HTC Desire Rooted. Droid Incredible is Next?

The HTC Desire has been rooted.  (Yay!)  Why should any of you care?  Because it’s running essentially the same OS as the Droid Incredible which launches tomorrow to the world.  Maybe we’ll be able to knock that SenseUI off it even earlier than anticipated!

Does this news change your stance on possibly upgrading?

  2. Droid Incredible owners that have been patiently waiting for root access will finally get their wish – checkout how to root your Droid Incredible here: http://eugeneorourke.com/blog/droid-incredible-

  3. jarrodlilly

Well one reason. i'll give you one. There is an app in the app store that allows you to turn your “rooted” android device into a wireless router. So you can get internet on your laptop anywhere through your phone without a cable. You cannot achieve this without a rooted phone. To the end user the OS is no different accept you have a higher level of access to what you can do to the phone. Most of the time there is nothing you have to sacrifice from the phone or software to be rooted. Similar to Jailbreaking to get “MiWi Teather” on the iphone. May not be a good enough reason to you but others it may be important. Again just one reason.

you can guarantee these accessories will be available in the coming weeks. It's only a matter of time along with a full screen protector. Verizon always does this. new phones have tiny screen protectors and then finally they come out with the full size ones. Dunno. But accessories are always behind. But they do come.

  5. jarrodlilly

I agree. I just traded my droid for an incredible and I couldn't be happier. I miss the custom roms and root access but the widgets and over all speed surely make up for it. No FC's and so fast you don't even think about it. blows my itouch out of the water on every app they share and the moto droid can't touch this thing. Incredible is a good name for this device. I have never owned one like it. The camera is amazing too.

Off topic but can someone provide me a link on how to unroot my droid back to 2.1 (I'm going to reroot later)

  7. rjoudrey

I was in the VZW store this morning and played with the Incredible and Eris. I will first say that the phone in the store is a virgin load with few apps and other items to slow it down. The Sense UI interface is extremely fast and fluid on both of the HTC phones. I think we are seeing more of an interface difference between Moto and HTC than anything else. I am wondering if the HTC's run anything similar to JIT to improve performance or is it just good old fashion great programming?

I will be waiting for the Shadow and 2.2 before I make any decisions.

  8. palomosan

That was fast but sweet, long live the Root Crew.

One of the big reasons for me to stay with the Moto Droid are the accessories. I use the docking station and car dock religiously. I wouldn't switch unless the Incredible is rooted and comes with both of these accessories.

On a side note, when the Droid 2 comes out I would love it if the accessories would remain compatible!

I am a smartphone nut. I've tried every OS out there. I've jailbroken, rooted, and tried many other phone hacks. There are many reasons to jailbreak the iPhone, but I haven't seen a good reason to root a leading-edge Android device.

I just graduated from Droid to Droid Incredible. Why would anyone feel it necessary to root this phone? Get over it kids. Just use it, and enjoy its speedy goodness. What are you – freaking obsessed?

    1. Tom

no…. reason? SO! You don't believe in people who want the best new phone, but hate the SenseUI and want the standard Google experience, so they grab a rom? OR People that have standard Google and want Sense? Or people that just like to tinker and use an open source platform to its fullest?

There are tons of reasons to root.

Just because you don't see them, doesn't mean others don't, or if they don't apply to you, doesn't mean they don't apply to others.

      1. ricktheprick

You are one of the obsessed. But that's ok. Relax. Enjoy.

Yes, I know. Been there, done that, saw that it was really cool & worked quite nicely, didn't see the point, couldn't imagine ever using it, realized I was just putzing around, acknowledged to myself that doing these sorts of things was nothing more than an interesting hobby, also realized that I had better things to do with my time, did a whole bunch of other custom ROM playing around, saw that overclocking my Droid was the only valid reason for me to root the Droid, returned Droid to stock in preparation for 2.1 upgrade, bought Incredible, put Droid on Ebay, can't imagine any reason to root Incredible.

But that's just me. Others please, Root On.

I did order a 1750mah Seidio battery for my Incredible. That's 34.6% more capacity than the 1300mah battery that came with the phone (450/1300=34.6). It fits without changing to a different back cover. I don't know how Seidio does this, but I bought a similar extended battery for a BB Bold a couple of years ago, and it was a wonderful thing. The battery I ordered is the same one Seidio sells for the Eris, and reviewers have raved about it's effect on that phone's battery life. $49.00, in stock at Amazon.

        1. jarrodlilly

good looking out on the battery. i'm going to do the same on my incredible.
and I agree. i'm not going to root it unless I find it necessary.

Got to play with the incredible today!

