Well, did you do it? Have you pre-ordered Google’s new Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro? If you did, we don’t blame you. The Pixel 8 Pro in particular is looking like a very solid device, especially if you’d be upgrading from say a Pixel 6 Pro or even a Pixel 5. And considering you could legitimately use either the Pixel 8 or 8 Pro and have software support until 2030, it seems like a reasonable purchase.
We have full spec details and software feature overviews here, along with the key differences between the two models. Additionally, if you’re looking for where to buy one of Google’s new phones, look here.
As for me? Yup, got myself the Pixel 8 Pro in Obsidian along with a Pixel Watch 2. October 12 arrival date.
Got that * Pro in Bay with a matching LTE Pixel Watch 2 in Bay for just $49.99! Can’t wait until they arrive.
i think the sweet spot for this launch was for ppl coming from a 6pro going to an 8pro. like me.
$400 for a 2 yr old phone, a free watch or buds (i opted for the buds as i have a samsung watch 4 and i barely ever wear it)
plus i was able to use my store credit from when i bought my 6pro towards the 8pro…and got $99.90 in new store credit.
i’m a sucker and ordered the dbrand ghost case that Marques was plugging in his video. 😮
Decided to get the 8 Pro (256GB) in that beautiful Bay blue.
Nop, to expensive in Portugal. 1139€ and no watch…
I love reading all the first world problems in here.
I used to have a Pixel on Google Fi, but I shifted to a Galaxy S22 Ultra. It’s a wonderful phone, and I enjoy being able to take quick notes. But it’s annoying to deal with effects of the companies’ rivalry.
These companies need to design to the interface between their hardware and services, and EU and US competition regulators need to make them.
If they gave better trade in value for the 7 pro I would’ve.
Fi is offering $400 off the Pro, so I’m getting an 8 Pro with 256GB. I’ll be listing my 7 Pro on Swappa with a handful of cases after the new phone arrives.
I just preordered the pixel 8 pro black 1tb and got the lte version of the watch for the extra $50 . I’ve traded in my iPhone pro 256 gb.
No
i ordered the p8 pro. took advantage of the trade in offer on my p6 pro and got a free watch (that i don’t want). anyone want to buy a pixel watch 2??
How many times does Google have to release a device, only to give dramatically better pricing/discounts just a few weeks/months later before people stop buying Google devices at launch? Now I realize the incentives this year are better than most years, but I still wouldn’t buy one at launch. I assure you better deals are coming before the end of the year to those that wait.
I paid my P7 399 and I sold my P6 350
I will upgrade anyday with such low depreciation. now increasing MSRP 17% with no significant hardware change is a bit steep. I’ll watch for the offers anyway, because I already have pixel buds, and getting 200 off the watch still means paying 850 for the bundle
the price is still kinda competitive but not if Google doesn’t fix the overheating/battery life issue and doesn’t increase charging speed
8 Pro and I’m so excited despite all the online complainers about GN2, benchmarks, pro-exclusive features, etc. Who’s with me?
Install Bugless Beauty and it will be flawless!
Pre-ordered the P8Pro 512GB. My job uses VZW as it’s wireless carrier. I was able to get the phone for $329 without a trade in. They were running a limited promotion by offering a huge discount if you upgrade a line on a plan that’s equal or higher than $34.99. I just upgraded an old line no longer in use. I will remove the SIM and insert mine. Of course I cleared this with the powers that be before doing this and paid it with my credit card. I couldn’t pass up that price. Can’t wait until next week.
Hazel Pixel 8 coming my way! With some store credit I had plus trade-in from a Pixel 5 I had laying around, it’s almost free???? Hoping to hold onto the 8 till the 10 comes out, especially if that’s when Google goes HAM on the processor. I’m used to the annual upgrade schedule, so that may take some willpower!
I’m perfectly content to let the pre-orders perform beta testing as usual and then get a better deal on Black Friday
Absolutely… And If you don’t mind waiting for a bit longer, check back towards next summer and you’ll find upfront deep discounts coupled again with the original higher trade in values. It’s a waiting game.
While it will no doubt be like $100 cheaper on black Friday, as is tradition, you will not get the Pixel Watch 2 for free, which is arguably a better value up front. That said, I don’t really want a Pixel Watch 2, but I suppose you could sell it for more than $100.
This.
Unimpressive trade-in value for the P7P 512. Already have a watch and two sets of Pixel Buds. Gotta try harder Google…
Lol Google ain’t trying to get pixel 7 upgrades in the slightest. Keep your phone for more than a year!
I traded in my spare phone, a 6a (which I got for just the sales tax after trading in a 5a), for $300, get $350 back over 24 months on Google Fi, and am going to sell my 7 Pro on Swappa. With any luck my new 256 GB 8 Pro and LTE Pixel Watch 2 will have a net cost of nothing.
I’m a little disappointed that my Pixel 6 Pro (256 GB) is getting the same trade in value that I got for my Pixel 5 (128 GB) last year but I’m sick of the 6 Pro so I’m just going to bite the bullet and order the Pixel 8 Pro.
well the 7pro is only getting $20 more trade-in value than the 6pro. Ridiculous.
The 7 Pro should have at least got a minimum of $500. That’s some loyalty for someone to be upgrading after a year or less.
Blue 8 Pro ordered for me!! Rose 8 for my daughter.
I only got the P8Pro because my mom needs a phone, so I can sell her my GS22ULTRA for the trade-in value. It’s a win-win
Ordered two P8Ps. One 512, one 256. Wife and I are upgrading from P7P’s so not expecting a huge bump but we sure do love our Pixels.
