AT&T hit 400 4G LTE markets throughout America last week, and they show no signs of letting up. This morning, the nation’s second largest wireless carrier announced another group of LTE markets, spanning from cities located in California and Nevada, to Pennsylvania and Georgia. Yesterday, the internet made a bigger deal out of Verizon’s inability to activate the new Nexus 7 LTE on their network than needed to be made. The story ended with Big Red claiming that the device was in their certification process, and that they would let us all know when it cleared. Today, Verizon is doing their best to let us in on that process of certifying devices for use with their expansive 4G LTE network. AT&T announced four new 4G LTE markets this morning, still on its quest to finish out the rollout nationwide. Just recently they surpassed 400 LTE markets here in America, with no signs of them slowing down yet. If you have entered the interwebs today and are a Verizon customer who loves Android, then you likely caught wind of a story which criticizes them over their inability to (or decision not to) activate the Nexus 7 on their network. Before we go down this road, though, we should point out that the Nexus 7 with LTE works just fine on Verizon’s network – we have proven this already. The sticky point of this story is the fact that you can’t walk into a Verizon store and activate a new tablet line with the Nexus 7. But since this is the internet, and we freak out about everything, talk of C Block regulation violations and such are flying about! So what’s the deal? (more…)
Google added two new Nexus 7 LTE purchasing options to the Play store this morning, one of which includes an AT&T SIM and a deal that will land you a $100 bill credit for signing a 2-year service agreement. It certainly isn’t the 2GB of free data for a month that T-Mobile is offering without a service agreement, but it’s a deal none-the-less.
If carrier SIMs aren’t your cup of tea and you’d rather your new LTE-equipped tablet arrives by itself, they also are now listing the LTE model at the same $349 price without any sort of carrier add-ons or features.
As a reminder, the LTE model works on Verizon’s network perfectly well.
If you live internationally, you’ll be pleased to learn that the LTE model is also now available in Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, UK, Japan, and Korea.

We’re not sure if Google has run out of stock, simply removed it from inventory for unspecified reasons, or is tweaking Google Play store pages, but the new 2013 Nexus 7 with LTE is now showing as “not for sale at this time.” In the past when devices have gone out of stock, Google Play will reference the reasons, which typically involves inventory levels. This statement of “not for sale” at this time, just 7 days after the device went on sale for $349, is a bit odd.
We’ll keep an eye on its status and update this post if we learn more.
Update: It’s now showing as “out of inventory” for some. Maybe Google sold through ’em.

This morning, Sprint announced that it had turned on 34 new 4G LTE markets across the country, bringing their total to 185. It’s mostly smaller markets, but you will see Sprint LTE in spots like Oklahoma City (OK), Corpus Christi (TX), Port Arthur (TX), and Salem (OR).
While this is an improvement and good news for Sprint customers, with Verizon pushing past the 500 market mark, and AT&T eclipsing 400, you can see how far Sprint has to go to compete. Even T-Mobile is lighting them up faster than we can keep track of these days. (more…)
