security bulletins for both Pixel phones and the Android platform on time, as they always do. They even posted a special Android 13 bulletin to talk about Android 13’s potential September launch and the default level of security patch it will have. But again, they didn’t give us August files or push an update to phones, plus their usual Pixel community post that would detail such an update never arrived. Something is up.
I know that no one follows your boy on Twitter, but I pointed out yesterday that things seemed off. The oddest part of yesterday was in the afternoon, when Verizon updated its support pages for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, suggesting they were getting an update, just not an August update. Instead, Verizon believes the Pixel 6 line will see another July patch with a slightly updated build of SQ3A.220705.003.A3. The previous July build was SQ3A.220705.003.A1.
I should also point out that Verizon didn’t update any of its other Pixel phone pages as if the Pixel 6 line is the only pair of phones getting this small update.

That’s not something we typically see and we’d love an explanation for why Verizon believes that, as well as why no update arrived yesterday. It could be nothing major and that Google will drop files on us today or it could also be that Google is skipping August’s patch in preparation for Android 13’s release.
We’ll keep you updated as we learn more or if we hear back from Google.
- UPDATE: Google has now posted two new Pixel 6 July builds, including the ones that Verizon first revealed. We have builds of SQ3A.220705.003.A3 (Verizon) and SQ3A.220705.004.A1 (Softbank) for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. No other Pixel phones received new July updates.

Just got S3A.22705.oo4 on My pixel 6 pro ATT pushed, still on July 5 ?? any idea what it is.
Kind weird with the radio silence.
I believe the small VZ update is to add Ultra Wideband. I’m seeing it for the first time ever this morning and speeds are blazing. That’s one of the biggest issues I’ve been having lately is that even with good 5G signal, connectivity and speeds would be horrible. So this is definitely looking like a good update.
Pixel 6 Pro (unlocked) on Verizon – Just checked for update – getting a small one at 1.4mb
Mine keeps freezing when installing the update.
Updated on the fourth try. Haven’t noticed anything different
I’d rather they delayed the security patch that post a buggy version, but I wish Google was more transparent about what they are doing.
crazy that my s22 ultra got the august update before the pixel.
man how things have changed.
Of Android 12
Unlocked Pixel 6 Pro on Verizon getting a 1.4 MB update. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/11c89f509a794fb202eada9ec099e1551c4d2a638dd4887454849a4e7181b64f.png
P6P on Verizon – downloading OTA update now.
This is unacceptable.
Google is having some leadership and management problems. Their CEO even addressed the employees last week telling them they need to work more efficiently and harder. A buddy told me that at Google HQ they started curtailing some of the extra activities to keep the employees focused on working on their assignments. I think Google finally realized they need adult supervision and consequences for their employees taking advantage of such a behemoth company. We have all seen the last year how Google has been dropping the ball on things and not being 100% like they were 5-10 years ago. No surprise they dropped the ball on the updates yesterday
I don’t know if I’d call it taking advantage of Google as much as it might be they’re not used to running on such a tight and public schedule. Most of Google is always hush hush, but with the fairly recent dedication to pushing quality hardware to the mainstream coupled with the ongoing development of Fuscia and Android as well as Carbon, they’re definitely in the public eye more.
This!
Many tech companies are doing that right now. It’s not really a Google specific thing.
Well Kellen, with your shameless plug of no one following you on Twitter, congrats you just got 1 more follower.
Normally when Google omits a patch it’s because they release the next major version of Android, but everyone seems to think 13 is coming in September so ????????♂️
I completely agree. Wouldn’t be surprised if we get that 13 build before September. Could be the least week of August if it’s going to have the September security patch as was noted in the bulletin
Maybe that’s why A13 beta was pushed to 6A devices just to fix last minute of bugs, but who knows to be honest.
Pixel 6 patches have been late at least 2 or 3 times before.
I’m talking historically before the Pixel 6. Also in months past when the Pixel 6 updates were late, the older Pixels still got theirs
Maybe we’re going to see an earlier Android 13 release than expected. Having a September security patch level doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not releasing it until September.
*Looks down at Pixel 6 Pro, sees that everything is still working just fine. Shrugs.*
Guess we’ll see what happens…
It’s hilarious that two people got offended by your message.
I know. You’d think I kicked their dog or something.
Well I know why one of them downvoted you. SMH. The pettiness just screams teenage girl.
LOL. My teenage girls were offended by that comment!!!!
LOL! It definitely wasn’t meant to offend them. It was meant to call out Duffman for downvoting holdthiscats’ comment solely because he doesn’t like him as opposed to actually disagreeing with his particular comment.
He only doesn’t like me because I called him out during one of his notorious “I know everything” moments. Sad little person.
While hilarious, still so spot on for today’s world.
Sadly. I want to cancel that behavior.
what if you’re canceled first though? you just need to preemptively cancel the cancel.
