In a Google Maps update that was first given to beta testers, as we’ve seen it for what seems like a couple of weeks now, the blue dot that indicates your location will now also indicate your direction. Not that this needs to be broken down any further, but let’s break it down for all to understand. (more…)

Google Just Wiped Out “Google Now” From the Google App
Before you freakout at that title, understand that the idea of Google Now is very much still in the Google App, it’s just that Google doesn’t appear to want to refer to its services any longer as “Now.” Well, at least that’s what the new Google App beta is leading us to believe.
Last night, Google pushed out an update to beta testers of the Google App. For the most part, we aren’t seeing any major changes, but if you go into settings for the app, you won’t find “Google Now” mentioned anywhere. For example, “Now cards” has been switched to “Feed” and “Now on Tap” is now known simply as “Screen search.” You may recall that Google Now has been one of the most important and innovative software features that Google has ever released to mobile, so to see the brand or name of it disappear is odd, to say the least. Google Photos Gets Faster Sharing, More Creative Automated Movies
An update is rolling out today to Google Photos on all platforms, one that will make it even easier to share photos with friends and put together more creative automated movies.
In the new update, which you will see in the video above, Google has turned the sharing functionality into a people-sharer, instead of an app-sharer. That make sense? In other words, instead of tapping the share button and then choosing apps to share through, you now get to choose people to share photos with. Google says they will then “take care of the rest,” which would mean Google deciding how to share with those people, be it though a phone number, email, or something else. (more…)

Starting today, photos, videos, GIFs, polls, and quote tweets no longer count towards the 140 character limit within a tweet.

Many People are Saying That Google’s Allo is Coming This Week
With the last day of summer approaching quickly, Google’s promise to release Allo within the “Summer” is running out of hours. According to Evan Blass (and some dude on Google+), Google may just sneak it in this week, possibly on September 21, as they hangout in France’s Montélimar, a city known for Nougat. (more…)

Google is Testing an App Download Queue Feature for Google Play
According to screenshots posted online from Android Police, at least one person is seeing a new beta feature from Google Play. The feature in testing is aimed specifically at those who download apps while on the go, something many of us probably do.
Typically, you wouldn’t want to do any heavy downloading while you are mobile, as that data would count against your monthly limit. With this beta feature, you can add the app download to a queue that will automatically begin once your device is connected to WiFi. For example, if I’m out and about snapping pictures, but realize I don’t have Instagram installed, I can add it to the queue to be downloaded as soon as I return home. (more…)