  12. Eduardo

I just played with the incerdible for like 1 min haha

  13. Jason

ive had a droid since it came out and loved it…i rooted and back to stock do many times, but Sunday I was given the Incredible…at first I was a bit sceptical, but i must tell u…its a BAAAAAAD Biatch! Its super fast, all those times when you wished your droid's camera had a faster shutter speed, maybe a faster browser, faster performance all the way around maybe….well the incredible has it! Its also nice to have Flash Lite for those sites that the droid never supported….Im a hugh Motorola Droid fan, but The Incredible is the best SmartPhone in the Market!

  14. rockymtnhigh

Nah, I am glad they can root it, and make Sense go away, but I will be doing the Droid thing until November, when my year is up, and when hopefully there is a Droid 2. 😉

  15. jsmith210

    Thanks,

But I'm not too tech-savy ya know so if you or anyone could lay out the process of returning to stock after the root, it would make me feel a lot more at ease with rooting lol

  16. Ray

Check out this video of the droid running sense with flash http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgZDo9R-RmU&feat

  17. Stan Gendlin

Don't see the hardware upgrade as worth the expense, nothing short of 4G will get me to move on from the DROID. It DOES everything that I need.

  18. Amon Murray

I wonder if this means that the sense can be ported to the droid?!?!? I love sense but the zues rom is to costly to put on my phone (No 3g phone calls). Do you think this can happen kellex???

  19. Jeffrey Bernard

I think everyone who is looking to get rid of senseUI should play with this phone for a few days. I didn't care for the Eris but this Is a different animal. I am going to say it, SenseUi crushes the stock Android UI. Besides even with all the cap running I still 145mb free. Kellex get you one of these babies, you will not regret it.

    1. kellex

Hoping to mess with one tomorrow for a bit. 🙂

    2. Static_prone

my fiance is using the eris and she really enjoys it. but i have spend a few hours playing with it and i dont have anything necessarily bad to say about senseui, it is not for me. i prefer the stock os instead.

  20. Eric

This is great! I was thinking about switching but after spilling a beer on my Droid last night I have no choice. I knew it would happen but now i'm glad it will be a at lot sooner then later.

  21. chasemanhattan

I don't really care about Sense UI, that was on one of the buggy, crapola launchers that came out and I didn't think it was great, but some of the widgets that HTC boasts might be cool to port over. Wondering if that would be legal or not though…

  22. johnn

Im already running sense from the desire from the boys at zeus droid..rom is a million times better than anything else out there

  23. StephanC

Perhaps. But it's still not a droid in my opinion.

  24. Anothamexican

When first bought my Moto Droid I didnt think I was going to use the physical keyboard but I soon realized to keep from my porn going from landscape to portrait while lying down on my back I had to slide the keyboard out. Full view baby!!!!! It keeps it from switching so I dont miss none of the action. For that reason alone I gotta keep my Droid.

  25. JC_Escobar

off topic ! can someone PLEASE send me a google voice invite PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE i cant wait any longer !!! or just help me get one : )

          1. Vlad

Hey, not to sound like a pain but, do you ave anymore invites left in the tank?

          2. Cameron Summerson
          3. Daniel Stem

What the hell is Google voice and why do you need to be invited?

  26. jsmith210

Yeah I have a droid and i love it. Been thinking about rooting it for a while but i was wondering if there was a way to get it back to stock 2.1 AFTER the root….any help?

    1. joandy

As far as I know yes. You need to go to 2.01 first then update to 2.1 manually.

  27. joandy

My sister got the Droid Incredible on the mail today!!!!

  28. Angel

I thought I was good with my Doird, and then I played with an Incredible last night, Jesus Im in love!! I was missing the physical keyboard though!

  29. cylentz

    Enjoying my Droid 🙂

  30. Static_prone

This is great news for people that want the hardware but not senseui. I personally love my keyboard too much. cant do the on-screen as my only method of input.

    1. NewDroidOrder

Exactly my feelings on the matter!

    2. jayfunk13

Can someone please provide me a link that will unroot my phone back to 2.1

      1. andrew401

download rom manager from the market and select stock images then you can flash back to a non rooted stock image. not sure if it's going to be 2.1 or 2.0.1 but even if it's not you can upgrade to 2.1

  31. BHDave10

I dont really care for Sense but if we could port over some of their widgets…that would be awesome

    1. Mrpicolas

      Ain't the the truth

  32. nkhex19

This is potentially awesome news for Incredible owners who want to root if/whenever its made possible. But I am sticking with the Moto Droid.

  33. Mrpicolas

Very cool glad to see my info was postworthy lol kinda like a droidlife freelance reporter 🙂

  34. antrison

That's cool, but I'm good with my droid. 🙂

  35. Fitzhume

This is good news, mine shows up tomorrow and am looking forward to rooting asap….
