  • Kongregate Releases Android App, Includes 300+ Flash-based Games

Kongregate announced today that their Android application with its 300+ Flash-based games are ready for prime time and can be grabbed from the market immediately.  I know what you’re thinking, “Finally!  Let’s take advantage of this Flash goodness that can only be found on Android!”  And I agree, it’s about time that we get to use Flash for something other than just watching embedded YouTube videos.  This is good stuff.

This new app allows for mobile-only badges, high scores, ratings, comments, and offline play (+100!).  Yes, I just said “offline play.”  It uses your Kongregate web account and they’ll even toss int 50 points when you install the app for the first time.

Now, who’s got some game recommendations?

  • Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle Teased on Android

Tease! PopCap‘s director of editorial and social media, Jeff Green, dropped the two pictures above on the world last night via Twitter to showcase two of their upcoming games for Android.  You may have heard of a little title called Plants vs. Zombies?  What about Peggle?  Both are wildly popular on just about every platform imaginable except for our favorite, but that’s about to change.  While no firm date was mentioned during this Twitter bonanza, Green did mention that the games won’t be ad-based or free, which means they’ll come at a price.  That doesn’t bother you though, does it?

  • Game Dev Story for Android: it’s a hell of a drug

I have a number of games on my Milestone, but I don’t use it as a serious gaming device. It’s nice to have something in the case of a long commute or a quiet moment between classes, though. I’ve taken advantage of Angry Birds and it’s free license, and engage my puzzle-craving side with Frozen Bubble. However, a recent Android release, Game Dev Story, has achieved something that those other games never have: it has made me contemplate uninstalling it based on how addicting it is.   (more…)

  • Jet Car Stunts Lite Hits Market, Full Version Sees Price Drop

If you haven’t downloaded Jet Car Stunts yet because of the price, then you no longer have any excuses as a “Lite” version is now available alongside the price-reduced full version.  This game, seriously, has been even more addicting to me than Angry Birds ever was.  It does require some actual skill, is both frustrating and rewarding, but best of all, allows you to actually battle your friends on a track-by-track basis.  The Lite version contains 8 levels that aren’t seen in the full version, so even you die-hards out there should give it a go.  And for those willing to take the jump into the paid version, you should know that it can now be had for $1.92.

And after browsing through my scores, I noticed that I’m still topping all of you on almost every track.  Bring it on peeps.  Dethrone me!  My OpenFeint nick is kellex if you want to “friend” me.

  • Become Friends with Droid Life on OpenFeint and Battle it Out for Prizes!

One of the great things about OpenFeint and their abundance of games, is the social aspect provided by their Feint platform.  Almost all of their games allow for some type of score uploading or achievement unlocking, but for me, that only becomes important when you have friends to battle it out with.  As I’ve been playing Jet Car Stunts like crazy over the last few days, I’ve also been checking on my friends’ scores to see how badly I’m destroying them (hah!).  , “We should build a community of friends and use it to run gaming contests in the future!”  And that’s exactly what we’ll do!

All you have to do is friend us through your Feint profile, we’ll accept and then it’ll be time to start handing out some prizes.  As popular games are added to the market or if we just feel like popping up an old classic one day, we’ll start spurt-of-the-moment contests that could last anywhere from an hour to a full day and at the end, we’ll hand out fabulous prizes.  Sound fun?

    Our Feint name:  kellex

And feel free to drop your Feint name in the comments so you can build up a solid friends list to see where you stack up in your gaming ventures.

Also look for some new Feint features to be built into the app in the near future that will add to this fun community we are trying to build.

  • How to: Play Dungeon Defenders on the Original DROID

Dungeon Defenders, the first Unreal Engine game for Android was released yesterday, but the minimum requirements left the game essentially unplayable for those with an original Motorola Droid.  Your device needs 512MB of RAM or at least 256MB free at run-time and since the D1 only has 256MB total, this was the issue we needed to overcome.  Thankfully, the Android community is made up of amazing people and there is now a set of instructions that will get your OG on track to dominating this fantastic new game.

First step is to root your original Droid.  While I have yet to try it myself, I’ve heard that these instructions will still root FRG83D and will be trying it once my OG charges up fully.  This post will be updated with my results.

After rooting, you’ll need to head over to the Dungeon Defenders Forums and check out the rest of the details and instructions.  You’ll need a ROM with a kernel that supports “swap space” plus an app called Swapper2 and you’ll be playing in no time.

You should be warned though, that using Swapper2 overworks the hell out of your SD card and will shorten its lifespan, so proceed with caution.

    Cheers Daniel!

  • Dungeon Defenders Available on Android!

Dungeon Defenders, the first Unreal Engine game for Android, is available for purchase in the market for $2.99 (holiday sale) and according to early reports, is pretty stunning if you have a powerful enough phone.  DD is a 3D action-RPG/tower defense game that is clearly leading the way in the gaming department on mobile phones.  Our buddy Taylor, over at Android and Me took Dungeon Defenders for a quick spin this weekend and came away impressed.  For our serious gaming readers, this would be a good use of that X-mas money weighing down your wallet.   (more…)

  • Jet Car Stunts Finally Lands on Android Market

Back in September we took a trip to San Francisco to hang out with the OpenFeint team to see some of the plans they had for Android, but most importantly, what new games they were looking to release.  One of the most impressive was a little game called Jet Car Stunts.  It’s a time trial racing game, but you aren’t necessarily battling other people so much as you are battling the difficult race tracks.  You have jet fuel to help you clear large gaps, the turning is super touchy, there are jumping tricks that only the best will find, and of course you’ll love the ability to post up a new high score into Feint to let your friends know how badly you’ve just crushed them.

It seriously has been one of the games at the top of our list for months now.  $1.99 in the market.
