Kellen

It’s not often that you get to merge personal passions into a professional life, but that’s what Kellen did when he launched Droid Life in 2009. After working years of unsatisfying jobs in the medical and property management fields, he took a risk to try and create an online community while playing with the coolest gadgets on the planet each day, a risk that has turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Outside of Droid Life, Kellen is your typical Portlander who drinks way too much good beer, complains often about the Trail Blazers, and can be found out on the streets for a run, rain or shine.

  • I won't be owning one of these, nor a Samsung one again anytime soon.

i picked up a Garmin Fenix 7 pro solar and for the life of me cannot figure out how this lasts for several WEEKS on a charge (no solar) while seeming to do a much better job with everything, HR, ECG, Step/workouts, broadcasting HR etc, yet somehow Google, Samsung, Apple can't figure out how to do the same?

Something is WAY OFF with Sammy, Google, Apple watches.

    • My Apple watch has been the best I've used, however, I haven't found a watch that knows how to calculate weight lifting. The Apple watch tried, but it's clueless. It's for sure better than the Samsung I had before it. I've wanted to get a Garmin, but I've never pulled the trigger. I have a father in law who was just gifted one from his wife and he really seems to like it.

Part of the reason I didn't get a Garmin was because of the notifications and I wanted more integration with my phone. However, I discovered with my job, that I can't stand getting too many notifications, so I've disabled most of them and I'm really using my watch more of a fitness tracker. Looks like my next watch will be a Garmin!

      • You won’t regret it, I was and am AMAZED how well it “just works” and runs forever on a charge.

I finally charged mine for only the 2nd time yesterday because it was making me anxious seeing 25% one day, 22% the next, 18% the next … It would have surpassed 3 weeks had I not charged before it was actually dead.

And, coming from Samsung watches, this does everything and more (ECG with my pixel for one) that my Samsung did and it does it better.

I don’t know about the lower tier Garmin like the forerunner series rtc, but at least for the Fenix series, unbelievable battery life and I have screen brightness set to high, long timeout etc. I’m guessing if I pushed it I could easily get a month out of it.

        • Yeah, I’ve always been looking at the Fenix series. I see they also do weight training in their watch. I hope it’s better than Apple’s. I feel like no one has really figured that out and I can be a total gym rat when I want to be. At least the step counting is better than Samsung’s. I used to drive to work and having a manual transmission car, the darn thing would say I took 2500 steps on my drive in. lol

      • Im just baffled as to how Garmin can do this and Samsung, Apple, Google apparently can't.