Why WHY did they skip out on updating the finger sensor?! I was ready to upgrade. Now, nope.
Because it’s not needed.
I was initially not going to do it after seeing that trade ins weren’t as good as when I got my P6P. But then I realized that the trade in for it is only going to get worse. Went with the offer from Google and went with the P8P and PW2 in obsidian. I’ve got a week or two to decide if I want to keep the watch or resell it to bring the price of the P8P down a little more. The P6P has been a solid back up to my usual camera and the P8P is looking even better.
Xfinity Mobile is giving $500 off the Pro for existing users. Also giving the free watch, but the LTE version. Plus phone trade in credit which isn’t as good as from Google, but still better in total. $650 off with a Pixel 5 trade in.
Great deal for me on Fi and in much need to replace my Pixel 5 ($90 trade-in value). Ended up with a bill of $310 for a brand new Pixel 8.
Got a 7 Pro, next phone will hopefully be a foldable. Not sure if Samsung or pixel’s second fold (if not their first clamshell fold, assuming it comes along).
No.
I’ll get the P9P if they go back to the rectangular display.
Just as long as the display is flat.
I see no option for “nah dog, I’ve got a Pixel FOLD, bro!” lol
Got an 8pro in bay with a matching watch for free. Is it next week yet?
Waiting to see reviews of fingerprint sensor and face unlock. Would really like explanation of how the face unlock is now more secure than previously, and any evidence demonstrating that efforts to fool it are unsuccessful.
Voted nope because the Pixel isn’t for me.
I really hope this one is a smash hit. Though I’m not #teampixel I am #teamandroid. I’m tired of people on other tech sites still giving the Pixel sh¡t based the issues from 2 years ago.
waiting for my contact to run out in November, but by then we’ll have some reviews and maybe the first wave of weird bugs will be squashed
Yeah I mean… after the $550 trade in for my minimally damaged Pixel 7 Pro 128gb (screen scratch that has been bothering me), it is only $600 for a Pixel 8 Pro 256gb and a Pixel Watch 2? Uhh, okay…!? No brainer.
Best buy? Google is only offering 420. Best buy’s unlocked pixel’s cant be OEM unlocked like the Google store’s Pixels just as an FYI. Not everyone cares about bootloader unlocking, but just warning you.
really? did not know that. I remember years ago I got a nexus 6p unlocked from best buy and I was able to unlock the bootloader and root it.
Is this still a thing? Why would you need to root a new phone?
Root is still a thing. Maybe not as big as before but back then it was a must for root users. Made the phone even better!
“Made the phone even better” -opinion
Verizon has an $800 trade-in as well as the watch for free. The downside is the $800 is over 36 months with their debit/credit scheme.
When one is held captive for 3 years by a carrier, that is no bargain.
I agree, 3 years is a long time, but you aren’t captive. You can end it at any time, but you have to pay $800 ÷ 36 x months left, which is still a better deal than what Google is offering directly with my Pixel 6 Pro trade-in value.
Nevermind, the salesman was confused. That was for the 5G watch plus a contract for additional service. I bought direct.
The 256gb pro is very similar in price to the s23 ultra which has an extra camera, s pen and much better processor. Not to mention the trade in values for samsung are far higher. I don’t need the watch so I will wait for a sale.
Jumped in on a 256gb 8 pro. I am currently using a iPhone 15 PM. Thinking I may return it and go back to my iPhone 14 pro. Then will use that until the pixel comes and then see if I want to switch back. I’ve been debating it for awhile now. Still not sure but I figured it’s worth a shot.
Might I ask why u prefer the 14pro to the 15pro?
I ordered a 256gb Obsidian Pixel 8 Pro from Best Buy. I got $450 trade in for my 128gb Pixel 7 plus the free Pixel Watch 2.
Was going to but the trade in value of my Pixel 7 isn’t nearly as attractive as the offer when I traded in my Pixel 6 for the Pixel 7. I’m going to hold off and see if the deal gets better. I’m ready to move on as the fingerprint sensor in my 7 is terrible.
Best buy is offering $450 trade in for P7.
I solved a good number of my P6P connectivity issues earlier this year by simply getting a new sim card. Yes, the phone has it’s problems, everyone knows what they are, but it’s still good enough for me and there isn’t enough jaw dropping new stuff in the 8 for me to pull the trigger. Maybe the 9, or just ride it out until the 10.
My P6P has been great, but this is where I part with it. Getting $400 in trade-in + the PW2 free was enough to get me to bite. Some of the main things about the 8 pro for me will be the better cameras, in particular a macro mode that the 6P didn’t have, as well as a better telephoto camera. The brighter screen for outdoors will be nice for sure too along with any under-the-hood improvements from the G3, etc. Everything else is just gravy.
I don’t get Google. How they gonna give 400 trade-in for the 6P and only 420 for the 7P. Over it. Hopefully the new Honor fold comes to the USA soon and i’ll switch to them.
the trade in values for a P8:
P6/P7 $325 P6P/P7P $385
the trade in values are a hidden incentive to upgrade, not based on a actual trade in value
P3/P4 all get 200
I’m waiting for $200 off on Black Friday or holiday sales like I got on P6/P7. $500 is now my psychological limit for a phone and buying on sale means less depreciation.
Trade in for my 7pro is 420 at Google and 550 at best buy.
Only reason I did not order P8P is because my P6P still runs great. I probably won’t think about a new phone until the P10P comes out.
That looks like plop.
Wanna see battery and overheating tests first.
Anyway of getting those Google store credits?
