With the launch of Logitech’s G CLOUD handheld gaming device, it got us wondering how many people are actually out there streaming games from the cloud. Many large companies are pushing these services: Google with Stadia, NVIDIA with GeForce NOW, Xbox with Game Pass, Amazon with Luna, etc. With so much money being invested, people must be using it, yeah?
Below you’ll find a poll with a few responses available. Are you someone who cloud games exclusively? Maybe just sometimes? Have you never tried it before because you’re loyal to your PC or console? If you do cloud game, what service are you using primarily?
The below results will be unlikely to give a true sense for who is using these services, as this website isn’t really dedicated to following the latest cloud gaming news. However, it’ll be nice to see what you all think of cloud gaming in general.
I had Stadia since launch and used it a fair amount during the first few months because I worked the night shift in IT and had nothing to do. Since I haven’t been in the office for over two years and never used it, I finally cancelled it.
I tried it for over a year. I had to sign up for unlimited data through my isp and it was costly. Plus, I couldn’t choose all the games I wanted. Even with the unlimited data cap I also had to increase my speeds. I still had lag and it just didn’t satisfy me. I’m sticking with gaming laptops and playstations.
No, I don’t play games through the cloud and I fail to see the benefit of it. I’d rather just play games locally on my own machine.
I play Xbox more on my tablet than my tv.
Yes! I returned to gaming after a decade hiatus because of Stadia and cloud gaming in general. Stadia is absolutely amazing.
I had tried cloud gaming using my series X controller via Bluetooth and was always left unimpressed, it looked good, but there was noticeable input lag. Then I got the Razer Kishi v1. Being directly connected made all the difference. Now I lay in bed playing games remotely from my PC (steamlink or moonlight) or my Xbox/Xbox cloud. It’s been a “game” changer.
I’ve tried it once or twice but I always feel like the experience is a letdown, unfortunately. Artificating and a slight input lag really just makes me say to myself “this isn’t for me”.
Technically since I run Sunshine on my headless Windows PC which effectively makes it a LAN version of GeForce NOW. It becomes the server and to play PC games, I connect with whichever client (Mac desktop, Shield TV, iPad). It’s not perfect but it works well enough for my needs definitely.
It’s really not even about having “excellent internet” 150 & 250 meg lines are sufficient bandwidths for cloud gaming to be viable/seamless. People with fiber/excellent internet services have had trash experiences with Stadia and X-Cloud.
What you really need is good proximity to datacenters that support your desired service.
Having gigabit service for $200 a month doesn’t guarantee you 10ms ping from your house to the nearest Microsoft datacenter that ghosts X-Cloud servers.
Only closing your distance results in best results.
Fortunately I’m in a location where XCloud, Stadia, GeForce Now, and Luna feel damn near instant and as a casual gamer, I don’t feel any need to buy hardware again. Last year in 2021 I spent total $39 for XCloud + Stadia services combined because I only paid for the months I used them. Saved a lot of money, had a great time on my phone and TV, and the services are only getting better. X-Clouds’s gaming options are a tremendous value, and while Stadia doesn’t have much to be desired, it’s actual service and technology is fantastic and superior to the other services. Better latency, better resolutions, better accessibility. I love cloud streaming.
Been cloud gaming for years now and used many services: Stadia, Shadow, Game Pass, GeForce NOW, etc. Mostly use GeForce NOW since the 3080 tier came out. Also have a Razer Blade for the odd local game not available to stream, but prefer GeForce NOW when available.
I would love to get into it but what keeps me from really diving deep into cloud gaming is trashy internet. Verizon LTE & as well as my ISP, Suddenlink Communications – now, Optimum doesn’t give me a strong enough connection to meet the required speeds. Verizon LTE is pretty much dial-up in “my area” and the ISP has 100Mb down but only 7up which isn’t nearly enough.
I would rather play games with my Steam Deck. You can at least play most games offline on it. The price point on this is the same as the base Deck model, and it can play Game Pass Streaming games with a super easy change.
Cloud gaming requires excellent internet. The only place I can trust that is at home where I have waaaay better options. If I wanna try a game on Xbox, I’ll do cloud. If it’s fun I’ll go ahead and install it to play it with waaaay less lag and better graphics. If I’m on the road, I’ll do switch over cloud. Internet is horrible in most hotels, on 5g and over public wifi.
Been using Stadia since it launched, very sporadically. I’m not an avid or competitive gamer, so Stadia is perfect for me. I imagine that’s their target demographic: Busy people that just want to spin up a game once in a while for an hour or two at a time.
Nope, I’m upset enough by input lag on some TVs, I can’t really imagine streaming would work nearly as well as playing something locally, other than Graphic Adventure games I guess where reaction time is not important.
That was my problem to. Using a USB C controller like the kishi basically erased that
