SHIELD TV Units Getting Hotfix Update to Squash Bugs

NVIDIA has a hotfix update available to owners of SHIELD TV, aimed at correcting issues with the 9.2 update that rolled out earlier this year.

The full list of fixes is below, but as a note to owners, it’s not yet rolling out publicly. In the meantime, owners can sign up for the HotFix build to be pushed to their device, but there is no rollback available. If you install this, you’ll remain on the HotFix branch of builds until the next public release. It’s probably best to simply wait for the update to go public, unless one of the bugs is really interfering with your usage.

Here’s the changelog.

What’s Fixed

  • Fixes night mode being skipped when DAP is ON.
  • Fixes Dolby Vision content stutters when frame match feature is enabled.
  • Fixes Match Content Audio Resolution for USB DAC
  • Adds back HQS / Maxrate option for USB audio.
  • USB TV Tuner fix with Live Channel app.
  • Fixes playback issues in Plex when using AAC 5.1 audio.

You can sign up for the HotFix build below.

  • They need to fix YouTubeTV 4K streaming codec problem. I had to buy another TV device because of that. So frustrating.

  • Amazing that this box that I bought in 2017 is still getting full support and honestly is still the best streaming box available. Good on you Nvidia.

  • I have two Shields and it's about the best money I have ever spent on tech that is normally pretty disposable.

  • Glad to see this is still getting updates. 6 years later and I'm still hoping they release a new Shield.

    • I have in collaboration with Google since they also paused a lot of their giant developments for a little bit to work with Google on how to proceed with rescoping out Google TV based on what they saw people using it for. They know they're still the most hardcore type device so there's a market for it, but if the demand isn't there to release a new one quite yet, it's better to wait a little bit as long as possible.

kind of like the Nintendo switch and switch 2, now the similar processors + the great Nvidia shield. It was the best recommendation for the past 10 years and I almost bought the refreshed in 2019, I didn't, I don't do enough on it to need hardcore stuff since I have a server on my computer and my Chrome OS Chrome TV Chromecast has actually been pretty good compared to what some people seem to struggle with

      • Honestly, I don't even use it for the "hardcore" stuff. I just love the AI Enhanced Upscaling and if they could make it even better using 6 years worth of DLSS technology, I'd be happy! In 2019, Nvidia introduced DLSS 1.0 and they're now on 4.0.

    • 6? I'm still rocking a 2015 model and it's still running great! I upgraded to the newer style triangle remote (which I am in love with).
