Video: DROID 2 Global Introduced by Motorola

The Droid 2 Global is an odd one that’s for sure.  Still unannounced by Verizon, you can buy it online now while it sits next to the lower priced original Droid 2, which by most people’s standards, isn’t all that much different.  Sure, it has global roaming, a 1.2GHz processor, “Profiles” and some additional security features, but who actually knows that other than people who read this site?   Oh and let’s not forget that the original D2 will likely see all of the software updates that are included in the Global version, so really it just has a slightly faster processor and can make calls in Germany?

I think it’s time that Verizon and Motorola start sending us their phones 2 months early so we can promote them for free.  (Genius proposition!)

Just order mine at the Verizon store. The reciept says Fedex two day shipping.

Man I was just watching the original Droid commercials and they were waaay better. Altough, this ad is definitely targeting a different market segment. Funky beat though.

where's the verizon girl with the big hands

    1. kellex

You can buy it, but they haven't actually announced it.

It's disappointing that it has the OMAP 3630 and not the 3640

    1. the worlds gonna end! oh no!!!

  6. VPN… epic win.

The one feature I really, really wish my droid had is true IPSec VPN support. My job requires doing a lot of things on a local intranet that I wish I could do from my phone, but I have to go back to my desk for because I can't get VPN to work on my phone.

Since I plan on keeping my Droid until summer, what I would REALLY like to see, is this VPN functionality ported to other devices.

Unless I can put a prepaid local sim in it and use it instead of roaming on VZ world wide its well as they say not Scottish.

what are the chances of getting an GSM unlocked D2G? Very slim…but unlocking GSM is a lot simpler than dealing with CDMA. I'm with you, unless you travel and get the prepaid country SIM, the D2G will set you back quite a few bills under the Verizon roaming plan.

Just ask the rep for the unlock code when you buy the phone…they usually give it to you

Then you can slot in any local sim

They keep saying a new-and-improved keyboard. Versus what? The D2 “Local” or something else?

    1. They are still advertising the improved keyboard. its not a whole new phone. Why would it go against itself? They are still talking about the improvement of the keyboard over the DROID.

      1. jim1969

I've been wondering about the keyboard myself. Is it improved over the D2?

        1. ONG what did i just say?

        2. i was answering him not agreeing.

I think this is just a ploy to raise more revenue over the xmas holidays while the real new phones start showing up at CES for next year. Like Kellex said in the post, this D2 is slightly better and you ca make calls internationally. Like the Blackberry World Edition phone.

Pass on this one, lets get to the good stuff, Speaking of Blackberry the Droidpro does looks like a clone of the new BB phone lol

  10. Imagine stock Android on all three of those phones at the end of the video. *Sigh*

I actually think they should have called this the droid2pro instead of the global

    1. nah.. they have a DROIDPro so it would be too similar/confusing.
